It is currently posted on their 46.2 subchannel which I receive OTA. (RF47). The same announcement regarding Antenna TV coming to 46.2 is also posted on 55.2, but no plans announced yet for the 55.2 subchannel on RF39.

I see it too I am glad all those in CLT (who wanted Antenna TV) are finally getting it. It will be interesting to see what happens on the 55.2 subchannel.

Btw, does anyone know whether there was ever any past discussion about CLT getting an ION affiliate? We've got one up here. However, the transmitter is 38 miles to my east and I cannot see it OTA because it's a low power broadcaster.

WGPX is not a low-power station. It is a full power station.

I'm not sure if this is an indication that AntennaTV is close to coming on air, but I notice the Dish Network receiver program guide has updated 46.2 to say Antenna TV: Coming Soon!. Prior to today, it simply repeated what was on 46.1.

As far as the power level and reception issues of WGPX, I will leave that alone in this forum since its more relevant to the GSO/W-S market.

I only brought up WGPX on this forum since I was curious to know if anyone ever heard of any reasons concerning why the CLT market does not currently have an ION affiliate.

Maybe there is no demand for ION. It shows more infomercials than real programming. Seems to me that WAXN had it for a while and dropped it.

I wish I could see antenna tv in eastern NC. Notice my title...

I find it odd that the Raleigh market has two ION affiliates and the Greensboro market's ION is in the far eastern part of the market. Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but why doesn't one of the Raleigh stations move to the Charlotte area?

The Raleigh ION affiliates don't overlap at all. 47 is far to the northeast of Raleigh and 62 barely makes it past the north end of Cumberland County.

A Tv station just can't "move to the Charlotte area"..it's not that simple...FCC license & frequency allocations, tower space, and especially the economics.
..if there were any money to be made in an ION affiliation, Charlotte would have one.

Ironically, the very channel your station, WCCB, broadcast on in analog, channel 18, was actually reallocated from Fayetteville! The FCC had originally allocated only 3 commercial channels to Charlotte, 3, 9, and 36. As we know, WCCB debuted on 36 in 1964 using the license WAYS-TV had broadcast from in the 50s. When WCCB moved up to their NE Charlotte tall tower they changed to channel 18, leaving WCTU (now WCNC) to establish a new station on 36 in 1967. Somehow, the FCC had reallocated 18 from Fayetteville, where WFLB-TV had occupied the channel during the 50s!

Yes, and the article you shared further proves the point that the FCC is not in the mood to help any broadcaster now days. It seems they are determined to continue to work with the special interest lobbies to force broadcasters down into a narrower spectrum. It will be interesting to see what Congress ulitimately decides on this important issue.

Even if there was money to be made with Charlotte having an ION affiliation, such an application would probably be frozen for a very long time if it involved any new broadcaster wanting to come to town.

Hopefully the next Charlotte station won't be an ION affiliate. Looking at their schedule, I don't see anything on it that can't already be gotten somewhere else.

I am much happier that WCCB brough MeTV to CLT as MeTV's first NC affiliate. I'm looking forward to AntennaTV and to the day when WHKY manages to hook up enough duct tape, cat's whiskers and wet cells to bring us RTV. I can think of several others that I'd like to see over ION.

MeTV is a nice subchannel of WCCB. They offer quite a bit of variety in vintage TV.

As for ION, I don't like their informercials at all. However, I agree with jspENC in that they do run some good HD movies. Ion is a national affiliate, but they are missing from several major markets, to include Charlotte.

Virtually all ION stations are O&Os. The largest market affiliate that I can find is WBNA in Louisville owned by WORD Broadcasting (founded by Dr. Bob Rodgers, an area evangelist).

Does WSOC 9.1 on RF34 appear to be at reduced power tonight? They normally come in strong for me evenings and overnight, but they are gone tonight. However WCCB 18.1 on RF27 is coming in strong from same general location, whereas for me WSOC is normally stronger. Anybody notice?

Couple of cutouts during the storm but otherwise it is normal.

Well, something is weird tonight as I am getting no signal at all from WSOC, and they normally come in strong in the evenings at 8 to 10 bars. WCCB is 10 bars tonight and they are normally weaker at about 6 at night. But could just be strange summertime weather conditions.

Troposphere bending is working well tonight. Most of the Triad stations in NC are coming in very strong in Fort Mill. Could be getting some adjacent or co ch interference.

WSOC and WAXN are at reduced power and have been off and on all week...Yesterday was usually as the JIM Pole was in the UP position in an attempt to lift the new WAXN antenna, however the storm came up and they were not able to lower the JIM Pole for the night. Both station were at reduced power during the overnight. Hopefully the WAXN antenna will go up today and the reduced power times will be behind us. Thank you for your patients.
