A very minor change to KGNG 26.11. The PSIP has changed to "Talk" from "TalkRW".

Kgng-lp 47

The FCC has canceled the analog license for KGNG-LP 47. It is now DKGNG-LP.

I lobbied Larry Hunt of KGNG to keep the analog channel 47 on the air. I wanted it to host a different network favorable to those still with an analog tuner. But parts were starting to fail on the analog transmitter, and it was time to put it out to pasture.

Moxie, on KPVT 2.5, has been sporting beautiful colorbars of late. Oldie Goldie is still hiding in black on 2.6. HSN2 seems to be spending much of the week missing from KEGS 30.4.

KHDF has lit their 19.4 sub-channel. It is now home for 3ABN Kids. KHDF even has their ID appearing on the breaks.

EDIT: I should never judge a network by viewing just one program. Yes, the program I saw on 19.4 was a 3ABN Kids program, but the network is 3ABN. That's a simulcast of what we already have on K36NE 43.1. A simulcast of it makes no sense as the coverage of both stations are essentially the same. No real gain in potential viewers.

Moxie and Goldie returned for a very brief time on KPVT 2.5 and 2.6. They're gone Friday.

OnTV4U on KNBX 31.3 is presenting audio under colorbars this week.

Monday pre-noon and K36NE has their four sub-channels on 43 sitting in black. Also, Country Music Television, KLSV 50.1, has been stuck on a net graphic for several days.

I was saddened to learn yesterday of the passing of Elliott Block. Elliott owned two LPTV stations in Cincinnati prior to the repack, and maintained one after the FCC process. That station used the virtual name of WKRP In Cincinnati, but was licensed as WBCQ-LD. He posted on the Vegas AVS OTA forum on occasions, and attended numerous Las Vegas NAB Conventions in the Springtime. When in town, there wasn't a big steak and a beer safe from his consumption. Elliott gave freely of his broadcast engineering advise to those needing assistance. It could be safely stated that there are a handful of stations that wouldn't be on the air today without his expertise of assisting others. Elliott was the victim of a heart attack. I was enlightened to have met him at past NAB gatherings.

KPVM-25 Pahrump is advertising that they are now in Pahrump and Las Vegas. I have yet to find their signal around Summerlin.

I've noticed ads for a concert to air on BYU TV on December first. Vegas doesn't have a BYU affiliate. Is Sinclair adding BYU to KHSV 21.3, KSNV 3.5, or KVCW 33.6?

We're getting BYU TV ads in Phoenix as well, and like Vegas, no OTA affiliate. I believe that BYU TV is just available as KBYU-TV in the SLC TV market, and as a cable/sat channel only elsewhere.

BYU seems to be pushing very hard to attract viewers to their streaming and cable ops. Maybe it's a test of the waters to see if OTA is in their future beyond SLC.

An audio sub-channel uses very little of the whole pie of bits and bandwidth. I remember years ago reading that a digital station, if no video channels were used, could support 200 audio only sub-channels.

KSNV will fire up their channel 33 ATSC 3.0 transmitter, all 42 kw, for the duration of the January CES Convention in town. Pahrump viewers of the KSNV-3 translator are expected to encounter interference from the ATSC 3.0 feed.

Some movement for K41IO may be in the works towards restoring their service. It's been about a year since they went silent. The station will use channel 30 for their signal, and may continue to virtual display to channel 41.

I've encourage Larry Hunt of KGNG to virtual display Movies Plus 26.8 to virtual channel 47.1. The sub-channel has much of their programming already encoded with a logo bug indicating channel 47, which might be confusing some viewers. By using their former channel 47 position for the virtual display of Movies Plus, confusion should end.

Our storms on Wednesday really dampened reception, for my area, of KPVT-2. Just a pixelated mess causing my tv to switch back and forth between rf channel 27 and the virtual channel 2 positions. But throughout the day Moxie 2.5 and Oldie Goldie 2.6 were attempting to seek out viewers. Where do they go on dry days?

While waiting just before 7 am for KGNG to ignite their new 26.12, i spotted that K41IO has returned to Vegas. The Enlace service on 41.1 and EJTV music videos on 41.2 are back after a long absence. Reacting to the famous Repack of the FCC, K41IO is now known as K30PL, with their rf channel of 30 and a virtual display to 41. No ID's, other than Enlace and EJTV, have yet been seen.

The number of sub-channels in Vegas is now standing at 103. That includes two subs on KLVX-50 that have recently disappeared. The KSNV ATSC 3.0 January 2020 channel will push the total to 104. Whenever KPVM-25 Pahrump enters the Valley, the total will reach 111. But as we all know, that total includes way to many colorbar channels, blank channels, and duplicates serving no purpose.

The 26.12 sub of KGNG will encounter a slight delay (until possibly next Saturday 12/14), I'm told. It could be sports talk or UFO talk. I was expecting Tokyo Rose with the launch today on the 78th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. My guesses are getting worse by the week.

Sunday evening: Who didn't remember to program KSNV-3 and KVCW-33 this evening. Both stations are humming along without programming on all of their subs.

We're less than a month away from the national launches of The Circle and Black News Network, yet no Vegas affiliates have been signed. But hey, we've got plenty of colorbar channels, don't we? LX is scheduled for their national launch, rumored to be in April, and we did snag an affiliate for them: KBLR 39.5.

Luken Communications is changing the deck chairs on their Titanic of a company. The corporation that controls their networks is now Reach High Media. Networks include Retro, Rev'n, Action, Heartland, and others. Most of these B networks won't serve Vegas until, or if, K12XL moves from Primm to Mt Henderson.

KGNG completed their move from digital 46 to digital 26. But how much was that expense? Looking on RabbitEars.info, KGNG stated that $288,000 was the estimated cost of staying FCC friendly with the Repack Process. That's not chump change. For comparison, KBLR switched earlier this year to digital rf channel 20 at an estimated cost of $1,752,000.

KHDF 19.3 seems to have dropped the Hispanic version of On TV For U. Now on 19.3 is an English language sports network. I've been unable, as yet, to determine the actual network name, but they seem to be a soccer net. BeIn Sports Extra is the network name.

The Circle is just several weeks away from their national launch of their C&W diginet, and the past several days has seen many affiliates added to the lineup of affiliates, according to RabbitEars.info. Las Vegas is still not included.

Santa didn't bring the gift I had requested of him. That was a local engineer for KEGS-30 and KNBX-31, owned by HC2. Between the two stations, there's only a couple of sub-channels worth watching, and that isn't their combined seven channels of colorbars. I'd much prefer a blank channel with no PSIP over the idiotic colorbars. That just shows their lack of professionalism.

HOT, KNBX 31.4, awoke from its' nap after several days. Too bad the same isn't true for Moxie and Oldie Goldie on KPVT-2. KPVM-25 limps closer to the launch of their service covering Las Vegas, with new paperwork for their transmitter.

Does anyone think that Howard Stirk will offer a New Years surprise and launch The Circle on their currently defunct KHSV 21.3 sub-channel. Short of that happening, a longer shot might be Circle launching on KLAS 8.4. Vegas is too big a market not to snag the Circle. Included within their programming is Hee Haw and F-Troop , I've read.
