Considering the crap scifi blockbusters we've had - think Terminator Genisys, Alien Covenant, Passengers, a few of MCU and the Trek/SW reboots, I'll take Matrix any day - those movies still have a deeper script and backstory than any of the recent films. 2 and 3 are bad only in relation to 1, I'd rate them higher than any of the above films.

What I really want is more movies like The Animatrix - most people haven't seen that and it is truly fantastic.
I like all 3 and also like The Animatrix.

Right they never really go into what happened to Neo after he went super sayian LOL. I just kind of assumed he survived and just kind of wandered the matrix. But I also argue that he was not in fact "The One" I still believe it was in fact Sati, the little girl, who was actually "The One" one of the key parts of the whole mythology of "The One" was that he/she whatever was BORN inside the matrix. ALL the humans are born out in the "fields" and then inserted into the Matrix at "birth" but they are not actually born IN the Matrix. I also believe that because if you watch the very last scene with the Oracle and Sati on the bench and the sun comes up, how much more colorful the world becomes. There was sun before but everything was still kind of grey and grimy.

Good theory! I just hope they have a good scrpt thats not dumbed down for fear of appearing too complicated, which is what people complained about in Matrix 2 (esp the Architect). This is a very rich world with endless possibilities.

In that scene the Oracle also told Sati that we would see Neo again someday.

Well that's kind of the problem. Because let's be honest other than the Matrix and the Animatrix, most of their other movies have been hot garbage. PRETTY for sure, but hot garbage none the less. LOL Personally I enjoyed all 3 of the movies, but yeah they fell off after the first, and there isn't much in their history that leads me to believe they can capture lightning in a bottle again as they did with the Matrix.

I think the story in all 3 movies is no worse than the convoluted mess in any recent scifi/blockbuster, take your pick from MCU/StarWars/StarTrek. Certainly not 'hot garbage' IMO. In fact I'd say Matrix has a better plot.

The only major issues with 2/3 was the state of CGI back then. Neo looked awful in the CGI sequences and didn't even look real. Like almost cartoon-like insertion. Perhaps the Wach lady will use the modern technique that they've used in these lame Star Wars films or Scorcese's the Irishman, making the old actor look young(er). Trinity died so if this is some alternative timeline bs, I'm out. If I see one more film with alternate time line crap I'm going to cut an IG influencer.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I saw all the Matrix movies, and I think each of the sequels was better than the original. The first movie was great, the second better to an extent, and the third probably the best of them. I also liked The Animatrix, and I hope that could come to 4K one of these days.

As for the new film: If they could find a plausible way to bring Neo back, I'd be game, but they should leave Trinity to rest where she is.

Were there not previous versions of the Matrix? Unless Neo's sacrifice was meant to be once and for all, there would be other versions. I think. Does it warrant another movie? Time will tell...

Sure. The problem with that (for myself) is that the previous "saviors" all look just like Keanu Reeves...
