The Big Lebowski (1998) / Joel & Ethan Coen

Forgive me if this thread exists. I searched and only found subjects in the disc forums.

Joel and Ethan Coen are national treasures. Few films have brought me more lasting enjoyment than this. Various scenes will inevitably pop into my head at random moments and make me smile. I can't imagine many folks here haven't seen this, but if not, get on that ASAP. Because of that, I'm not going to unpack the plot much at all. Probably the most hilarious case of mistaken identity committed to film. The cast cannot be improved upon.

You know how when you're watching a TV show or movie, and you think of what would have been a much better line? That never happened while watching this. I think that speaks to the Coen Bros. skill and attention to detail. Nothing is a happy accident. It is all the result of hard work and caring deeply about the craft, and, as a fan of the movies, I appreciate the heck out of that.

"That rug really tied the room together."

"Shut the f**k up, Donny."

"Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, uh, your opinion, man."

"You said it, man. Nobody f**ks with the Jesus."

"This is what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps!" (censored version)

"Hey, careful, man, there's a beverage here!"

"He fixes the cable?"

"You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me."

"Phone's ringin', dude."

It really is.

All of the cast is great but since we lost Philip Seymour Hoffman, his small part shines for me. I have watched this movie many times and now will have to watch it again tonight😀

How you gonna keep'em down on the ranch when they've seen Karl Hungus?

Indeed! I really wanted to post a pic of his face after Bunny says what she says to the Dude, but I couldn't find a decent image with enough pixels and a reliable link. He captured "positive but nervous energy" so well. Like his character is beyond reproach but he knows he works for some shady people and just isn't dealing with it very well.

One of the best movies of all time for sure.

Click 'You Tube' in the top bar if video fails.
