ANИA (2019) Matinee Cinema showing

As a slick, over-the-top action picture, Anna works splendidly.

Anna is a 2019 English-language French action thriller film written, produced and directed by Luc Besson. I like every film Luc Besson has written and or directed hit or miss . Luc is great ! This an action espionage counterespionage film with plenty of misdirection propulsive energy, startling twists and breathtaking action to keep your head in the film . Anna introduces Sasha Luss as the title assassin character, with a star-studded cast including Academy Award Winner Helen Mirren, Cillian Murphy, and Luke Evans.

The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953) DVD

I was rooting for the monster....

Oh boy do I love The work of Ray Harryhausen When it comes to motion picture special effects comprised of stop-motion. A ferocious dinosaur awakened by an Arctic atomic test terrorizes the North Atlantic and, ultimately, New York City. Lovable "B" sci-fi film that overcomes its slight story with wonderful stop-motion special effects . This film is defintely a classic. I was rooting for the monster.

Behind the Candelabra (2013) BD Direction/Cinematography/Editing by Steven Soderbergh. HBO production. Budget, $23M.

An amazing "Lee" transformation by Michael Douglas. In a recent interview with Benicio del Toro (Variety), he's still p.o.'d with Steven Spielberg campaigning against this HBO film.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) - Steven Spielberg directs. Harrison Ford and Kate Capshaw.

Decided to revisit after many years hoping that it had aged gracefully with age. Alas- it remains my least favorite of the Indie movies and quite a comedown from Raiders. Although Temple was intended as a prequel to Raiders there are visual references to Raiders in the movie. Everything just seems hokie from the acting to stunts to premise, like Spielberg trying too hard to outdo himself. Nonetheless a box-office smash.

Bear (2010)

Shot entirely on location and no use of CGI. Fairly entertaining. Three people driving through a rural area en route to a family gathering. Although the story is bogged down by a personal drama subplot regarding a one night stand revelation by one of the Protagonist during a pause in the action elements of the film. Now what I mean by entertaining, is these are 3 idiots (2 of the 3 being unlikable characters) who make or have made bad decisions that result in them being stuck in a van being terrorized by a Grizzly bear. The bear has good reason for the ensuing chaos and you end up rooting for him towards the end. The ending is traumatic, but predictable. Interesting to note that there is no gore or graphic violence, which is unusual for this sub genre of Horror.
