Noticed a couple days ago that KMTV has now started doing the weather segment of their newscast in full widescreen, instead of putting up the blue sidebars during weather. Their graphics aren't "SD-safe" -- they utilize the full 16x9 picture -- so I don't know if SD cable systems letterbox it or if people with 4x3 screens will actually just miss part of the graphics.

I'd argue they are "HD-enhanced" rather than not "SD-safe". On Qwest and I believe DirecTV, it just truncates the extra real estate, but the information on the sides is repeated elsewhere during the weathercast in the main section of the screen. (Usually, it's a 3 day snapshot of the weather, plus a wider scan of the radar.)

CBS does something similiar with their NFL ticker. In the area to the right that's cut off in SD, they show down, distance, and field position for other games.

I saw it and I liked it! That channel fits in just nicely. No different then what's on HBO or Cinemax.

Admittedly I hadn't been up to watch any movies within the Cox On Demand service for a couple months. Question - when did they remove HD on Demand with the premium channels? I have Starz and you used to be able to watch some On Demand movies in HD - can't find a listing for it anymore. Same holds true for HBO because I checked.

Did they stop doing that or move it to a different part of the guide? I pretty much checked everywhere and didn't see it. Thanks.

I was reading on another thread that people in other Cox markets are now able to get the DCX3400 DVR with a 500GB drive. Is this available in Omaha yet?

Not really a huge surprise. 13.2 is HD (as far as I know -- planning to go out that way later this year and will check in on markets such as Scottsbluff and North Platte as well) and has a bigger signal than 17 did. It's more cost-effective for NTV etc. to just use the existing signal than continue to run a duplicate signal on 17.

Maybe the money saved can be used to get HD on channel 51 in Lincoln and boost the signal to reach areas like York, Seward, Beatrice, etc.

Okay. I don't have HBO. I just looked at their on-demand section.

I know though that for a while there when I would go to the OnDemand section and look at Starz movies they had a section that said "StarzHD". I watched a few movies that way.

So, was there some fluke with my HD box, or do you think Cox had a fluke on their end, realized the mistake, and removed the HD content? Just curious.

Thanks!

I see KETV channel 7.2 (not sure what it is on Cox) now plays a full Movie every Saturday night with commercials.

Wonder if there there weather channels is not making any money as it was.

If they would combine NEWS and WEATHER and Sports kind of like News on 4, I bet more would watch.

From Omaha... you should get KPTM Fox 42 (actual channel 43) and KXVO CW 15 (actual channel 38). Any of the others are a stretch. Nearest Fox tower to you is KFXL 51 located near 30th and Superior Street in north Lincoln. However, it operates at low power, so you might actually get better reception from the Omaha station. Otherwise, ABC 8 and CBS 10 are your only true local full-power signals. Lincoln's PBS 12 is over 20 miles northeast of Lincoln and probably won't reach Seward well without a dedicated VHF antenna.

Try www.tvfool.com where you can put in your address and get a report of what's receivable at your location. My guess is your only sure channels are 8 and 10 but with a decent antenna you'll get a few more.

*Edit:
I checked TVFool myself, centered on downtown Seward, and it looks like with an indoor antenna you could get Lincoln's ABC and CBS stations and Omaha's Fox and CW stations. If the indoor antenna has a good VHF component you ought to be able to get Lincoln's PBS station as well. With a UHF attic/rooftop antenna you could add Lincoln's Fox station and the PBS station near Aurora (in opposite directions), probably Omaha's ABC and NBC stations, and maybe even Omaha's CBS station and the Hastings NBC affiliate which is actually the designated NBC station for the Lincoln/Seward market as well.

FWIW: I picked up a HD cable box from COX Omaha the other day and asked about more HD channels. The guy said right away, the next HD adds will be a HD pay tier with things like HDNet in it.

Looks like they are blacking it out when there is good stuff/soft porn on that channel during prime time. I predict that channel moves to the pay HD tier when they add that tier. I wondered what would happen when I first saw the movies they were showing (see a few posts back).
