Nexstar also now has their own groupwide deal with the Katz networks for their subchannels (Grit, Escape, Laff).
Technically, Sinclair doesn't own WWCP or WATM. One of the many shell companies that Sinclair uses to increase their station ownership caps owns both WWCP and WATM. Both stations have been co-owned for some time, going back into the 90's. Their joint studio was (and may still be) along Scalp Ave. outside of Johnstown, just beyond the 219 interchange. WJAC is the only station Sinclair actually owns, and that was sold to them by Cox Media, who sold it and WTOV in Wheeling/Steubenville, keeping Pittsburgh's WPXI.

You got your wish...sort of. WJAC will be replacing 6.4 TBD with The CW on September 16th.

The memo they sent out has no mention if it will be in HD, if it is, it will likely be downres'd to 720p like Sinclair does with WHP over in Harrisburg. There's also no mention if they will be locally programming it or if they're just going to pass along The CW Plus feed.

TBD has cable coverage so most likely Sinclair would try to bump off WPCW. Should be interesting

It is CWplus

It's from a memo WJAC and Sinclair sent to cable and satellite affiliates alerting them of the change (and that it's going to cost them "the prevailing per subscriber rate applicable to carriage of CW-affiliated DTV signals" to carry it).

Since they are using CW Plus, odds are DirecTV will replace their remap of WPCW with a remap of the east coast DNS feed like they do for most other CW Plus markets and put it on channel 7 next to WJAC. I'm not sure what Dish will do. Area cable providers will likely give it WPCW's channel number, even if they already carry WJACDT4, since they likely want it with the major locals and not higher up where most cable providers bury the subchannels.

It’s 720p

All four sub channels look sharp.

6-1 NBC 1080i
6-2 MeTV 480i wide
6-3 Comet 480i
6-4 CW+ 720p

I thought "Seinfeld" looked adequate last night in 720p. I thought of notifying TIVO of the channel change but I'm somewhat curious how long it will take them to catch on so I have not. I'll let them know Oct 1 if the guide still is not updated. Perhaps someone will beat me to it.

CW+ vs local CW

The downside of CW+ is I assume we will not be receiving any local sport games of any nature.

The CW Plus does have optouts available for local programming like news and sports, but WHVL already has most of the local sports rights in the market, including the Penn State highlight shows, while WTAJ has the rights to the pre-season Steelers games.

Thanks for all the info guys!

I knew something had to have happened because my DVR recordings of WJAC 6-1, randomly were a smaller GB size and at first I thought the recording malfunctioned.

I honestly never expected WJAC to randomly be affiliated with CW as I always figured they'd just stick with NBC, MeTV, and some assortment of their own subchannels.

Syndication?

Anybody know the likelihood of WJAC using the 2 sections of CW+'s Paid Programming/Local Blocks as places to put some syndicated programming?

Right now it seems like WJAC's 6-1, really has little room for syndicated programming but possibly as much as 4 hours or more could be put in to 6-4, at least according to the generic CW+ Schedule.

Right now, I can't receive anything but WJAC but it seems syndicated stuff is only only the channels I can't get OTA, such as WTAJ, WATM, WWCP, & WHVL.

CW shows up on TIVO now however the symbol still shows the old TBD. But guide data is correct so that's good.

I see they are running seinfeld eps during the 10:00 PM local news hour.

Not atm. I used to have Limited Basic with ABB but dumped it.

I mainly want Classic TV Shows & Late-Night Shows (Colbert, Kimmel, etc).

So with MeTV, The Roku Channel, Fire Stick, Crackle, and some other services along with CBS, NBC, ABC Free On Demand, I pretty much have the vast majority of stuff I want covered for free.

Now I wouldn't mind some of the syndicated stuff that WATM has late night/weekends, but ABB claims $35+ and box rental and it doesn't make the greatest sense for wanting like 4 channels max.

It seems like ever since late last year, more stuff even syndicated stuff like Forensic Files has gone streaming. It seems eventually everything maybe be streamable one day.

The limited ABB is a joke. PBS has their Roku channel plus live streaming of PBS kids, you get the 4 WJAC channels, ABC and FOXNOW are ok, most stuff on This and Antenna TV is free, WHVL, BUZZR, and News Net all live stream on their websites, Dabl live streams, Bounce offers selected shows free, court tv is free on Roku. The nosey channel has most talk shows and some court shows.

My only suggestion would be subscribe to CBS all access....you get a live stream of WTAJ plus all current shows on CBS plus classic shows and movies. You can sign up for a free trial.

Wow! Thanks for the info on WHVL, I never expected that.

I knew about Buzzr/NewsNet & CBS All Access but I figured WHVL being a small little station, streaming would be one of the last things they would attempt, mainly due to budget.

I did notice though, many LP/smaller local stations are going with companies like LocalBTV or trying to stream themselves, as they seem to realize that they can reach anybody online vs trying to beg cable co's to add them.

I’m receiving WKBS on their new channel here in the Tyrone area, and I agree that it’s as good or better than their channel 46 signal was.

I do wish that they would fix the PSIP for their main channel as (for me at least) it’s still identifying as its physical channel, except now it’s annoyingly shoved into the middle of WJAC’s channels. 🤦‍♂️

How can I be sure in a world that's constantly changing?

Thanks Nokorola for the signal report. I will pass the info to chief engineer. Did you try a fresh rescan?

Out in Penns Valley in Centre County signal strength went from 60 on RF 46 to none on RF 6. I didn't care anyways but was curious if my cm4228hd would pick it up. With the switch to loVHF no surprise I did not.
