Nah, you want a Camaro, it transforms into an Autobot when the going gets tough. Seriously though, it's interesting to see a blue Mustang instead of another black one.

Saw Captain Marvel in ATMOS. If you like the other Marvel movies you'll probably like this one. If your favorite ones are the ones to tie into the Shield mythology and you watch Agents of Shield you'll really like this one. Just like the different Marvel comics the films have variety and are based on comic books, not graphic novels. They aren't intended to be 'The Dark Knight'. Brie Larson brings a lot of heart and some serious ass kicking to the role of Captain Marvel.

I watched Indictment: The McMartin Trial. I wouldn't be in a hurry to watch it again but it's a good movie. I don't know if you can "like" a movie like this - but definitely a good movie.

I watched The Wall last night. It'd been a long long while since I watched that movie and bought it a coulee weeks ago. Still one of my favorite albums of all time and the movie was great. Strange movie... you forget how strange it is until you watch it again after a decade or so...

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993) - Rob Cohen directs. Jason Scott Lee and Lauren Holly.

Hard to separate fact from fiction. A modest hit at the box-office.

Enter the Dragon (1973) Robert Clouse directs. Bruce Lee, John Saxon and Jim Kelly.

Released posthumously. Lee had a relatively short career in TV and movies before his untimely death.

What movie did you LAST watch?

Salt- Insultingly stupid action-thriller constructed out of a screenplay full of dated Cold War nonsense that would’ve been preposterous by the time Ronald Reagan left office, redeemed considerably by slick direction from action-espionage veteran Phillip Noyce. He gives the action scenes a nice kick, and the whole thing is basically a riff on the Hitchcock “on the run” formula. Nice central performances do their best to sell a risible script. Enjoyable Hollywood junk food.

Overlord- A JJ Abrams-produced pastiche of WWII action picture and horror film, it’s not entirely effective as either, but still fun as what it is. Light on characterization, it has a deliberate genre gearshift halfway through, culminating in a festival of splatter to satisfy gorehounds. A few nice set pieces, and though the characters are mostly just swaggering archetypes, the actors seem to have fun with them. Can’t quite find the balance between elements to be a classic example of either genre, but while it’s a bit of a mess, it’s a very entertaining one.

Looks like you nailed both. It's been a while since I had seen Salt, but you got it. Overlord was fun, but nothing special. The opening sequence was pretty intense.

Mary Poppins (1964) - Directed by Robert Stevenson. Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.

After watching the sequel yesterday I decided to revisit this classic after not seeing it for decades. Streaming HD version on iTunes it looked and sounded great. The unforgettable songs by the famous Sherman Brothers were really what separates this original from the sequel. Not to take away from the sequel, which is also a delight, but this ranks as the better version in my mind. Julie Andrews has never been lovelier. Hard to believe that Van Dyke had never trained as a dancer until his role in Broadway's Bye Bye Birdie (1960-1961) and again in this movie. The film garnered 5 Oscars.

I had forgotten how prolific Stevenson was for Disney making 19 films for them and a reputation for being a bankable director.

Salt is a guilty pleasure of mine - I watch it at least once a year. Finally had a price drop on the UHD a couple months ago and I bought it. Almost took it for a spin the other day.

I watched the third installment of the Predator series. Starts good then falls off a cliff.

Triple Frontier (2019) - Directed by J. C. Chandor. Starring Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal.

Watched last night streaming. Much better than I expecting. Intense American action thriller film. All-star cast. The film seems to have a substantial budget. The title refers to where the borders of Brazil, Peru, and Colombia meet.

Quote:
A group of former Special Operations soldiers who reunite to plan a heist job of a South American crime boss.
The movie was released to theaters on March 6, 2019 then to streaming on Netflix one week later.

Only the Brave - Streamed last night. I really enjoyed this movie. I didn't now the backstory at all and had no idea what the story line was other than they were a group of forest fire fireman so I did not know what to expect. I'd had it in my watchlist for quite some time and finally watched it. This movie has some horrid reviews out there, and some good ones as well. I thought it was great.

Pats on the backs for McQueen and Brando DVD mentions. Lots of knocks against DVDs at avsforum.com, but these (now on my video runway for viewing) up-scale nicely with decent equipment. Never have to apologize for a well-produced DVD.

I was hoping for so much better to be honest. It was "OK". That's about all I can say about it though. I was really looking forward to it. Oh well, I didn't have to pay movie ticket price to see it.

My daughter in another city hated it. While watching with her husband she walked out when the donkey went over the edge. Found the characters hard to like or root for.

I agree with finding it hard to like the characters. That was probably my biggest problem. I didn't see much chemistry with a bunch of men who supposedly served together. Given there was no back story on the characters, to see how some of them changed so quickly from the time they were "contemplating" going and what they did once there......just did't fit. I've definitely seen worse, and I did watch it all to see how it ended, but wished I had my two hours back afterwards

Peppermint (2018) - Pierre Morel directs. Stars Jennifer Garner. American vigilante action thriller.

Watched streaming on iTunes last night. Consider this the female version of Death Wish. Garner has done action before in movies like Daredevil and Elektra so she has experience with physicality. Nothing really new here but I find it gratifying to watch a woman kick butt. Was generally panned by critics.
tenthplanet and Panson like this.
