This one will make you think, that's all I'm allowed to tell you at this point. Hopefully, a trailer will come soon, but that part is out of my hands.

There are a lot of good things that aren't in the trailer. This is closer to serious Sci-Fi so giving it a late summer release makes sense.

This looks pretty great. Hope it ends up working. Brad Pitt is 14 years older than Liv Tyler though. Seems kinda unrealistic. Lots of great actresses in that age range...

I was much more interested in this when I thought it was going to be a serious, hard sci-fi story rather than an action flick with laser blaster shootouts and moon buggy chases. Seems very strange that a director like James Gray would be hired to make this.

That's a little reassuring. However, hearing that the movie has a big scene in which Brad Pitt fights moon pirates still makes me leery that the cerebral film Gray may have originally wanted to make actually turned out that way.

I think most of my skepticism is just remembering how bad Interstellar turned out to be. Yeah, I know, different people, but that was also supposed to be the next great hope for serious science fiction, and it was basically awful.

Unfortunately, I just don't believe there's truly room anymore for another 2001 at the budget levels required to make this sort of movie today.

Why is Interstellar awful? Lets for the time being ignore the whole 'love' angle in the 3rd act. Everything else, the black hole physics, relativity, time dilation was accurate. Just saying those words in a Hollywood blockbuster, knowing how dumbed down everything in America is, is revolutionary.

It has a fantastic soundtrack and visuals and even if you found the story lacking its still better than 99.9% of films. And its definitely hard scifi (again, with caveat above).

2001 is seen with rose colored glasses, just like Alien. Those movies would never get made today, with audiences lacking any attention span and everything being spoilt months before release, and zero actual discussion about the plot of the movie.

Why is the movie awful (but you're not allowed to bring up the most awful part of it)? Aside from the most howlingly idiotic speech ever given by an alleged "scientist" in a sci-movie ever, how is it not great? That's what you're asking?

My problems with Interstellar are too numerous to catalog. Sure, the time dilation and physics stuff was done pretty well, but the actually plot of the movie was barely half thought-out and was full of blatant stupidity. It's resolved by magic time-traveling love rays from the fifth dimension, ferchrissakes. That's an actual thing that happens in a movie heavily promoted as a serious hard sci-fi story. It was one big eye-roll after another for me.
