To be honest, all the full power stations are loaded up with subchannels, except for 39. And WIFR will throw a null to the east/northeast to protect WISN anyway,
so even Belvidere is unlikely to get it reliably.
The first time I lose an NLF CBS doubleheader because the Bears are at home, and I can no longer get it on WIFR, I will be very sad.
My question is, why RF 28? They would've been better off on VHF-high. I think 7, 9, and 10 are available in Rockford.

7 will be occupied by WCHU-LD in Chicago. 9 will be occupied by WPVS-LD in Milwaukee. 10 will be occupied by WAOE in Peoria, moving to WWTO's old tower.

That, and VHF power is too low east of the Mississippi for many people to get. Not to mention, most modern VHF antennas don't have the good signal gain needed to get them reliably. Low power VHF signals can only be picked up with large antennas, close to the tower.

Still, wouldn't going on a low-power co-channel be better than WISN's blowtorch?

I just did a more thorough check. 7 fails due to a WRDH-LP and due to WDMW-LD. 9 fails due to a WCRD-LD. 10 is blocked by WAOE.

Well then, it seems to me like WIFR dropped the ball on the whole repack issue. Cue the complaint calls from Belvidere- "I can't watch NCIS!"

Actually, they didn't. Corporate (decision above WIFR) turned in their license and got $40 million (went to the company, not WIFR). WIFR had to pick the best available channel of the table scraps left. This was their best option.

Here is how their final signal pattern will look like:

So, with an outdoor antenna, you'll get them in Belvidere. Beyond that, good luck.

The nationwide channel repack rolls on! At 9:30 AM CT on Monday, November 18, WIFR-LD channel 23.(1-4) physically moves from channel 41 to channel 28. Thus, you'll need to rescan your TV once it comes back on the air shortly thereafter if you have a TV antenna, and if you want to continue to receive the station. The virtual channels you see on your TV (23.1, 23.2, 23.3, and 23.4) remain unchanged.

I have lost WIFR as well. That side-mounted antenna just doesn't get the job done in DeKalb. One other person here in DeKalb says he can't get it either.

If this is the best they can do it's total bullcrap! I've got a channel master CM-301HD with their CM-7777HD amp at 25'. I can get all Madison channels EXCEPT 3 since the repack but at least they're working on that new transmission antenna. I think it's real sad that I can get every other channel out of rockford but no longer 23. What a worthless ordeal this is for 5G phone access that doesn't interest me in the least.

Are my eyes deceiving me? I have WIFR again on the old channel 41? Did they switch back because a lot of people weren't getting reception on the new channel?

You are correct. It was on their 5 PM news on 11/22/19. As of 12:30 AM on 11/23, they got approval to go back to 41 until January 7 per T-Mobile and their FCC license. They're trying to figure out what's going on, so for now, back to 41 they go.

Wonderful, thank you thank you to whoever got this accomplished! At least I’ve got one CBS station to watch ‘til WISC gets on their new antenna.

Let's just say it was hundreds of people bombarding the station with phone calls and emails. One of their staff commented on Facebook saying that "I've never seen anything like it!". I'm glad that the Rockford market has a good, robust community of over-the-air viewers.
