Just watched The Two Popes last night. It's one of the few non-action films that I totally immersed in. The script and the two actors are on top of their forms, though I'm not Catholic. It's all about human emotions, our strengths and weaknesses. Don't know how much is "true". These two popes have totally different views of how the church should go forward.

It's one of the few must see films of the year. Surprise neither one wins, Pryce or Hopkins. Next would be 1917 since I have already seen Parasite.

Two Popes was better than I expected. I'm also about as non-religious as a person can get, so it wasn't the religious factor that made a difference to me .. but the performances + story were pretty strong.

I think I read that very little of the film is true, if that matters to anyone. I kind of assume most 'true stories' aren't exactly true ... still, it works as a film so take it for what it is.

Sequels living up to the original is pretty tough to do, although I think 22 Jump Street might have been better than the first movie.

Franchises are hard to have it that sequel talk, because in the fast series my least favorite is probably 2. I originally didn't like 3 but it grew on me, but then 4 and 5 might have been the best of the bunch to me

Is it safe to assume this is the 4th version staring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga?

I originally gave it ★★★★ [due to my own personal tragedy that Cooper reminded me of as he walked into the garage...] but with some time having passed since watching it I can make it a bit less personal and bump it up by half a star, ★★★★½.

[Edit] Changed to 4th version, thanks to Panson

very entertaining movie...it struck the right balance between cheesy and cool...some great audio- beginning and ending were demo material...the middle of the movie dragged a bit but overall I was pleasantly surprised...newcomer Mathilde Ollivier is a hottie, she has great screen presence

Quadrophenia: An enjoyable if somewhat uncomplicated movie about youth angst, with some decent performances (especially by Phil Daniels as Jimmy, the "Bleedin' Quadrophenic" Mod) and a good dose of great music by The Who.

Turner Classic Movies

31 Days of Oscar Film Festival

Annie Hall (1977)

Director: Woody Allen
Writers: Woody Allen, Marshall Brickman
Stars: Woody Allen, Diane Keaton,

At the time it came out, it was a huge hit. At that time in his career, Allen's neurotic persona was the main character of his films. His ethnic neurotic shtick was different than what everyone else was doing, and came off as fresh and funny. He brought in Diana Keaton to play her WASP neurotic persona as his love interest. Allen and Keaton had a winning formula for the 1970s Jewish neurotic plus WASP neurotic, equals successful comedy. "Annie Hall" was Allen's first deeper satire and it was successful to the extent of Oscar possibilities. Keaton won the Best Actress Academy Award as the title character and while he didn't win for his performance, Allen won for directing & co-writing the screenplay.9/10

The Devil's Advocate (1997) Cable TV Directed by Taylor Hackford ('An Officer and a Gentleman', 'White Nights', 'Ray'). Cinematography by Andrzej Bartkowiak ('The Verdict', 'Terms of Endearment', 'Falling Down', 'Speed', 'Thirteen Days'). Editing by Mark Warner ('48 Hrs.', 'Driving Miss Daisy').

Early Charlize Theron, but the main event is Al Pacino sparring with Keanu Reeves. Hot support from Tamara Tunie.

A worthwhile re-watch after many years. NYC is captured well. Budget $57M, Worldwide Gross $152M.
