Does the Navy even use human-piloted fighter jets for combat anymore? Isn't it all drone strikes now? Is this movie going to be two hours of Tom Cruise sitting behind a joystick watching a screen?

My guess is that Cruise will play the role of the commanding officer of Top Gun, aka Fighter Weapons School. This was Tom Skerrit's role as "Viper" in the first movie. I doubt however that Kelly McGillis will reprise her role, she looks old and overweight today, and her career pretty much imploded two decades ago.

Of course, the F-14's are gone, in favor of the F-18, perhaps even some stealthy F-35C's. The difference being, that unless they cheap out, the movie-makers could hire some real Russian pilots and planes as the opposition, versus using American-made F-5's as in the first movie. It would be interesting to see the F-18 or F-35C versus the MIG-31, SU-57, etc. Failing in that, the USA bought 21 MIG-29's from Muldova when that tiny former Soviet state went broke.

No need to. Lauren Cohan can sub in for Kelly McGillis.

In the mean time, Kelly can continue to work in Hollywood as a sub in for Sharon Gless if they decide to make a movie version of Cagney & Lacey. (warning, not so flattering image ahead) Kelly now.

I cant believe Val Kilmer wants anything to do with it!!!! (I thought he had better standards (He used to))

When you stop watching what they want you to watch you stop thinking what they want you to think.. Then you see a world that is nothing like they tell you it is.

We don't even know what the plot is. Plus, he was already in the original. It's like criticizing Edward James Olmos for appearing in Blade Runner 2049 before the story line is revealed.

He had something to do with one of the worst Batman movies of all time so anything would be higher standard than that.

I wanted to tell him I love his movie and hope he would be friends and all.....

He is all over twitter,etc.... So you think he still is but I guess not

It would be exciting for me to get an email from him

LOL. It's Harold Faltermeyer's "Top Gun Anthem," which is used in that trailer.

My meatspace pal works for Airbus and Tom Cruise dropped a chopper of theirs preparing for Mission Impossible so he may actually be in the seat of a jet here. Joseph Kosinski has three really solid movies under his belt, two with great audio and visual strength so I want to remain hopeful for a massive audio assault and a lot of cool jet sequences.

What's with all the negativity ? This is one of my most anticipated movies now! Just that one tiny hint of Top Gear theme and I was sold !!

I hate people who continuously bring up Cruise's personal beliefs as a reason not to see his work and demean them. The guy is the last real movie star, unlike most 'stars' today he gives 150% and is a great Oscar winning actor as well, most of so called other action stars today like The Rock etc arent fit to lick his shoes. Mission Impossible is the only series with consistently high quality, Edge of Tomorrow, Oblivion were instant classics and the best scifi blockbusters since Inception.

From all accounts he's a great guy to work with too as well. Meanwhile morons all over the Internet have nothing better to do than make gay jokes about the original (which says more American's moronic obsessions and hangups).

Kosinski is a great director as well, no shaky camera bs, he did Tron Legacy and Oblivion.

Like so many other belated sequels, it looks like Fan Service: The Movie. Take everything that people liked the first time and do the exact same thing, but with everyone older now. What's the point?
