No Villeneuve and no Deakins (both busy with Blade Runner).

The cinematographer is Dariusz Wolski. His list of credits as cinematographer/DP is pretty impressive. The Martian, The Walk, Prometheus, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Dark City, et al.

and the director is some italian guy, Stefano Sollima.

so, it should be well shot at least.

Yeah we'll see. I was saying that since the DP is good, it should at least be pretty to look at.

I'd gauge my hype level for this movie at cautiously optimistic.

Taylor Sheridan is writing again, and deserves some benefit of the doubt given the original (and Hell or High Water) having proved out. If he has 1/2 the talent he appears to have, everyone else just needs to get out of the way and do what's on the page. This guy is going places.

Couldnt have said it better, also has one called Wind River with Jeremy Renner and Gil Birmingham coming out next year which he wrote and also is directing. You would think doing both should be a good thing, we shall see.

It supposedly delves into Benecio's character, and is primarily about him.

Saw the trailer in the theater a couple of weeks ago, saying it's bad ass what would be a starting point.

Not crazy about this new "Logan"-esque plot they inserted. Would've been good just to keep it straight with war on the cartels, but I'm going to try to stay optimistic.

Reviews are good. Denis Villenueve approves as well

Villeneuve first reacted to “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” by telling producers, “[The sequel is] a knockout. Sollima did a masterful follow up to ‘Sicario.’ I was blown away!” When asked for further comment by IndieWire, the “Blade Runner 2049” director had more praise to share about the film.

“Having seen his film, I’m proud to say that Stefano did an impressive, powerful, masterful follow-up,” Villeneuve told IndieWire. “It’s a hell of a good movie!”

If one liked the first Sicario, the second version is more than watchable. It borders on an 8 out of 10.

Finally caught this last weekend.Overall very good movie. The soundtrack is just so heavy and gnarly, I love it. I don't think it's necessarily better than the first one, it's more of a different movie in the same universe. Without the Emily Blunt character, we are watching what happens, where in the first one we feel like we're experiencing it first hand. Emily was the audience surrogate, and that isn't present here. No spoilers, but the Black Hawk helicopter is a gorgeous, scary piece of machinery. It should get a mention on the credits.

My only real gripes were two or three scenes, mostly of exposition that felt tacked on, even felt like they were filmed later or something if that makes any sense. Other than that, very enjoyable, and they left the door open for a sequel.

Rumored to be trying to get Villeneuve back for 3 but with Dune going not sure he''ll have time next few years.
