Good to know about the Smith Mtn change; I called the WSOC newsroom Saturday morning to report it off the air and they provided no information about the need to re-scan. Also, is this the same building on Smith that housed the WXRC (95.7) transmitter in the late 80s-early 90s?

Of course! But first we have to get WSOC off of channel 34!

Forgot about that so that make sense. But it may be September before WSOC move to 19 unless plans have changed. Just wish WCCB would reconsider Crowder's Mtn. like they had planned before but hopefully I will get main channel on 18.

My Antop 400BV antenna on the table was pulling in main WSOC and WCCB all day after I hook up Winegard LNA200 preamp. Spartanburg County. Probably summer conditions were favorable today but I will monitor over the coming days. Some days they drop out from 8bay antenna in the attic. I hope improvement in September when they move to 18 and 19. But that Antop is a good antenna, especially when you replace inline amp with a better preamp.

Do you have a LTE filter on the 8-bay in the attic..?

Must be some organ transplant (antenna) rejection on the mountain. The mountain doesn't like channel 26. WSOC/WAXN translator on Smith Mtn is off the air this morning.

It's a good thing there is a backup generator at Crowder's Mountain because the power grid goes down in that area quite often during a storm. I heard the thing churning away just this weekend.

Big Ole Yeller powers the FM broadcast transmitter. Another smaller Generac behind the building powers Gaston county comms. Everything else up there goes off air including my own cabinet. A real PIA site.

Not sure if the direction of the antenna or power was changed or if it's just the lower channel number, but I am now locking in WSOC in Spruce Pine from this tower site and I was never able to get it before with the old channel 42 antenna even though WCCB from the same site has always been my second strongest channel. Even though I already get WSOC from the main tower I'm really glad to pick this up because WAXN was the only Charlotte station I was not able to pick up.

Yeah, those remote way out locations can be a real challenge indeed. I've been to many. I quickly learned how much I appreciate driving directly to a tower site in the 'burbs, get out of my car and walk straight into the building.

Agree w/ the OP though. AC power supply at Crowders is a big problem. Been like it for many years. It's difficult keeping your users happy when a passing rain shower knocks everyone off air.

No signal WJZY and Kiss 95.1. Must be working on the tower again. Wonder when WSOC and WCNC start work on the tower for the repack? They say WCCB delay until October so they have more time.

Also 97.9 off the air but 96.1 still broadcast. Must be different transmitter cable they have to power down, since 96.1 different company from 95.1 and 97.9. And WJZY and radio stations must be on back up system because cannot receive in Spartanburg while they work on the tower.

Let me be perfectly clear here...tylesrsc is in no way shape or form a spokesperson for WCCB.
Therefore, Any comments made by anyone other than myself regarding WCCB’s repack progress or status should be taken as suspect.

Indeed I have no specific knowledge of WCCB repack plans. That's why I said "they say," but I should have said unconfirmed reports I may have read. I thought I saw an FCC filing of some sort that said there may have been a delay. But I believe the public file said most Charlotte stations are Phase 5 in September. I'm sure you will update WCCB status whenever you are authorized or may choose to do so. I did not mean to speculate or misinform. Just those of us who rely on antenna reception are anxious to see what happens in September or whenever the repack time may come.

A friend lives at the base of the mountain, and they stay in the dark quite often compared to outlying areas.

Duke Power is in charge.

I have far more bumps, hits, and outages here in Mint Hill than I do in Boone with Blue Ridge Energy. Which is why I have all my gear on UPS, if you don’t have a ups on your expensive, or even cheap tv ..and associated gear it’s not good.Wifey records a lot of shows via ota on her dvr, and not losing a recording due to a power issue is a good thing.

Besides, no one wants their tv to go out while watching wall 2 wall weather coverage....

Have you noticed that the broadcast signal for the WJZY sub-channels is zero this morning? The Spectrum signal is working.

The signal returned about midday today, and is again close to 100%.

I have my Desktop PC connected to a UPS, but I never thought about connecting one to the TV. The TV is, however, connected to a Panamax surge protector.

I live in an urban area, and power interruptions don't happen here very often. We had power during Hugo. Imagine that!

EDIT: I did lose an older PC to a power surge before installing the UPS.
