Given the amount of work now being done over at KXAN, I'd be surprised if we see 54-3 and 54-2 anytime soon.

I hope we see as few subchannels as possible--the blocky motion artifacts during football on KXAN are vomit-inducing, and even games on KEYE look bad to me now. (Not macroblocking, but sudden shifts in detail level and color.) I'm on TWC if that matters. KXAN's issues are not new, but can anyone confirm that the PQ on KEYE has also taken a dive (particularly football)?

Yeah KXAN during football is horrible since they've added 36-3, any large amount of movement the graphics for the score go very soft/out of focus.

I moved my Mohu Leaf from outside wall to taping onto window glass. Showing 100% signal on most channels. Worst picture is when the wind is up. Wonder if the wind shakes the tower and stuff.

Hi guys...looking for a little assistance. I love out in Briarcliff(Spicewood). I just cancelled Uverse TV, kept the internet and bought a Roku4. I'm going to try a Leaf50 inside first and see if I can get ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox. If it doesn't work, I'll look for a bigger attic mount HD antenna. Right below the attic space was the garage which I've converted into a home theater. In it I have an Epson 5020 mounted with HDMI run to it. As long as I can get locals in one of the 3 rooms(HT, Living room, or bedroom), I'll be happy. So if the Leaf doesn't work, what would I need for the attic setup to the Epson? Besides the antenna, would I just need a converter box with HDMI output? So I'd mount the antenna in attic, run coax down the front theater wall to the converter box, then HDMI to the Epson? If this sounds right, what is a solid, recommended HDTV converter box/digital tuner with HDMI out......like Homeworx etc? Thanks in advance.

Well, I now understand that 54-2 and 54-3 will light up sometime on Friday, exact time still uncertain. The signals are in house the equipment is in, now all they have to do is finish the hookup. Grit TV and The Laff Channel will occupy the two, but no word on which is which.

Kevin, if your attic doesn't allow for a large vhf/uhf antenna, you can mount in on the garage ceiling. (Just don't look up.)

Hi grit. Plenty of room in the attic for a large HD antenna. I'm trying the leaf 50 tomorrow inside and if that doesn't work good enough, I'll be looking into a bigger one for the attic with something like the Channelmaster DVR+ and run it to my projector.

As promised, KXAN got 54-2 (Grit TV) and 54-3 (Laff) up and running this afternoon. Video on both looks pretty good at first glance.

Getting CW 54.2 & 54.3 but the signal strength has dropped to around 32% from the 80's. I live in Kyle. Anyone else notice the drop in signal strength ? Is there plans to up their power ?

Getting 54.2 & 54.3 on Mohu Leaf from Oak Hill area (about 9 or so miles from KXAN tower) with about 86-85% signal strength.

The leaf 50 is optimized for UHF so it may not work very well on ch 7

I'm not able to pick 54-1, -2, or -3 at all in Georgetown. I can get the translators at 28 and 15, but on one TV Grit and LAFF map to 28-4 and -5, respectively, but the other TV maps both to 0-0, instead 28-xx.

Agreed. Winegard has some good options that work for both uhf/vhf bands.

Is anyone getting guide data for 54-2 or 54-3 yet? It's been on the air 2 weeks now and Tablo still doesn't have it. Tablo support told me their guide provider gets it from s Schedules Direct. Somehow www.TitanTV.com has the data, but Tablo doesn't use it, so I have to do manual recordings.

Hi! Long time no see!

We dropped Dish and are back to OTA. We found 62.3 GetTV and we were watching Lost Horizon when the signal dropped. Right at the end too - maybe 10 min or so before. It went to a commercial, started pixilating and getting blocky then no signal. It was on our USDigital Converter box with our square Weingardt antenna (which won't pick up channel 7) so I went and checked out other tv that picks up everything normally and nope, no signal there either.

Anyone else have this happen? Maybe we're special? It was coming in great before that.

Winegard FL5500A is the best indoor antenna I've found. I'm around the YMCA on Rundberg and get 17-5, 17-6, 62-3, 62-4 in addition to 7, 14 18, 36, 54 and the associated sub channels.

I requested guide data be added via my Schedules Direct account shortly after they went live, and obviously that hasn't happened yet. They're usually pretty good about adding it quickly (KBVO-CD), but some of the more esoteric channels can take a while, in my experience.

Channel 62 (13 physical) is in a different direction from most of the Austin towers. Unless you're very close to it, you'll probably need to re-angle your antenna to catch both, or use a supplementary antenna.

I get LAFF on the TV I have plugged directly into the antenna feed, but it's not coming in on my main Vista Media Center rig or on the WMC8 that I have in the office. Both of those Media Center computers are hooked up to an HDHomerun that WILL tune LAFF if viewed through the HDHomerun Viewer. Confusing, but the problem is obviously the way that LAFF is being recognized and configured by Media Center.

Follow-up: I have guide data from Schedules Direct for both these channels now. I hadn't checked in a while, it was probably there earlier.

Check out http://www.tvfool.com/ .

Thank you!

I realize that. I was very surprised that we got the channel in the first place since we have a directional set top antenna. We get crazy bouncing with it - even though the rest of the channels are in the same direction from us here, we have to keep moving the antenna for each channel and none of the channels come in correctly when we point the antenna right in the direction of the farm. We have one channel that comes in best when we point the antenna straight up!

I know it's weird. We have used this tv, box and antenna before we got Dish years ago and we didn't have this happen. We didn't get 62 then unless we moved the antenna and the atmosphere was right.

This time we had the channel all day up until 10pm that night. Since then we got it in once but pixilated and then frozen. Our other tv with bunny ears has yet to pick it up.

I guess we just had a lucky day that day.

I noticed recently that after many years, KLRU's 18.2 Create and 18.3 Q are now full width and height widescreen (480i), rather than being double-letterboxed. Not a huge deal, but nice I thought.

Unfortunately that change screwed up the aspect ratio on a CRT connected to a DTVPal DVR. I recorded KLRU-Q programs on Monday and on playback, the default 'auto' setting doubled the black top and bottom borders. Manually correcting it to 'normal' fixed the problem. But any use of the forward or back functions flipped it back to 'auto'. I rescanned and thankfully the problem seems to have been corrected. I'll record new episodes on Monday to test.

This was the result of the mandated installation of new equipment on the way to implementation of atsc3 which is probably all tied up with the spectrum auction etc. If backwards compatibility is irretrievably broken, all the remaining CRTs will go to landfill and we'll all have to buy new TVs. The Feds once again making the world a better place for corporate profits . . .

When that time comes, I hope I'll be able to find a 'dumb' flatscreen . . .
