Trip, any idea why KYCW and KXNW were both repacked to 25, seems like Branson area will suffer from either no coverage due to directionality of transmitters, or interference causing poor or spotty reception? Seems odd that they both were placed on 25?

As an LPTV station, KYCW-LD was not repacked. KXNW was repacked to 25. From April 10-May 15, KYCW-LD, along with every other LPTV, has an opportunity to file for a new channel if they can demonstrate that they've been displaced.

KYCW is moving its transmitter from the Fordland location to a spot in Springfield and downgrading power which will eliminate Branson from coverage. It has to do with KYTV moving to RF19 p[er the repack

Here is the proposed coverage for KYCW once it moves to RF25 (which by the way was approved by the FCC)

That's an STA request. Special Temporary Authority. Their permit to build 25 on the KYTV tower remains valid.

Is the move downtown not on an interim basis, to hurry off 19 so that KY3 can begin move? I thought I read that in their STA filing? They have a CP to operate at 15 kW from Fordland on 25. Have they ever actually been on 25, I thought they stayed on 19 when KSPR went low? That's why I incorrectly referred to it as a result of repack.

Once again KOAM and KFJX applied for an increase in power. KOAM applied for 98.8 kw E.R.P. and KFJX for 45.1 kw E.R.P. and I hope they are granted the power increases.

Is there any chance of Joplin or Pittsburg getting a CW affiliate?

As Trip suggested, KYCW-LD has filed for a move to RF24. KSPR-LD has also filed for a move to RF34, also on the KY3 tower, and at the same power. Surely they will consolidate the mapping if this does in fact happen. Will less redundancy result in more channels, or does it allow ATSC 3.0 opportunities for Gray, either their own or some one else's 1.0 simulcast?

KOZK's tower went down in Fordland.

EDIT: Updated story below

Quote:
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - A tower collapsed Thursday morning near Forland killing a man and knocking out service to some areas.

Now, local MSU channel KOZK scrambles to restore its service.

While some service has been restored, KOZK said they're still trying to figure out what to do with the tower.

One man is confirmed dead after a nearly 2,000-foot television tower collapsed this morning.

Webster County Sheriff's Department identified the man as 56-year-old Stephen Lamay.

"We see a lot of different stuff every day, this is probably one of the most significant events I've been to in 25 years of service," said Rob Talburt, the assistant fire chief for the Logan-Rogersville Fire Protection District.

As earlier reported, six contracted crew members from Washington were over 100-feet in the air adding structural reinforcements to the tower when it fell.

"I imagine they'll have to get some structural engineers on the scene to look at that," sand Andrea Mostyn, the Director of University Communications at MSU.

The other five members suffered minor injuries, three of them were transported to the hospital.

The KOZK tower is owned by MSU.

Mostyn said service has been restored to some cable customers, such as people who have U-Verse or Direct TV.

She said there aren't any other ways to watch your favorite programs if your service went down with the tower.

The Joplin area was not affected.

At this time crews are working to restore some satellite providers and over the air service, which is for people who just have antennas.

They don't know how long it'll take to restore service.

The Dish Network here in Springfield said none of their customers were affected by the collapse.

Webster County Sheriff Roye Cole said the cause of the fall will be facing a long investigation ahead.

"Dealing with multiple jurisdictions, from federal to state to private. Everybody's involved for a slightly different piece of the same puzzle," said Cole

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

Transmitter equipment has been delivered to the tower as of last week. Waiting on structural improvements before we can lift the antenna into place.

I believe once the Fordland tower is operational, broadcasts on KWBM will end. I don't know what else will be done with that channel.

DTV America has filed for displacement on two silent Joplin LP stations, asking for RF24 and RF34, same as Gray in their filings. It appears they would like to broadcast from Springfield with these. When will the final placements for LP stations be decided?

Yeah, because their transmission mast collapsed.

That sounds like an awful waste of spectrum.

I was just wondering is KYTV is working on their tower. I live in northern AR and most times I get a really good signal but here lately it has been really come and go and unwatchable.

I saw where KYCW had filed for STA to move down on the tower a bit to make room for new antenna the week of July 9th, perhaps KY3 is prepping theirs as well?

I assume so. Per the STA document

The antenna used by KYCW must be moved to a lower position on the tower in order to allow another station to begin construction of its top‐mount repack facility.

Hello everyone.

Looking for some miscellaneous information on a few Joplin area tv stations.

KPJO 49 - Is this channel currently active and transmitting?

KCLJ 30 and KJPX 35 - are these stations analog only? Various tv listings suggest they have digital channels but I have only picked up analog channels from them.

K41KX 41 - I used to get a lock when scanning for channels but haven’t seen it for several months. Has it shutdown?

K36II 36 - tv guide listings show it as broadcasting the ME TV network. However, that is NOT what it is currently broadcasting. Does anyone know if it used to be ME TV or if it is about to switch to ME TV? Would really like to have a ME TV affiliate.

And finally, I noticed some talk about KOAM and KFJX possibly being allowed to increase their power. Did anything happen with that? Would really like KFJX to have a stronger signal now that they have the CW on 14.2.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

FCC documents still say analog

The station was a translator of KNLC St Louis. Weigel Broadcasting (owner of MeTV) bought the station and converted to to MeTv earlier this year. "Here's Hope Network" (the previous owner) was allowed to keep a subchannel on KNLC (24.2) which broadcasts their programming to the 3 translators they still own (39 in Springfield, 36 in Joplin and 17 in Marshfiled). TV listings didnt make the change.

There are applications pending with the FCC for KOAM to upgrade from 15,000 watts to 98,000 watts (the tower height will drop 50 feet) and KFJX upgrading from 5500 watts to 45,000 watts.

Thank you for the info!

Was really hoping K36II would have Me TV. Oh well.

Would like for this to get approved. KOAM and KFJX are sometimes glitchy and a higher power signal might let me bring them in a little better.

It appears that KRBK engineering, after regularly updating progress, has removed most mentions of upgrade from their Facebook, stating only that an official announcement will be made soon.

I live in an area where KQFX and KRBK overlap. Yesterday KRBK activated their broadcast on RF 22 which happens to be the same RF KQFX broadcasts. It wiped out KQFX. I know KQFX is supposed to move to RF30. Does anyone know when this is going to happen?

doesnt look like for a while. Right now KQFX has a STA to drop power to 3200 watts so they dont cause interference to KRBK. Per the notes to the FCC in regards to Channle 30

The licensee holds a construction permit for displacement to Channel 30.
See FCC File No. 0000052554. However, due to serious tower structural issues, it is not
possible to construct the new Channel 30 facility at this time. Given the limitations on
tower riggers available for tall tower work, in addition to the magnitude of the tower
structural issues, it is anticipated that it could take a significant amount of time to
accomplish the KQFX-LD construction on Channel 30.

Hey everyone,

Has something happened to KFJX’s (14.x FOX/CW) signal recently?

I am in Joplin and for approximately the past two weeks have been having problems picking up KFJX, but am still getting a strong signal from KOAM.

At first, KFJX started to occasionally get artifacts. Then it got to where it constantly had artifacts to the point of not being watchable. Now I can’t get any signal most of the time.

Also, does anyone know what happened to KJPX (analog 35 Retro TV)? It obviously had to vacate 35 when KOZJ moved there but KJPX seems to have just gone off the air instead of moving to a new channel.

Any info would be appreciated.

KJPX-LD holds a permit to move to channel 28 but has yet to construct it, as far as I can tell. Because KOZJ moved to an earlier phase, it may have made it difficult for KJPX-LD to be ready in time.
