Blade Runner 2049 - In Theaters 10/6/17

You don't need to refer to it as Blade Runner 2 anymore. Or the Blade Runner sequel. The official title for the 35-years-late follow-up is now...

Blade Runner 2049

Josh Z 10-07-2016 11:53 AM

Pretty lame title. I hope they change it.

KOA 10-07-2016 10:01 PM

Not going to have flying cars in three years and seems pretty unbelievable there will be flying cars in 33 years. We'll be lucky to have self driving cars that work. Wonder what it will be like in 9595? Oh wait...

Perhaps Bounty Bob will make an appearance....

I don't know. Really, anything that doesn't try to explicitly root the story in a particular year. The original Blade Runner is still being discussed and analyzed 35 years later. Do we want people 35 years from now to laugh at the sequel's title? It just sounds very "Space: 1999" to me.

Class A 10-10-2016 09:53 AM

Blade Runner still had analog TV's. :)

Yeah, but that was part of the movie's design of mixing stuff from the past with stuff from the future. The world was trapped somewhere between the 1940s and the 21st Century.

I admit that the text at the beginning of the original Blade Runner states that it takes place in 2019. But we can either ignore that bit or ret-con it away in the sequel. Actually putting a date right in the title of the movie seems like a dumb idea to me.

Scott Simonian 10-10-2016 03:04 PM

Agreed.

I'd actually be okay with it being called just Blade Runner again.

Just refer to it as Blade Runner (2017).

And I love retro-tech sci-fi. :D

Tack 10-10-2016 09:53 PM

I normally wouldn't care but I agree in this case. Blade Runner 2049 just sounds cheap and could pave the way for even more awful sequel titles. "Blade Runner 2065 - The Tannhauser Gate Chronicles"

Wait until I die at least.

:)

It's a shame she won't live - but then again, who does? One of the best lines ever imho

asarose247 10-10-2016 10:09 PM

.02 - and why not . . .

Blade Runner - Redux

straight forward enough?

edit :open ended possibilities wrt this definition: In Latin, redux (from the verb reducere, meaning "to lead back") can mean "brought back" or "bringing back."

But this isn't a remake or reboot. It's a sequel, and Harrison Ford is coming back. You want the sequel to be named the same as the original?

Scott Simonian 10-11-2016 09:53 AM

Well put. I retract my previous suggestion....in spirit. I'm too lazy to modify the post right this moment. Pretend it isn't there. ;)

"Deckard"
"Replicant"
"Tears in the Rain"
"More Human than Human"
"Accelerated Decrepitude"
"More Life"

Plenty of possible titles...

"Tears in Rain" would be the accurate quote, plus it's only three syllables. ;)

Depending on Ford's role in the film, I think Blade Runner 26354 might be better than 2049 but they probably had a reason for not going with it.

I was just thinking that. :D

Given the speech by Gaff, "It's a shame she won't live - but then again, who does", I would say "More Life" may be a better fit.

'Spaceballs the Sequel: The Quest for More Money!"....funny....

I bet the crew is delegating some folks to go to thrift stores to pick up some TUBE TV'S right now, for sure ;)

A NAME FOR THIS MOVIE? How 'bout 'Skin Job'....could bring in some weirdos though!

KOA 10-15-2016 12:01 PM

Considering Harrison Ford's recent accidents, Blade Walker might be more appropriate.

Defcon 10-15-2016 12:30 PM

What exactly is wrong with Blade Runner 2? If its really a sequel and Ford isn't in it for a bit part and the money.

Did I hear that Harrison Ford punched you in the face?

He looks surprised. “How did you hear that?”

I've got people on every corner, too.

“Yeah, he did. It was kind of, you know, a rite of passage.”

How did it happen?

“We were just doing a fight scene and, you know, it just happened. But what was funny was, when it was over, they brought ice for my face, and Harrison pushed me out of the way and stuck his fist in the ice.”

He laughs. “I asked him the other day where he got his sense of humor from—was it from his mother or his father? He said, ‘Sears.’ And he didn't have much time to shop around so he just had to grab one and get out.”

So did it hurt when he hit you?

“You know…he's tough. He's been an inspiration to everyone—everyone is doing push-ups now and taking an interest in their fitness. As soon as it happened, the director came up to me and said, ‘Look at it this way—you just got hit by Indiana Jones.’ ”

Was he suitably apologetic?

“He came by afterward with this bottle of scotch, and I thought, ‘Oh, I knew this was coming.’ And he pulled out a glass from his pocket, poured me a glass, and walked away with the rest of the bottle. So I guess he felt like he didn't connect enough to earn a whole bottle.”

He smiles. “You know, they say don't meet your heroes, but I would say the addendum to that is ‘…unless they're Harrison Ford.’ 'Cause he's a cool mother****er.”
Here's a funny on-set story from a GQ interview with Ryan Gosling.

Looks good, but it's really too bad today's market wouldn't allow a sequel with Deckard as the main character. I don't care how old Ford is, I'd watch it eyes wide opened anyway.
I'm fed up with this formula: Younger guy nobody cares about being shoved in while the iconic character gets only a few minutes of screen time...
Also, to my eyes, casting Ryan Gosling doesn't help. I can't say I've ever been impressed by him. Oh well, at least it's not as bad as Shia LaBeouf as Indy's son.

SciFiJunkie 12-20-2016 09:58 PM

"The Last Replicant"

:p

Great director, weak ass lead:mad: and Jared Leto is also in there? along with the soulless digitally shot look? my god what are they trying to do

thehun 12-23-2016 03:40 PM

"Lofaszt, nehogy mar te vagy a Blade Runner" That would be too long for a title, and our people would laugh their ass off.:D

marcuslaw 02-10-2017 06:09 AM

BR2 is rumoured to have been given a couple of different names by Ridley such as "Blade Runner Down" and "Metropolis". I'm okay, but not particularly enamoured, with "2049". If WB could have secured the rights, the titles from any one of the follow-up books, “The Edge of Human”, “Replicant Night”, or “Eye and Talon”, would have been nice.
