Unstoppable (2010) - Tony Scott directs. Denzel Washington, Chris Pine, Kevin Dunn and Rosario Dawson.

Based on an actual event but ramped up Hollywood style. Crank up the sound on this film. The fifth and last Tony Scott/Denzel Washington pairing.

City of God

One of my all time favorite movies. Watched it again last night.

TOMATOMETER 91%
Average Rating: 8.33/10

AUDIENCE SCORE 97%

Fernando Meirelles' City of God is a sweeping tale of how crime affects the poor population of Rio de Janeiro. Though the narrative skips around in time, the main focus is on Cabeleira who formed a gang called the Tender Trio. He and his best friend, Bené (Phelipe Haagensen), become crime lords over the course of a decade. When Bené is killed before he can retire, Lil' Zé attempts to take out his arch enemy, Sandro Cenoura (Matheus Nachtergaele). But Sandro and a young gangster named Mane form an alliance and begin a gang war with Lil' Zé. Amateur photographer Buscape (Alexandre Rodrigues) takes pictures of the brutal crime war, making their story famous. City of God was screened at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival.

Dumbo (2019) - Tim Burton directs. Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green and Alan Arkin.

Watched first time streaming last night. I really wanted to like this movie but ratio-wise it's 90% depressing - 10% uplifting. It's definitely a Tim Burton film, there's little here for children. If you have fond memories of the Disney animated version then avoid this one because you cannot unsee it.

Yep. His feature film directorial debut in 1971.

THX 1138 was developed from Lucas's student film Electronic Labyrinth: THX 1138 4EB, which he made in 1967 while attending the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Very good, entertaining movie. The visuals in a pitch black room with an OLED and HDR were outstanding.

I watched this again last night and I liked it even more the second time through. It's a very exciting movie that has a great mix of story, suspense, action, and some comedy.

I'm trying to get my wife to watch it, but she's not so big into the super hero movies, plus the animation part makes it even more meh to her. Of course one of the next movies she wants to watch is HTTYD 3, so go figure.

Ever mess with people in a discussion on what THX is (you need multiple people on your side to make this work). Basically an audio discussion till the non- audio person mentions the film and everyone else plays dumb. Stumbled into one these once, it was fun while it lasted.

Annabelle Comes Home (2019 Cinema Showing

Very enjoyable for the Supernatural possession horror films genre fan . It was awesome .

While babysitting the daughter of Ed and Lorraine Warren, a teenager and her friend unknowingly awaken an evil spirit trapped in a doll. Writers:James Wan (story by), Gary Dauberman Director: Gary Dauberman Stars: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Mckenna Grace I will say that I love all the film in the cliched "The Conjuring" universe" . Some stand out more than others . With James Wan and company at the helm they are all enjoyable for the Supernatural possession horror films genre fan . "Annabelle Comes Home" is no exception. It doesn't try to scare you with loud noises or threaten you with the imminent certainty of seeing something disgusting. Instead, it throws a handful of characters into a simple, yet harrowing, situation and then explores that situation in depth. "Annabelle Comes Home" offers more humor in addition to the supernatural terror the Conjuring franchise is known for. It was awesome .

The film also hones in on a sense of nostalgia !

Child's Play (1988) - Tom Holland directs. Alex Vincent, Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon and Brad Dourif.

With the reboot released last week I decided to revisit the original. Nowadays it plays more like a comedy/horror. Interesting that creepy doll movies go back to The Great Gabbo (1929).
