They do come in 24/7 except for the tower work which seems to end around 5 or 6 pm and then they're back on the air. The last two or three days WBQC was off the air due to a transmission problem but tonight they are on the air again.

Lucky for us Columbus stations seem to be blocked by a hill to the east but I know what you mean about tropo. That stuff has no respect for hills, but I love it when it happens anyway.

I also posted this on the Dayton forum. I noticed today that WHIO is down. According to their FB page there's been issues since 11/5. Wake me up when all the Dayton stations are working again lol.

At one time, I was receiving ALL of the Dayton full power stations with a rabbit ears in Mt. Airy.
I lost WPTD over the summer and the rest since repack.
I now get exactly NONE of the Dayton stations.

I hope they get things sorted out.

It really is acting weird, Bob. I am 20 miles North of Dayton. My Cincy channels are actually coming in better now. 5,9,19 great, 12 not so much. 30ft tower antenna

I saw on Facebook where Elliott Block of Ch 25 and 20 passed away. Not sure what day it happened but saw some posts about it. He had heart surgery a number of years
ago and seemed to be living life to the fullest. I had a double bypass Sept 2018 and he gave me a lot of encouragement. For those that might no know it he was into classic
automobiles and could often be seen at local car shows

Thanks for letting us know, he hasn't posted here in quite a while, but he was avsforum member as well ... They just posted a great pic of him at wkrp's fb at base of tower with transmission line ... We have been lucky in Cincinnati to have him and his stations around all these years, I can remember the first time seeing his channel 25 (W25AI callsign at the time If I remember right) on air in early 90's ....

RIP Elliot ...

Circle TV is now on WXIX 19.3 while GRIT moves to 19.4 and Ion moves to 19.5.
Circle TV is a Grand Ole Opry type Country/Western channel with other programming too, Hee Haw, F Troop, etc.

It was brought to my attention that Bounce TV is gone from WXIX and replaced with Heroes and Icons. Two new sub-channels on WXIX 19.

From what I'm seeing right now, Live (the changes are going to make my head explode), WCPO channel 9's lineup is...

9.1 WCPO
9.2 Court
9.3 Laff
9.4 Mystery
9.5 Bounce

So Heroes & Icons leaves WKRP for WXIX 19 and Bounce leaves channel 19 for WCPO 9.5, while Circle TV is addad to 19. Not to mention Start TV is added to WKRP 25.9, which dropped their WBQC channels 20's and added them to their channel 25 sub channels.

Wow. TV is crazy in Cincinnati right now.

Any updates on the transition of WPTO and WSTR to their full post-repack facilities? (Both are operating in reduced facilities at the moment according to rabbitears.info) And has anyone seen WDYC-LD yet?

Wilmington, Ohio: Metal roof questions

Hey guys, my house is weird... picture this, a block ‘U’ with the open end facing north east. Also, the east wing is longer than the west wing. The roof slopes to the outside of the ‘U’ in all three directions. So the west wing slopes to the west, the east to the east, and the south to the south. It’s two stories tall. The main front door is in between the wings deep in the open end of the ‘U.’ I have a standing seam steel roof. The second floor is vinyl sided, the first floor is all brick and glass. Here is my main question, if I put an indoor antenna in the top of the east wing, and point it north west through the vinyl sided wall, and not through any metal roof. Would the metal roof affect me? The end of that east wing is just a walk in attic type of space. I’m in 45177 (Wilmington, Ohio) so I hope to get Dayton just fine, but would love to pick up Cincinnati and/or Columbus. Would you guys want to recommend an antenna too? Thanks!!!

I would go to the Local HDTV forum that is specific for your area and ask about antennas and tower orientations. Your best reception is going to be roof-top mounted, not in the attic space. Indoor antennas can work but you'll will greatly reduce the possibility of interference or reduced reception by placing your antenna on your roofline.

I never trust an atom, they make up everything.

Hello, Jeremiahm.

An indoor antenna has the best chance behind the vinyl siding or a window, but we will need more information as required in the sticky for a detailed answer.
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/25-hd...-1st-post.html

Ideally, I would like to look at the satellite view of your location so that I can see the signal lines from the transmitters. Are you willing to give me your address and coordinates in a PM to protect your privacy?

Thank you for the PM; I sent a reply with images.

It looks like Dayton has a good chance of working. Cincinnati would depend upon the house construction in that direction. Columbus signals are a lot weaker. You would have to rotate your antenna or have two antennas if you want Dayton and Cincinnati.

In the satellite view and realtor ground photos I see trees that might block TV signals.

OK, here is the satellite view showing the green signal lines. I used the TVFool Interactive map browser. You can move the marker by drag and drop.

Probably not, but the signals will be weaker inside.

It's difficult to predict the signal strength inside, but I suggest you make some tests for Dayton with an indoor antenna like the Antennas Direct DB4e before going outside.

Just for fun, I tried the Transmitter locator at

https://www.antennasdirect.com/transmitter-locator.html

For the closeup, it is necessary to know the proposed antenna location coordinates because you can't move the marker like you can with the TVFool Interactive map.

The azimuth for each transmitter is given in the list of channels below the map. It is also given if you click on the transmitter on the map in addition to the transmitter coordinates. But, for some weird reason, the PBS transmitter is listed as XHIJ!

The channels are listed by increasing distance instead of decreasing signal strength and they don't list many callsigns; I added WPTD.

This is the way rabbitears.info lists the PBS subchannels, which I much prefer:

Threads merged. Picked the Cincy thread over the Dayton one as I recall having a lot of Wilmington listeners when I was at WUBE. I'll add a link to the Dayton thread, as well.

If you are going to put one up outside I would recommend this one, it will allow you to point on section towards each location. I would try it in the attic first just to see what you get, then move if outside if need be.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also until WRGT/WKEF go back to full strength WRGT will be hit or miss. I am in 45011 and have one antenna, in my attic pointed towards Cincinnati and another on the back of a garage outside pointed towards Dayton. Until the most recent repack phase I picked up ALL Dayton & Cincinnati channels fine with one of these in my attic just point towards Dayton:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also depending on the number of televisions you are planning on feeding one of these:

Feel free to ask any more questions or if you need a hand with anything just shoot me a PM, I love projects
