Same with Lawrence of Arabia. It's all about the quality of the transfer. 4K would be awesome.
Being that Lawrence of Arabia falls within Sony the odds are good they'll get to it at some point.

What movie did you LAST watch?

Society- The directorial debut of genre producer Brian Yuzna strains mightily against its limited budget and slow first two acts to deliver total surrealist chaos in its big finale. It’s decidedly a film whose ambitions exceed its resources, but given how many bigger-budget films play it safe, it’s hard begrudge it for that. It’s an intelligent piece of caustic social commentary, and if it’s reach exceeds its grasp, you have to admire Yuzna’s wild imagination and attempt at saying something.

13 Assassins- Ridiculously prolific Cult provocateur Takashi Miike’s remake of a 1960 film (To my knowledge, one never released in America) is a sort of kinetic Kurosawa homage. It’s a bit generic, particularly in its rather slow first half and the characterization is occasionally thin, but Miike has lots of fun with the extended battle sequence finale. It’s flirts with social commentary but mostly just wants gory thrills as only Miike can deliver them, and does so with lots of gusto and style.

The Martian: Extended Edition 4K (2015) - Ridley Scott directs. Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, Benedict Wong, Donald Glover and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The June 2016 4K Blu-ray version has Atmos sound - running $15 on Amazon. The Atmos sound is outstanding in the action scenes. The extended scenes help to flesh out the story a little more, not critical but interesting.

The first 300 was fine. It was over the top but very entertaining. The second one felt like all the leftovers from the first got together to make a boring story with tedious visuals and badly cut fight scenes. Eva Green was fine, but not much better than the whole movie. She was much more of a bad ass on Sin City 2.

That was never an option, but my fault that White Mischief (1987) DVD fell through the cracks. For those interested, last I saw, its PAL DVD is still available for a reasonable price.

Thank you.

I can vouch for DVDs for "Around the World in 80 Days', "South Pacific", "Cleopatra" 50th Anniversary, "My Fair Lady", and BDs for "Patton", "Lawrence of Arabia" All Regions. The latter is stunning, restored with 4K. The wait could be lengthy for 4K UHD packaging.

I'll get "Ryan's Daughter" when available in BD, and at reasonable pricing. For those interested, PAL DVD is available.

For partially shot in 65 mm, BD Blade Runner, DVD The Dark Knight, are good enough for me. I did get Murder on the Orient Express (2017) in 4K. Stunning.

Noomi Rapace , Michael Fassbender & Charlize Theronis are worth the price of admission !!! One of the best 3D titles and excellent epic horror sci-fi

Excellent pick, not many people know about this film. I think it first came out as a 'made for TV' movie.

The Dark Valley

Best western I have seen in a long while even though it takes place in Austria.

In 19th-century Austria, war erupts between a traveler (Sam Riley) and a local family after one of their members dies under mysterious circumstances. All about revenge.

20 Million Miles to Earth (1957) - Nathan H. Juran, Charles H. Schneer and Ray Harryhausen direct. William Hopper, Joan Taylor, Thomas Browne Henry and Frank Puglia.

Watched the colorized version last night, I know blasphemy! A film I've seen many times and reportedly Harryhausen's favorite. Look for him in a cameo role. The rare sci-fi movie where one feels sympathy for the creature being hunted and harrassed by humans...from birth to death. Blu-ray version was released in December 2007.

I am a sucker for a good romantic "period piece ". Pride and Prejudice (1995 TV series) is my favorite .

But I dig the romantic "period piece" Outlander (2014 - ) for its otherworldly time travel elements. Thank for the the reminder In need to order season 4 blu-ray as it just released to add to my season 1,2,3 and Binge. Great stuff.

Mail call arrived ! The Naked Spur(1953) DVD.... I wish this was on Blu-Ray

Jimmy Stewart gives one of his best performances as an anti-hero bounty hunter

In this film, James Stewart plays a taciturn frontiersman who loses his home while he's off fighting the Civil War. To raise enough money for a new grubstake, Stewart becomes a bounty hunter in Colorado territory. His first quarry is fugitive killer Robert Ryan.
Filmed in my home state Durango, CO . This 1953 film has Janet Leigh in jeans, beautiful location shooting (and Technicolor cinematography) .
In this taut revenge Western, from Oscar-nominated script by Sam Rolfe and Harold Jack Bloom, Jimmy Stewart gives one of his best performances, revealing a darker facet to his screen persona that only a superb director like Anthony Mann could bring out. I like the anti-hero aspect of James Stewart as he take on the fugitive Robert Ryan in some intense psychological warfare. Mann never failed to deliver an astonishing ending to his Westerns, but this is one of his best.

Thank you, Rob. I must confess, my wife lassoed me on the romantic genre. I poo-poo'd it at first, but it's well done in all respects, and grows on yuh some. And yuh can't watch Bond and Wick all the time. Or can yuh? Outlander Season 4 arrived the other day. Seasons 5 & 6 have been announced of course.

Jimmy Stewart's westerns, doncha love them? Good pick, The Naked Spur (1953). He did about 20 between 1936 and 1976. His Vertigo, Rear Window, It's a Wonderful Life get the most press, but it's the westerns that do it for me.

The Shootist (1976)

Die Another Day (2002) - Lee Tamahori directs. Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry, Toby Stephens, Rosamund Pike, Rick Yune, John Cleese and Judi Dench.

Watched the October 2008 Blu-ray last night, it's been awhile. Looks great upscaled to 4K, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. Berry looks fine in her swimsuit.

Last of the Brosnan Bond films. I remember Rosamund Pike and Toby Stephens making an impression when I first saw it. Stephens is the son of Dame Maggie Smith and Lord Robert Stephens. Pike's film debut, a fine actress. Will be watching her recent film A Private War soon.

The critics didn't like it but I enjoyed it.

Watched Hunter Killer last night on the projector. Man, this movie is Reference in terms of video quality / clarity / black levels. Very enjoyable to watch!
