WSPA Problem

Ever since the recent repack, I have had trouble receiving WSPA. Initially it was weak but then cleared up for awhile, but now it is out again. I am in Kings Mountain NC and I have a straight line shot from my outside antenna to Hogback. It used to be the strongest signal I had, I could pull it in on rabbit ears but no more. I have no trouble with WHNS, WYFF, WLOS, WUNF 33 or WUNE 17.

WSPA hasn't changed.

A rabbitears report can help determine the terrrain between your location and WSPA: https://www.rabbitears.info/searchmap.php

What kind of antenna are you using? You may need a dedicated VHF antenna like a Stellar Labs 30-2476.

OK, well my signal trouble with them started in July during all the other channel repacks. I have a Channel Master CM-5016 antenna mounted on my chimney with a Channel Master preamp. It's aimed W SW from my location directly at Hogback. This setup has worked very well for 3+ years until this past July. Like I said, I have signal issues with any other stations except WSPA so maybe they are on reduced power. It's very frustrating.

WSPA will not repack until the last phase(May 2020-July 2020). I have not had any trouble with WSPA. You have something else going on.

I would start with bypassing the preamp and power inserter to see if you get anything. Unplug the power inserter first before you bypass the preamp.

Must be some sort of local interference at your location if the other channels come in. I don't think WSPA has reduced power. Perhaps the harmonics of some other signal since the repack may be causing interference or overloading the preamp and cause WSPA to drop out. Or perhaps FM interference near channel 7. There are strong TV and FM signals on the nearby Dallas towers from Charlotte that could have overload issues with a preamp. Do you have a FM trap at the antenna or preamp?

No, I do not have an FM trap installed but I will get one and give it a try, and also bypassing the amp and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestions.

Since this is a historical question, what NBC(or syndicated) show did retired WYFF/4 anchor Kenn Sparks interrupt to announce that Clemson Head Coach Danny Ford was fired?

Some preamps may already have FM trap built in.

he is the second one to retire

1st was Newschannel 7 WSPA Tom Crabtree back in July

and now John Cessarich News 4 Wyff 4 in November

I say it problem getting close to time that Micheal retire if he getting close to the retirement age.

28 Yrs ago when John Cessarich made his debut on wyff 4 Carl Clark and Annette Estes was WYFF 4 news anchors and Stan olink former channel 7 sports director was WYFF 4 sports director here is a clip from his debut http://*******/2D0s1kX

New UNC-TV translator RF16 Tryon NC is now on the air, mapped as WUNG-58 which is the Concord station serving Charlotte. Looks like it should rather be identified as a translator for WUNF-33 from Asheville, but it is all the same programming nevertheless. But not really sure why this signal is necessary, as strong full power signals from WUNF-33 and WUNE-17 seem to cover the area adequately, on RF20 and RF36.

If that station is on RF 16 and when the Low Power channel 28 come on line on RF 16 it maybe hard to pickup channel 28 on RF 16

The UNC TV RF 16 is not reaching down to my area to Channel 58

May eventually cause interference. But channel 31- RF15 come in good.

Has UNC-TV RF20 increased power yet for channel 33-WUNF? Looks like I notice some changes.

I believe UNC-TV picks up the feeds for the translators off-air. The mountains might block the new WUNF site at that location. WUNG-58 or another translator that relays it must have been the most reliable signal they could receive.

I've been getting a 50% signal strength at my house since the they moved to the new transmitter site. Tonight I'm getting 61%. Don't know why. It could just be atmospheric.
