The World Is Not Enough (1999) BD Directed by Michael Apted ('Coal Miner's Daughter', 'Gorky Park', 'Gorillas in the Mist'). Cinematography by Adrian Biddle ('Aliens', 'Thelma & Louise', 'Judge Dredd', 'V for Vendetta'). Editing by Jim Clark ('Charade', 'The Pumpkin Eater', 'Darling', 'Far From the Madding Crowd', 'The Day of the Locust', 'The Killing Fields', 'The Mission').

Starring Pierce Brosnan, Sophie Marceau, Robert Carlyle, Denise Richards, Robbie Coltrane.

It sucks but who cares. Opening was okay until hot air balloon. All downhill from there. Liked Robert Carlyle ('Renard') better as Johnnie Walker spokesman. Denise Richards ('Dr. Christmas Jones') has found a haven with The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Budget $135M; Worldwide Gross $361M.

Went for the Double feature as we had never really seen the first one and went for the "Final Cut" Version

Enjoyed both of these films one after the other.

Genre: Drama-Classics, Biography
Director: Dudley Nichols
Starring: Rosalind Russell, Alexander Knox, Dean Jagger, Philip Merivale, Beulah Bondi, Charles Dingle, John Litel, Fay Helm, Charles Kemper, Dorothy Peterson

This is the remarkable true story of Elizabeth Kenny (Rosalind Russell), a biographical drama about the Australian nurse who helped discover the treatment for infantile paralysis (e.g. polio) features Rosalind Russell in the title role.

Instead of applauding her treatment, however, the medical community, led by the inflexible Dr. Brack (Philip Merivale), ridicules Kenny's unorthodox practice and wields its power to stop her from using it. Undaunted, Kenny forsakes all, even romance, to continue her inspirational fight to save children's lives. Russell deservedly earned a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her performance. This film is inspirational and moving. Rosalind Russell is bigger than life in this part.

Trivia
The Wikipedia article on Elizabeth Kenny lists notable individuals who had been polio patients of Sister Kenny. Among those listed are Alan Alda, Dinah Shore and "Rosalind Russell's nephew." It is known that Rosalind Russell had campaigned long to portray Sister Kenny in film. Her nephew's treatment may have been a factor in that interest.

Unlike as portrayed at the beginning of the film, Kenny had no formal nursing education. She earned the title of "Sister" (rank equivalent of a 1st Lt.) during her service in the Australian Army Nursing Service during WWI. She used that title the rest of her life, which was controversial as in the British Commonwealth that title was reserved for senior qualified nurses (the equivalent of a Registered Nurse in the USA). 9/10

If you can check your higher brain functions for 2 hours and like extreme ( Michael Bay on roids) action movies then you will probably like it.

Under the Skin (2013)
Blu-ray -- A24 is great Arthouse Sci-Fi

Director: Jonathan Glazer
Writers: Walter Campbell, Jonathan Glazer
Stars: Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy McWilliams, Lynsey Taylor Mackay

A voluptuous woman of unknown origin (Scarlett Johansson) combs the highways in search of isolated or forsaken men, luring a succession of lost souls into an otherworldly lair. They are seduced, stripped of their humanity, and never heard from again.

I love it when something like this shows up completely blindsides you. This is one of my favorite Sci Fi films. Like "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Ex Machina,' and "Solaris," the focus of the film is not on the details of space travel and how it occurs, interstellar politics, or planetary war. Instead, this film focuses on what it is about human beings that makes us who we are, distinct from the world around us.

Sci-Fi fable . Lovely, lethal and 'Out of this world. Unique, original and 'Mindblowing . Erotic . Mind melting masterpiece . A mesmerizing performance by 'Scarlett Johansson'. Bravura effort, see it, be disturbed, be amazed.

The Daydreamer (1966)
Turner Classic Movies

Brings back memories when I was a kid. This was one of the special movies they showed on TV when we got a rare day off from school. From the award-winning team that delights youngsters annually with their 1964 classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer . One of Rankin & Bass' best-loved theatrical movies, filmed in an enchanting combination of live-action and stop-motion animation.

It is a fictional story based around Hans Christian Andersen's life and how he day dreamed his classic stories with the help of The Sandman (Cyril Ritchard), such as Chris's encounter with the little mermaid(Haley Mills) and the Evil Sea-Witch (Talluah Bankhead), His adventures with Thumbelina (Patty Duke) ,Mr. Field-Mouse (Boris Karloff) and Mr. Mole (Sessue Hayakawa), and of course the Emperor (Ed Wynn) and the two rogue tailors (Victor Borge and Terry Thomas). An All star cast comes together ! Best suited for sentimental Rudolph fans and kids who adore lengthy song-and-dance classics like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, this visual candy store runs 99 minutes. Wonderful family film!

The Ugly American, 1963. Marlon Brando played the US Ambassador in a fictitious SE Asian Country (shot in Thailand).

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056632/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_2

I found the Prime Minister Kwen Sai's line and reason were better written than Marlon whom I had a tough time comprehending (turn CC on). During the Vietnam era, we were afraid of the fallout of the Cold War and the Domino theory. Our Freedom Road meant different things to the two opposing sides, Kwen Sai (in control and better of with our support) and the Northern part (poor and oppressed). The PQ was terrible for 1080p materials but the storyline is just as current as today's world affairs.

It's a keeper.

Director: Bill Norton (as B.W.L. Norton) Writers: Stephen Karpf, Elinor Karpf Stars: Cornel Wilde, Jennifer Salt, Grayson Hal

I first saw Gargoyles on the CBS Tuesday Night Movie in 1972. This creeped me out when it aired on TV as a kid. Absolutely . Pretty trippy to see these creatures excellent make-up effects (the gargoyles look great) back then and the creature effects hold up well today. When it comes to the topic of gargoyles, the number of films having them as a central theme is highly limited. That's part of the reason why I've always had a soft spot for this film.

The story takes place in the American South where an anthropologist demon researcher and his daughter find the remains of a demonic creature called "Gargoyle" that has been mentioned since ancient times in the mythologies of many cultures as extremely violent and with timeless tendencies reborn every 600 years. They exist to "battle against man to gain dominion of the earth." The real problems begin when they discover that creatures are not only mythical but many of them are located and operating in the area.

The scenes inside the gargoyles' lair add some depth to the film. That makeup job is spectacular even today ; its just draws you in, you gotta watch Gargoyles for that alone. Although it is just a minor cult film, scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. It still gives chills.
