Local Hero

Fun movie made by Scottish director. Music by Dire Straits

Local Hero is a 1983 Scottish comedy-drama film written and directed by Bill Forsyth and starring Peter Riegert, Denis Lawson, Fulton Mackay and Burt Lancaster. Produced by David Puttnam, the film is about an American oil company representative who is sent to the fictional village of Ferness on the west coast of Scotland to purchase the town and surrounding property for his company. For his work on the film, Forsyth won the 1984 BAFTA Award for Best Direction.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) 3D Blu-Ray Great 3D for post-conversion.

2D Blu-Ray :https://www.ebay.com/itm/Valerian-an...YAAOSwDCtdDUjZ

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is a visual feast . It's an enjoyable mess. Highly entertaining sci-fi extravaganza .

You don't watch The Fifth Element for its storytelling, you watch it for its joyous, ridiculous sense of place and style, and that's doubly true for Valerian -- a movie that isn't nearly as memorable, but that works just fine as a tribute.

Luc Besson, the visionary and I like all his films. And Luc has a knack for finding beautiful talented actresses . (Cara Delevingne) for example. She does a fine job portraying the character of Laureline . Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is a visual feast . It's an enjoyable mess. Highly entertaining sci-fi extravaganza .

The Mask of Zorro (1998) - Martin Campbell directs. Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Stuart Wilson, Matt Letscher and L.Q. Jones.

Still fun after all these years. Zeta-Jones has never looked lovelier and this film is considered her breakout role.

Long Shot (2019) - Jonathan Levine directs. Seth Rogen, Charlize Theron, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Andy Serkis, June Diane Raphael, Bob Odenkirk and Alexander Skarsgård.

Watched streaming on Google Play last night. A political romcom you may not have heard of, I certainly hadn't. An odd pairing of stars but they make it work somehow. This would be rental for most folks. The Blu-ray releases July 30, 2019.

The Others

Totally enjoyed it but definitely didn't expect the ending.

Grace (Nicole Kidman), the devoutly religious mother of Anne (Alakina Mann) and Nicholas (James Bentley), moves her family to the English coast during World War II. She awaits word on her missing husband while protecting her children from a rare photosensitivity disease that causes the sun to harm them. Anne claims she sees ghosts, Grace initially thinks the new servants are playing tricks but chilling events and visions make her believe something supernatural has occurred.

Escape Plan: The Extractors (2019) - John Herzfeld directs. Sylvester Stallone, Max Zhang, Dave Bautista, Devon Sawa, Jaime King, Malese Jow, Harry Shum, Jr., Russell Wong, Lydia Hull and Curtis Jackson.

A straight to DVD release and the reason is pretty obvious after watching it last night. Stallone is reportedly quite proud of this movie being made in 17 days. The Blu-ray released on July 2, 2019.

One of the first thoughts I had when I saw this movie posted here was I had to see it in color. Second thing I eventually thought about was, hey, this reminds me of a song I really like. I found a YouTube video of it and watched it today just before starting the movie.

Jamey Johnson - In Color (2008) https:// www. youtube. com/watch?v=EYGwxf1gCC4 I can't post the link directly so if you want to check out the song, copy the link and then remove the 3 spaces I had to insert #1) after https:// #2) after www. #3) after tube.

THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD (Blu-ray)

★★★★★ Because my Grandfather served in WWI and it was great hearing the thoughts of the men who were there

Quality a bit on the low side at times. Really hard to colorize images and not lose some reality, especially in hair and other areas. Still happy I watched it

[Added] I was also remembering today that our old family photo albums were all in black and white

2012 (2009) - Roland Emmerich directs. John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover and Woody Harrelson.

Another disaster popcorn movie last night. Lots of visual thrills but overloaded with melodrama as befitting Emmerich. Needed lots of trimming, too long at 158 minutes.

Agree about the melodrama, but I've got to say - one of if not my favorite disaster flick.

I mean ... Who takes an Aircraft carrier and shoves it on a tidal wave at President Danny Glover? 2012, that's who.

One of those would have been enough, but both!!??! Genius.

You get to see L.A. overwhelmed with huge earthquake rifts and that's kind of expected, but Woody Harrelson as a demented DJ broadcasting on a mountaintop as it's plastered by a huge volcano? A monk in the Himalayas has a tidal wave come over him?

Too many over the top things to cover. It also has the drop dead gorgeous Thandie Newton and Amanda Peet. Chiwetel Ejiofor and John Cusack in (to me) his best role since Better Off Dead. A cute russian dog and a huge russian aircraft.

I can't take it. If you like your disasters over the top and sappy, this is for you.

Night of the Comet (1984) Blu-ray , DVD , Free 1080p on VUDU app.

Night of the Comet is that rare movie that's effective as both a science-fiction movie and a parody of a science-fiction movie. I have always had a soft spot for 'Night of the Comet'. What really makes Night Of The Comet such a joy isn't the nostalgia rush it provides, but the two central characters. These girls just get on with it, dealing with the apocalypse with resourcefulness, crackerjack wit, and machine guns. 8/10

The Warriors

Really a good movie. Has become a cult classic. If you've seen it you know what I mean.

"A turf battle between New York City street gangs that rages from Coney Island to the Bronx. The Warriors are mistakenly fingered for the killing of a gang leader. Soon they have every gang in the city out to get revenge and they must make their way across the city to their own turf, The Warriors has since become a cult film, and it has spawned multiple spinoffs, including video games and a comic book series."

Directed by Walter Hill , Produced by Lawrence Gordon ,Screenplay by David Shaber, Walter Hill
Based on The Warriors by Sol Yuric, Music by Barry De Vorzon, Cinematography Andrew Laszlo

Pitch Black - Unrated Director's Cut (2000) - David Twohy directs. Vin Diesel, Radha Mitchell, Cole Hauser and Keith David.

19 years later still an interesting movie, almost feels like a graphic novel. In spite of critics it became a cult favorite and franchise.

19 years later still an interesting movie, almost feels like a graphic novel. In spite of critics it became a cult favorite and franchise.

Great movie! Started my admiration of Vin Diesel. His first big break was in Steven Spielberg's "Saving Private Ryan", but it's in "Pitch Black" his persona was formed. Thanks for adding this movie.

Watched "The Ghost and the Darkness" 1080P

It was good. I went into this film not know what it was about and just enjoyed it with family. It was interesting and said to be a true story. Good use of surrounds and bass. Not a lot of bass just good use of that bass.
It may be a one-timer for me.
Enjoy

We watched "First Man" in 4k & Atmos last night in honor of the 50th anniversary of landing on the Moon...

My theater is powered by Simaudio "Moon" amplifiers..lol

When the movie was over I realized that the amplifier that drives the Atmos speakers wasn't on...doh!

Still a great movie..

WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS(1956) TurnerClassicMovies app, DVD

A serial killer has been killing beautiful women in New York, and the new owner of a media company offers a high ranking job to the 1st administrator who can get the earliest scoops on the case.

Fritz Lang is such an amazing director. He is so motivated visually, perhaps that is from his work in silent films. Great screenplay, superb cinematography. The entire cast is great. Dana Andrews, George Sanders, James Craig, Thomas Mitchell, Vincent Price, Howard Duff , Rhonda Fleming , Sally Forrest ,John Drew Barrymore Jr. and the wondrous Ida Lupino. To call this lineup "powerhouse" would be understatement. Very effective score. While the City Sleeps is never dull and moves along at a great pace. Excellent film noir thriller.

Spoiler!
