I'm in SC and WSOC is coming in great, WCCB is not coming in very good at all, and I'm only 31miles away. I've also lost WUNG and WTVI, I'm about 30-40 miles from there towers.

I think next week on 09/11/2019, that's when all the delayed channels should switch over.

You might be on to something with that one. With the right atmospheric conditions it might just be the cause of the problem where I am and Tyler the coverage pattern definitely looks close enough to be causing your issues.

Perhaps that is the problem. Not a trace of signal in northwestern Spartanburg County. By contrast I am getting a strong signal from WCCB, and they are now reduced power. Now I now I am just beyond the fringe coverage contour for WSOC, but my Samsung and LG signal meters would always detect a signal from 34, even when it would not decode. It would often come in after 6pm and drop out around 10am. Now seeing nothing, and their new 19 signal theoretically should be stronger than before. So will UNC-TV be vacating the channel 19 on Wednesday? I still wonder if there is some sort of technical problem with WSOC and perhaps they are not yet fully operational until WAXN switch to full power on Wednesday. Or maybe that has nothing to do with it whatsoever, just speculating.

Same problem I am having. And you are much closer. You should still get WSOC. I wonder if the new elliptical pattern is causing the problem or if it is UNC-TV interference? Because WCCB at the same basic location is much stronger and they are reduced power. WSOC is supposed to be full power, but something does not seem right. No trace of signal.

WCNC seems improved to the west, but weaker to the east. I suspect they are on the temporary antenna although not confirmed. They have the STA permit for an extension on the top mount antenna. But much stronger signal in Spartanburg County with attic antenna. Nine or ten bars, but not as strong as WBTV when I checked my indoor Antop antenna. But still much improved.

I'm hoping it is the UNC translator(s) and it will disappear next week. Technically parts of our county are in the Charlotte DMA and I'm in the eastern part closest to Charlotte, so it isn't like I'm on the fringes of the signal. If anything I should have benefited from the new pattern based on the contour maps. WCCB comes in stronger than before from the same location at RF18, so I'm betting interference is the culprit. Usually WSOC is stronger than WCCB at my location in the past.

The concern for WSOC may be Cleveland County and Shelby which is definitely part of the Charlotte DMA, and on the map it looks about the same distance as Cherokee County. So they would want to be sure their signal reaches Cleveland County. Although they will eventually replace the Crowder's Mtn. translator, it remains to be seen if the VHF signal on 12 will be as strong as the previous channel 30. I wish them good luck and hope for improvement as a concerned viewer.

Probably better because atmospheric conditions overnight. Should be stronger.

Update on WSOC at my location tonight, I was finally able to scan it in after not being able to this morning, but the signal is coming and going, it's not so much setting on the digital cliff but is having dramatic drops and rises in the signal, I first thought it was the wind but the wind is now calm and the issue persists. WCCB on the other hand is around the same signal strength but is holding steady. I was mistaken earlier when I was thinking pbs channel 17 from Linville may be causing my problems because I was thinking WSOC was now channel 18 instead of 19. Everything else seems improved so far.

So tonight on my WinTV scan I am getting WACH 57.1 FOX all the way from Colombia, over 75 miles away. It doesn't work on the Tivo but comes in great on the WinTV. Not sure how long that'll last.

WSOC has always been one of my strongest channels and never went out in any season when it was on channel 34. I normally do not get WCCB at all from the main transmitter in the summer but it was trying to come in this morning, but that's not a big deal as I get the Smith Mountain translator very reliably ( except right now with whatever issues they're having at that site), unfortunately the WSOC translator from Smith Mountain is very hit or miss but has went from no signal before the channel move to being ably to receive it maybe 25 percent of the time. I know Charlotte is not my home market, but I hope things improve for me with the WSOC signal because I can not receive a single channel from the Asheville GSP market, but I have previously been able to receive every network from the Charlotte market as is the case with most people in this area. I'm wondering if co channel interference from Channel 17 PBS in Linville is causing the problem for me since WSOC moved to channel 18, due to the fact that I can see the PBS tower in Linville from my house and it comes in so strong I can pick it up with a paperclip stuck in the back of the tv, maybe once it moves to it's new channel things will improve.

I'm bummed too that I probably won't be able to get WSOC-Charlotte or WCCB-Charlotte in Morganton. I tried 4 different antennas- an 8 bay, 2 different corner reflectors, and a LPDA. I even tried turning my antenna sideways and nothing. The signal just isn't in the air-- so nothing to be done except build a 100 ft tower.

Finally WSOC come in this morning. Maybe they work on it, but probably atmospheric conditions, late summer, early morning. Not as strong as WCCB, but still decent 5 or 6 bars. WCCB 10 bars. We'll see how it last this afternoon. WBTV and WCNC 10 bars, WJZY 9 or 10.

WSOC / WAXN

WSOC is at full power. Everybody needs to just wait until Wednesday morning for every station in Phase 5 to cutover.
WAXN is at 15% power. It will go to full power at 3:00am Wednesday morning when WUNL goes off.

I know WSOC is getting out there. I received a call from West Jefferson, NC who can receive it and never has before since 9 analog was around.

WSOC is on channel 19. I don't know why some people are saying it is on 18. WCCB is on 18.

We at WCCB echo that sentiment. Be patient. There are a LOT of moving parts not easily evident to some of the hobbyist engineers here.

You can email us at hdtv AT wccbcharlotte DOT com We'd like to know your location and detailed reception reports now.. and.. after Wednesday.
But, due to too many projects and not enough staff, responses may be delayed. Thanks for bearing with all of this...

EXCELLENT advice, Bob. I've the feeling many are making or seriously contemplating changes to their antenna system solely based on how things are NOW though much is in limbo until after we rescan again after 11:59pm Wednesday.

Turn up and Test is suppose to be instant, your not allow to make any adjustments don't you know that..LOL

There is so much involved in getting everything working and the assumption is that you throw a switch...Testing and feed back is critical but I only see critics.

WCCB's 18-11 thru 18-17 via Smith Mtn W20DD-D on channel 20 is back up at half power per our STA until we migrate to CH-34 in the next few weeks.

From Spartanburg County: Held on to WCCB all day, at 5 bars so good signal there. Was up to 10 last night. But lost WSOC after 10am so the weather conditions had played a role overnight. But I now see a trace of signal at 11 or 12db SNR, but just not enough to permanently decode. It drop in and out a few times. So when I am off Sunday and Monday I will try to make some adjustments in the attic with different antennas and positions and see if I can grab on to it. And wait till Wednesday and see if potential interference from UNC-TV go away. And perhaps i can switch to a better preamp that will pull in WSOC. Right now using Winegard LNA200. WCNC much improved maintaining full 10 bars, even if they use temporary antenna.
