Watched 2D version streaming on iTunes, was interesting to revisit after so many years. Derived from a Ray Bradbury story and screenplay. Can't say I would recommend unless you are a hard-core classic science fiction aficionado.

Was released on Blu-ray (2D/3D) in October 2016.

Drive (2011)

I love this movie.

I recently moved my speakers around to get better imaging. The beginning sequence, and most notably the helicopter circling, was awesome.

I saw John Wick 3 in theater, shot with Alexa and has great cinematography among it's other attributes. Clear a space on your disc shelf next to John Wick 2, you're going to want this one too.

Richard Carlson's rising career was interrupted by WWII service. He regained some of his early 40s stardom with King Solomon's Mines (1950), but it wasn't enough. Mostly sci-fi pics and TV followed.

Cleopatra (1963), DVD, restored for 2013 reissue. Directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz. Cinematography by Leon Shamroy ('Porgy and Bess', 'South Pacific', 'The King and I', 'The Egyptian', 'The Robe'). Music, Alex North.

A budget of $31M ($252M today) netted 4 Oscars for Cinematography, Art Direction, Costume Design, Special Effects.

This 2013 DVD greatly exceeds the 2006 DVD in clarity and color. I contemplated BD, but some critics at bluray.com complained of blue tinge and unstable disc reading.

You bet.

Not a bad beginning for director Chad Stahelski, John Wick 1 - 3. He worked as stunt double/coordinator for The Matrix Trilogy.

Cinematographer Dan Laustsen ('John Wick 2', 'The Shape of Water', 'Crimson Peak').

I think the blu-ray verison was a transfer from the 70mm film, in any case it looked great. They really had some great prime lens. Big budget epic films in the 50's and 60's were almost the last of the 70mm or Todd AO films. I guess too expensive for most films now.
Anyone have a list of past great 70mm films?

Cleopatra (1963),Todd-AO 65mm. I noticed (there may be more) two areas of film transfer distortion in the 2013 50th Anniversary DVD. 1. Among the first scenes, involving panoramic exterior shots...some judder. 2. Later on, interior shots of Roman columns...the columns bended.

The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms (1953) - Eugène Lourié directs. Paul Christian, Paula Raymond, Cecil Kellaway, Steve Brodie, Lee Van Cleef, King Donovan, James Best and Kenneth Tobey.

Watched streaming on iTunes, yet another sci-fi movie based on a short story by Ray Bradbury. The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms was the first live-action film to feature a giant monster awakened/brought about by an atomic bomb detonation, preceding Godzilla by 16 months. It was on this film that Ray Harryhausen first used a technique he created called "Dynamation" that split the background and foreground of pre-shot live action footage into two separate images into which he would animate a model or models, seemingly integrating the live-action with the models.

The Time Machine (1960) - George Pal directs. Rod Taylor, Alan Young, Yvette Mimieux, Sebastian Cabot, Tom Helmore and Whit Bissell.

A classic sci-fi film based on the H.G. Wells classic novel. I was quite taken with this film when it was first released, seeing it several times. Oscar for Best Visual Effects. The poster artwork is by the great Reynold Brown. Watched the 2014 Blu-ray which was a so-so transfer.

I have both of them and like watching both.
I'm referring to the 1st one and then the newer one.
