I gotta say after finally getting The Force Awakens in Atmos at Home (On Disney+) , it was all I hoped it would be. Just steady effects coming from the overhead speakers. Made me smile a lot.

The first Pacific Rim was one of the early ATMOS titles that ran in a theater, even to new titles it still shows you what ATMOS can do. The beauty of ATMOS is that in the hands of talented sound engineer it can achieve different things. IT Chapter One is great demonstration of how it can place things in the dark and have you looking into corners..in the dark. Something tells me Dr. Sleep should have a good ATMOS mix also. We'll see.

If you liked the subtle "IT" sounds in Atmos, you should try Crimson Peak in DTS:X (quiet bits with all kinds of creepy sounds coming from corner and part of the ceiling in the room at times). Fury with Brad Pitt and Overlord have crazy good Atmos sound as well. I'm waiting for the new Midway to come out with Atmos.

IT Chapter 2 in Atmos is awesome. Surround effects are almost constantly used in the movie with a few directly overhead, most high and to the sides or front or all over the place at bed level. Some effects sounded holographic here (e.g. when the clown screams near the end it sounded like a river of sound flowing through the room past me at head level like ghosts moving by or something).
