This carcass of the Terminator franchise is rotting away at the boxoffice, which I'm glad to see:

Maybe this one will crash even more in subsequent weeks, and they'll bury the corpse once and for all. One can only hope.

I saw it in a Dolby Atmos theater giant screen with Tuesday night discount. Visuals and sound were outstanding, plot was just okay. But I knew that going in. Worth the money spent.

This movie was such a disaster. Not even the AMC Dolby Theater I saw it at could save it.

The sad part is they are all old. This was Hollywoods last chance at a good reboot with Arnold, Hamilton and Cameron and they blew it with complete garbage.

Finally saw this last night in IMAX, and although I didn't find it to be so bad, I had to ask myself why they even decided to do it, if not for more than the money. As with the last three movies, this one is merely another variation on the theme. They could have stopped where they were, and that would have been okay by me. I may still get this on Blu-ray when it comes out, but I won't be in any rush to watch it again.

I read that Cameron sat in a room with 5 writers to make this movie. Really? FIVE writers and this is what you come up with?

Then there's this quote:

“We rolled up our sleeves and started to break out the story and when we got a handle on something we looked at it as a three-film arc, so there is a greater story there to be told. If we get fortunate enough to make some money with Dark Fate we know exactly where we can go with the subsequent films.”

Classic case of counting your franchise eggs before they've hatched.

And on the subject of the opening scene surprise:

Spoiler!

I'm done with James Cameron. He thinks THAT doesn't make it a retread? Of course it is, he just put a "woke" coat of paint on it.

Don't plan to see it at commercial theaters, will do 4K disc and/or Amazon stream rental just for nostalgia/scifi geek-ness- some geek types on other discussion forums thought it was OK, not a total disaster like many opinions.

Agreed re: Hamilton hasn't aged as well as other mature ladies we know, though everyone's opinion may vary- the Jaclyn Smith's, Cheryl Ladds, Rene Russo's, Lynda Carter's, Rachel Welch's, Mirren's or Steenburgens of the world.

Given the role of Conner, though, may not be a bad/out of character thing- Sarah Conner should be war torn, battle ravaged, high mileage (re: Indiana Jones remarks) etc.

Just wondering how they explain Arnold's aged presence if this film is a direct sequel to T2's timleine, where he was lowered into a vat of molten metal and presumably destroyed.

I assume the simple aswer is another T800 was sent in parallel or soon after and waited around.

Spoiler reponse OK

Why was WW schlock? The whole premise has always been a race of super-powered/Thor-like females since the creation of WW in the comics. While there are legit SJW issues in media in recent years, WW movies are a bad choice to knock re: female empowerment, which is the WHOLE POINT!?

(not really the point, just the premise/origin of the hero)

Didn't Cameron watch WW in 70's Super Friends (next to Betty Rubble, nicest 'toon brunette)

(Plus, not a new thing- 70's had Bionic Woman, toon and live action WW, Police Woman, Stefanie Powers, MTM, Laverne & Shirley, etc)

OK, I'll walk back schlock (although it's such a great word - sounds like what it means ), but after all the hype, I actually watched it one afternoon. I thought it was absolutely formulaic and pretty uninteresting. But that's fine, everything's not for everybody.

I was just taken aback a little that amidst all the slobbering backslapping in the industry over the Strong Woman aspect of the movie, Cameron got skewered for suggesting that it wasn't as Women friendly as it was being made out to be. Drop dead natural beauty in skin tight spandex with powers she didn't earn. That's not empowerment, both are just gifts, just ordinary Superhero stuff.

He pointed out that Sarah Conner and Ellen Ripley were arguably better representatives of the trope, and I think it's obviously true. They had an actual arc to their character development which both ended with them as believable, kick ass "Wonder Women" who weren't afraid to have an off day in the looks dept. There isn't a scene in Jenkin's Wonder Woman that doesn't have Gal looking ridiculously tidy. Needless to say they raked Cameron over the coals pretty hard for that, going as far to say something about him being unable to have an opinion because he is a male. What a joke.

In the theatrical version of T2 he says that the more time he spends with humans the more he learns. But I still thought his situation in this movie took it too far.

I haven't seen the movie yet but disappointed with the box office performance. I love the franchise overall. Yes last few movies were not as good as the first 2 but still. I think T2 is the movie I have watched more times than any other movie when I was a kid.

I will be watching it soon and I hope they make more of them. IMO, If Spiderman can rebooted every few years than there's definitely room for more Terminator movies.

The point has been raised elsewhere that November was a bad time to release this, and the advertising could be better. Release dates can still make and break movies, and most of the internet that denies it is just more FUD. Some people are already sitting on their money for Star Wars.

In the first movie he was programmed to kill/hunt/infiltrate humans. That is the one sent back in time for this movie. He was not sent back by John Connor to save himself. So I don't think he would just come back and decide to hang drapes!

Unlike Spiderman I don't believe movies like this can just be recast over and over. You can't recast Rocky movies or Rambo movies or Terminator movies with success.

If the movie was good it wouldn't matter when it came out. Look at the Joker Movie. This movie is just not good and alienates it core fans.

The studios would say you're wrong, Star Wars in March won't do holiday numbers. Core fans kill franchises we need new blood, new viewers. The over 25 males went to the theater but they aren't the future we need new blood. Under 25 especially women didn't go, rating the movie R locked out a chunk of potential audience. Movies that don't hit all four audience quadrants may not have a future, the films you'll get you're not going to like.

Or.... it sucked. Of course the "studios would say you're wrong". Have they ever said their product sucked and that's why it bombed? No it's the quadrants, man.

T2 could have come out in Thurseptemarchday 19something playing the 1 AM slot only, and people would have lined up.

I remember when Johnny Depp's godawful version of The Lone Ranger bombed, NO one associated with it would admit that it was a bad movie.

The Studios and your whole post are wrong.

If the movie was good it would have made a killing. Look at The Joker, it's rated R, came out October 4th and did not cater to anything your talking about.

This movie catered to exactly what you are talking about and alienated its old core and failed. So move on.
