You're right, an on screen ticker would be helpful. I'm glad everything got sorted out in the end though.

re: WOSC channel 61 OTA-

Ok, since my last report when they changed frequencies, I need to report that their broadcasts (on all subchannels 1 thru 5) are a complete incompetent mess.

And it has NOTHING to do with signal strength. That is fine.

Every day, at MANY various and random times, either a black blank signal is being broadcast, or the signal is freezing in an odd way (looks like mpeg encoder issues, and certainly NOT signal strength issues), or occasionally no signal is detected. Occasionally things will be fine for several hours. But never for any LONG CONTINUOUS period of time.

Tested on various tvs, tuners, and with different antennas.

Tried contacting them after the frequency change, but I get the impression no one there gives two-shakes about the OTA broadcasts.

So if anyone reads this at WOSC and has smidgeon of competency, get your act together and fix these problems. A month of incompetence is enough. Get it done.

I hear you about WOSC being a mess. I also noticed WIIC having problems. Ever since 31.1 went 1080i a couple weeks ago, my TV can't properly decode the signal. It's just a purple mess. Other tuners are having better luck with it (it's not purple), but it's still not perfect. Also 31.3 has been blank for long stretches of time. Anyway, I hope both of these stations get everything worked out.

FYI -- those clowns at WOSC channel 61 are off-the-air again, broadcasting a black screen on all 5 channels.

Yesterday, 61.1 was the only channel broadcasting black. Today, all 5 are.

Wow those people are incompetent. Makes you wonder how the FCC granted them a license. Surely there is some basic competence requirement.

WPCB-40 has added a couple channels today. The before mentioned Court TV was added on 40-2. They also added Bounce on 40-3. Both channels at 720p. They also moved their Pittsburgh Faith & Family Channel from 40-2 to 40-6.

WPCB is also supposed to add QUEST to it's line-up. Can anyone confirm? Channel is out of range for me.

I read on RabbitEars that Quest was coming soon, but as of now, there's nothing yet. As WPCB moved its PFFC channel to 40-6, it does suggest there's a 40-4 and 40-5 coming. If they do though, I would think that something has to give regarding resolution. Right now they're running 4 channels and 3 of them are HD (1 1080i and 2 720p).

As expected, WPCB just added Quest on 40-4. It's 480i, but not widescreen.

FYI -- another WOSC report -- tonight 61.3 has distorted audio. Appears to be another WOSC technical issue, because the commercials are also affected, not just the shows.

It's kind of sad, but also frustrating that WOSC continues to have problems. Although, to be honest, I don't watch much Buzzr (61-3) anymore ever since WOSC messed up the aspect ratio by stretching it wide and letterboxing it at the same time.

We're about to deal with the channel repack soon and I saw WQED's notice tonight about it. They're going to cease transmitting on their old frequency (RF 13) on June 27th and start on their new frequency (RF 4) on or about July 1st. They also noted that cable viewers will be unaffected during the outage.

Repack is coming soon. The test of stations in Pittsburgh will happen sometime in August.

Well, we're in Phase 4 of the repack which runs from June 22nd through August 2nd. I don't get WJAC so I don't know when it would move, but I know it is moving. As for the full power Pittsburgh stations, KDKA and WPCW aren't moving during the repack. WTAE moved early and changed their frequency last year, so that just leaves the rest of them. For where everything is moving and for low power stations, RabbitEars.info has all of the new channel assignments.

WJAC is in August as well. 34 to 35

I know WTAE moved to 27 last year, but are they going to change WTAE atop the WQED Tower utilizing 22 now?

According to RabbitEars, WTAE is keeping their repeater on RF 22.
