Weak here for me right now with a 24-SNR which is usually around 35. I saw it drop out to zero a couple of times today also.

Most definitely reduced power, I was able to pull in WYFF better than WCNC. Ended up watching that for NBC.

Maybe you all need a preamp..Zaxcom needs at the least to raise his antenna ...

You are right, I need to add two more antennas and at least that many pre-amps and I might get WCCB good enough for 4.2.2 quality.

Are you trying to get it in MPEG2 4:2:2, H264 4:2:2, or H265 4:2:2 ? You need to be specific..

They must be having technical issues because since yesterday I get no signal at all. SNR says 11.70db. And the past week or so they seemed to be at reduced power on the signal meter. Hopefully they will get it corrected.

Trying to MPEG-2 4.2.2, If I increase the voltage on the pre-amp to 18vdc will that improve the ATSC M/H Parade..?

I called WCNC newsroom and the lady answered the phone said they have technical problem and are working to repair. Hopefully by the end of the day and they will be back to full power.

Thank you. That information is very helpful. The technical problem was already happening Friday evening. I could hardly get a signal to watch my favorite signal, Grimm

Trying to watch Meet the Press now and the issue persists.

I also am not receiving WCNC well, north of Charlotte. Normally there is no issue at all, signal solid.

No they are still not back to normal. No signal here in the fringe Greenville, SC. SNR is still around 11.70db. But good it improved a bit in your area. Probably because WCNC has side mounted directional antenna towards Charlotte, so the signal my be a bit stronger to the northeast rather than the southwest. WBTV is top mount omnidirectional, as seen on the FCC coverage maps. But I am watching Tom Brokaw special on WYFF-4, so no problem for NBC.

WCNC website says major transmitter failure. They hoped to have it repaired Sunday but look like it may be Monday. Unless they have to order a part or something. Also out on Dish Network but not Time Warner or DirecTV. Not sure about original Charter Spectrum systems which may get OTA. I guess Direct and Time Warner have fiber feed or some other than OTA.

Just found this gem of a photo on a Charlotte history FB page. I guess this was the WCCB transmitting tower seen in this shot - as opposed to a tower for an STL or other station use. This tower no longer exists. So, Bob or others, what's the history of this tower?

Thanks,
Eric

Update: Spoke to WCNC. They are hoping to repair transmitter to full power by Wednesday afternoon. Had to replace 60 feet of transmission line.

I'd say! May I ask what type of antenna do you have? Mine is a simple indoor amplified antenna I have on an upstairs window. I've haven't had any issues with WCNC until this weekend.

I'm as far north of Charlotte as Tyler is south, and there is signal, but very little this far away. The ERP is way lower than normal. None of my receivers can decode anything but small segments of the signal.. I miss Dick Cavett.

You see some signal from WCNC because their side mounted antenna is optimized your direction. They have a null to the southwest, unlike WBTV which is more omnidirectional. WJZY is also side mounted, but they do not have as much of a null. Hopefully WCNC will be repaired by Wednesday evening as projected. But I have a strong local signal from WYFF-4 for NBC, so no problem there.

I've got no signal from WCNC here south of Waxhaw at noon today. It was working ok last night.

Working again now at 5:30 pm.

Thanks for the info provided about this issue!

I recently noticed that my NextPVR OTA recordings of WCNC began failing due to no signal beginning on 1/28. I live about two miles from center city Charlotte and normally WCNC is one of my strongest and most reliable OTA signals, with typical SNR in the green around 24-26 with an indoor directional antenna.

This afternoon I could not acquire a signal.

However, this evening the signal is there, but weak, so I was able to record the evening news, with SNR in the yellow zone, below 20. Some dropouts, but the recording completed normally.

The good news is that the Super Bowl is being broadcast on WJZY, which is still coming in loud and clear, so no hurry ... :-)

WCNC signal has now been restored. Not sure if they are full power yet, but at least they are back. Will check more tomorrow.

Because I am in the null side of their side mounted antenna, sometimes their signal is 8 bars on a Samsung TV; other times it is 4 or 5. Hard to tell with them as they are more subject to atmospheric conditions. WBTV and WJZY have more omnidirectional contours, as seen on the FCC coverage map. WBTV is always 10 bars and 33db SNR. Not sure why WCNC chose a directional antenna for 22, when their analog 36 was omnidirectional. I suppose it was to boost the signal more towards the east side of Charlotte which is more of their designated market area. Or perhaps to avoid adjacent channel interference with WHNS on 21.

But glad to see WCNC is finally back.

I checked again this morning. WCNC is back to full strength where I am located, about 22 miles from the transmitter. Glad they are back, too!

That must have been a very long time ago. A confessed tower spotter I never remember seeing a tower like that at WCCB. WTVI had one at their building across the street, I remember that one. The last time I saw it they had cut it down somewhat but used it for the studio transmitter link I believe.
