Dracula's Daughter extends the Universal horror myth in an interesting direction. The film begins right where Dracula left off, and ironically sees vampire slayer, Van Helsing in trouble with the law for the murder of Count Dracula, only for a mysterious woman (Holden) to turn up and take away Dracula's body for ritual consignment to a funeral pyre. Though she has inherited the vampiric urge from her father, this princess of darkness desperately seeks release from her condition through an understanding psychologist.

Gloria Holden is striking as "Dracula's Daughter". Her exotic looks and wide, hypnotic eyes make it easy to believe she is more than merely human. She has a tragic aura to her, but when she seduces a young girl to become a victim, she also seems repellent.

The film's alluring string-heavy score is moody. Beautifully shot thematically, and saturated in Gothic atmosphere of bleak hopelessness. A neglected, very good classic horror film. It deserves more recognition than it gets.

Prisoners (2013): How far would you go to protect your family? Keller Dover is facing every parent's worst nightmare. His six-year-old daughter, Anna, is missing, together with her young friend, Joy, and as minutes turn to hours, panic sets in. The only lead is a dilapidated RV that had earlier been parked on their street. Heading the investigation, Detective Loki arrests its driver, Alex Jones, but a lack of evidence forces his release. As the police pursue multiple leads and pressure mounts, knowing his child's life is at stake the frantic Dover decides he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands. But just how far will this desperate father go to protect his family?

Hugh Jackman is absolutely amazing in this movie, as he usually is in everything he does. I swear this dude can do it all.

Director: William Wyler. Stars: Myrna Loy, Fredric March, Dana Andrews, Teresa Wright, Virginia Mayo, Harold Russell, Hoagy Carmichael, Gladys George, Roman Bohnen, Steve Cochran, Cathy O'Donnell.

A memorable film about the aftermath of World War II in the United States., this film opens with the homecoming of three veterans to the same small town. The movie exposes the reality of altered lives and the inability to communicate the experience of war on the front lines or the home front.

Myrna Loy, Fredric March, and Teresa Wright

Dana Andrews and Virginia Mayo

The Best Years of Our Lives is one of the most timely and immediate Best Picture winners in Academy history. Profoundly and sensitively balances the private demons of scarred veterans and the press of public policies that leave their mark on daily life. This movie is a masterpiece. The writing, the acting, the blending of several stories without being even the least bit choppy, everything about this movie is exceptional. Seven Academy Awards. No wonder, it certainly deserved them. The all star cast Fredric March, Dana Andrews, Harold Russell, Myrna Loy , Virginia Mayo , Teresa Wright , Cathy O'Donnell . Director William Wyler's heartbreaking postwar ballad seems even more radical today than it did in its Oscar-thick heyday. It's as non-propagandist as an unemployment line. It's land mark piece of cinema ; a combination of a genuinely felt emotional narrative and a microcosm of a country recovering from war.

Directed by Roy Rowland. Starring: Edward G. Robinson, Margaret O'Brien, James Craig, Frances Gifford, Agnes Moorehead, Jackie 'Butch' Jenkins. Cinematography Robert Surtees Written by Dalton Trumbo

This was a very heart warming movie. I had never heard of this film, but I do like Margaret O'Brian and so I decided to watch it. A Norwegian farmer (Robinson) lovingly raises his daughter ( O'Brain) in rural World War II-era Benson Junction, Wisconsin.

The great Edward G. Robinson once again shows his range (was there any kind of role that man couldn't play??, as Margaret O'Brien's kind, understanding Norwegian father. Second billed behind star Edward G. Robinson is Margaret O'Brien. Margaret O'Brien, who is an absolute delight to watch. There have been some great child actresses, but not many better and more natural than her
.
Edward G. Robinson, Agnes Moorehead, and Margaret O'Brien

Agnes Moorehead also shows what a capable player she is in playing Robinson's wife and O'Brien's mother. I'm sure she was grateful for not playing an evil woman for a change.

The movie's a surprisingly engaging rumination on rural life in Wisconsin, circa 1945. Maybe that doesn't sound entertaining, but MGM's expertise in family fare manage to make the 100-minutes both charming and thoughtful. A real slice of life from a world gone by 9/10

Marianne & Leonard: Words Of Love (2019, Documentary) APV Directed by Nick Broomfield. Cinematography by Barney Broomfield. Editing by Marc Hoeferlin.

If you're a fan of Leonard Cohen, this is worthwhile. "Marianne" and "Suzanne", two of his relationships and songs are explored, the former in detail. Good restoration of old film for full screen viewing.

I don't remember watching too many Spike Lee movies but BlacKkKlansman was pretty good...very timely movie as far as social issues...the way Lee incorporated footage from the Charlottesville riots in post-production was a really powerful way to end the movie...definitely the most personal movie of Spike Lee's career and one his best

John David Washington is not as good of an actor as his father (Denzel Washington) but he was very good in this role...watched it on HBO Max

Cast:Nina Foch, Stephen Crane, Osa Massen Director:Henry Levin Writers:Griffin Jay, Charles O'Neal Producer:Wallace MacDonald Cinematographer: L. W. O'Connell Editor:Reg Browne Production Designers: Lionel Banks, George Brooks Production Company: Columbia Pictures Corp.

Cry of the Werewolf is a low-budget, black-and-white affair that clocks in with a running time of 63 minutes, making it feel more like an extended episode of an old anthology series than an actual movie. Unfortunately, it doesn't have much atmosphere or many scares but it does feature a good performance Nina Foch, who plays a mysterious woman who might hold the key for solving the mystery. (Foch later went on to a film career of some note. If you've ever watched The Ten Commandments on Easter, she played the Egyptian princess who adopted and raised Moses.)

As for the werewolf itself, perhaps in an effort to save costs all transformations are done with morphing shadows or take place off-screen; and the "monster" was played by an actual wolf. Well, except for the final fight, when a stunt-German Shepherd was brought in for the hand-to-paw combat. One should note the application of what I think is a rubber band wrapped around the wolf's upper snout, causing it to snarl involuntarily.

For the most part, this movie is for fans of old B-movies and maybe people who are curious to see a version of the werewolf legend that doesn't involve Lon Chaney, Jr.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter...
2012, 1h | 45m, Action/Horror

Quote:
While still a boy, Abraham Lincoln loses his mother to a vampire's bite. He vows revenge, but fails in the attempt, narrowly escaping with his life. He is rescued by Henry (Dominic Cooper), a charismatic vampire hunter who instructs Abe in the fine art of dispatching bloodsuckers. Abe (Benjamin Walker) continues his fight against the undead well into adulthood and his presidency, making a last stand against the ultimate vampire foe (Rufus Sewell) on the eve of the Civil War's defining battle.
Pretty interesting movie, critically it was terrible but overall it was a decent movie. Lots of unbelievable stunts and... well, you get the idea. Not a terrible movie if there's nothing else to watch.

I finally got around to watching this...Jordan Peele's previous movie (Get Up) was decent but I didn't think it was as good as the hype...his Twilight Zone reboot also didn't get a lot of praise...point being I wasn't expecting much out of this but it turned out to be an excellent movie...wasn't a gore fest type of horror movie but was very effective in setting a creepy mood...really good story...Lupita Nyong'o did an amazing job playing both versions of her character...hopefully a sequel gets made

HBO Max 1080p SDR

Black Robe

Netflix DVD rental

This is one of those two sided Full screen/Wide screen DVD's. I ALWAYS put the wrong side in first!!!

I liked this film due to the time period it takes place in. Something a bit different.

Trying to start introducing my daughter to action and action/comedy movies, so we watch the remake Jumanji and she loved it. Pretty sure the original is still too scary for her, lol
