I had a little time today to modify the script - if you're interested I'll post it - basically it lets you define the HDHR id and tuner number as variables at the top, a default channel to use if you forget to tune one in using the gui, and it logs everything directly to a file automatically (optionally, including the "...." output vs. showing it in the console). I ran it on KTVU (48) for 2 1/2 hours tonight and here are the final stats:

Code:
-- Video statistics --
16876354 packets received, 8366 overflow errors, 0 network errors, 0 transport errors, 0 sequence errors
ch=auto:48 lock=8vsb ss=74 snq=85 seq=100 bps=19392576 pps=0
tun: ch=auto:48 lock=8vsb:677000000 ss=73 snq=85 seq=100 dbg=12687-9988-1400/-19
dev: bps=19392576 resync=0 overflow=0
ts: bps=19392576 te=0 miss=0 crc=0
net: pps=0 err=0 stop=1

Wed 08/31/2016 - 22:24:55.14
I'll run it on KNTV and KSTS as time permits. Thanks again for sharing that - this is really interesting to learn.

Feature creep.

I would like to see what you have done. I likely will adopt it for a new set. Be sure and put a REM in giving the date (/Time) the script was written and tested.

I thought about a system of four BAT files that called a master one passing the tuner ID / number. I did not wish to do the research on several topics. Two or three decades ago I would have.

If you look at the original post (attached) and compare it with what is now online:

Silicondust • View topic - Saving an unfiltered 30 second clip
http://www.silicondust.com/forum2/vi...hp?f=15&t=2491

They are quite different, perhaps for W10 BAT files are toast.

Chuck, sincere thanks.

KNTV has been perfect for the past two hours, except one 0.25 second audio drop. Fingers crossed. (I also have Samsung TVs, but does the brand make a difference?)

I've been seeing it on a Sharp via a Dish Hopper. I don't think the set type makes a difference....

I'll take a look at what you posted, clean it up, and post the code back for you to look at. I'm not a windows sysadmin so I don't really know powershell. I would like to have a system that scans for a certain amount of time, then quits automatically, but I don't think that's possible with batch files.

I noticed that KFTY and KTVJ .1 - .4 sub channels show "Can't be decoded" on my TV. The .5 - .9 sub channels are normal.

On my very first useful home computer, the Tandy Color Computer, OS-9 has a "tee" command that I used a lot which is what we need to send results both to a file and the screen. (OS-9 has Nothing to do with apple!!!)

PowerShell appears to have "tee", I noted that Windows Update on W7 installed it a while ago.

If we can switch to PowerShell, and I do not know any reason not to, that's the first real reason to make the switch. The learning curve must be close to zero for what we wish to do.
EDIT! WRONG!

Not saving the results to a file is the way I wish to go.

Keith is having problems with his link from Oregon. This has been an intermittent problem for the past few weeks. He's getting some new equipment to replace the failing unit. x.1 - x.4 all come through the same link.

So this explains why 11.1 still has frequent A & V interruptions? Who is Keith?

This has nothing to do with KNTV 11. Keith is Chief Engineer of channels 12 and 45 (RF 2 and 4). My comments are referring to Chuck's post above about sub-channels 1 thorough 4 not displaying.

Your hopes have been filled.

After three days of being good KNTV VC 11 RF 12 problems have returned.

I used one of my newer HDHR tuners to check that the old ones were not lying, it was the same.

Maybe is it just is the last of the summer reruns.

KNTV really sucks tonight, even worse than with the Olympics. A variety of frequent audio and video disruptions. Dr. Fischer, please do something.

That KNTV will not last the long weekend.

The chief engineer will be getting a call soon.

I do not know the Chief Engineer, his name or phone number or e-mail address.

So I will tell him nothing.

If the current trend continues the phones at the station will be lit up with thousands of calls, just like when Orson Welles caused a nationwide panic with his broadcast of “War of the Worlds”.

------------------------------------
Perhaps the "whatever" they replaced at the station is being damaged by "something else" and will continue to be damaged as more good "whatever" are installed.

I just do not believe what the test is showing, it is so bad.

I hope that others can run the test so the possibility of something in my system is bad can be eliminated.

Don't understand testing. What tells you KNTV OTA signal is "bad". Those "s" marks?

It's not your equipment that's broken, Nani. I've just run another test here and I see very similar results to yours above. The problem has clearly grown much, much worse tonight. It's astonishing that a major network station can have such incompetent oversight as is evident at KNTV these past several weeks.

Mark, yes, there should be no (i.e., less than 2 or 3 "s" per hour) in Nani's test output. As I reported last week, there were several per minute back then and tonight there are 25 per minute. KPIX gives me 0/hour.

Amen.

.

Everyone please call KNTV 408-432-6221 and press
option 4 to report this signal problem. Multiple calls
might get their attention.

I watched KNTV News at 2300 with my new 2016 Sony "Smart TV" and saw a correlation with the sequence errors on screen.

There were no major breakups and audio sounded, well OK as I am not accustomed to the weatherman’s voice.

Older HDTV sets may not be as forgiving. YMMV

It's been better since 2300 hours. Thanks, Fischer. Must have been your call to the Chief.

I haven't watched KNTV at all tonight, but after seeing all of your posts I turned on "Saturday Night Live". After a minute with no problems the picture started breaking up really bad and then the audio got so bad it disappeared a few times.

I called the number that Mark gave us and complained about the problem. I left a voice message saying that "reception during the Olympics was bad, but now I'm watching Saturday Night Life and it's worse. When are you going to fix your problem? You're a major station in a major market and your signal sucks."

I hope they get so many calls their heads will spin.

Hi Larry. Yes, the video worsened shortly after 11:30PM. Thank you for calling KNTV.

Sorry I missed it last night but I checked this morning and saw more breakups. I don't understand why they can't isolate the problem.

Chuck, aiui, they haven't even acknowledged that there IS a problem. They're too incompetent to check the transport stream for missing packets. There'll be no solution found while they're in denial.

Perhaps KNTV-11 has too many chiefs, and not enough Indians. (I can say that as I'm a Native American).

Will the last subscriber leaving Dish Network please turn off the satellite.

I wonder if there even is equipment available for the stations except the way that a HDHR can.

A $90 HDHR and a laptop is all that is needed, tell the newest engineer to install it at home and to learn how to read Toast0's charts.

They will lose more money than that from answering calls and lost ad's.
