SCETV ought to consider that. There's only one transmitter in the Charlotte market, but 3 in Greenville, 2 in Columbia, and 2 in Florence-Myrtle Beach.

Agreed. They could have SC Channel carried on satellite through that sort of thing.

For the lucky few who can receive WTVI, 42-2 will add programming from MHz Worldview on July 1.

I had never heard of Mhz Worldview until reading your post. I googled their program schedule and, wow, looks like some different slants on the news will be forthcoming, with newscasts from France, Euronews, South Asia, and Al Jazeera News. Interesting mix.

Might spark a few discussions around the old water cooler!

As for WTVI's reception, even though it is High VHF, it pegs my meter here in Indian Trail, using a simple $4 Radio Shack UHF bowtie mounted high up in a window facing north.

I have MHz Worldview up here at UVA and I love this station. I've begged my local PBS at home to pick it up, but they're much happier with their SD simulcast.

I also pick up WTVI with no issues in Pineville, which is about 20 miles away, using a UHF antenna. Again because its in the high VHF, good UHF antennas should pick it up. The signal is not as strong as other stations - low 80s vs mid to high 90s on other stations - but good enough to pick up with no drops.

Anyone know if WCNC still plans antenna/power upgrades? They have FCC request for 1000kw and top-mounting antenna. Also, estimation on conversion to HD local news...they are the last holdout in Charlotte market.

I noticed yesterday that FOX 18-3 Weather has a totally new look. Several different maps and a 5-day forecast pop-up. Pretty slick and a solid improvement IMO. Of course, there's also an advertising pop-up, but that's inevitable and understandable.

Looking good!

Does anyone know if WTVI is still on the chopping block, or did Meck decide not to pull their funding? I certainly hope the station survives.

Ditto...I like the new look, too. I am also glad that every other shot is that of the radar, instead of the radar being a "once per cycle" event. So, I am glad (Bob) you guys left the radar at the forefront, so to speak. And, the presentation looks very nice.

Bob...will this radar also display recent lightning strikes like the old one?

Is Channel 9's main digital antenna already top-mounted on tower? Thought I read there might be some upgrades coming next year ... to antenna in Newell. Also, any chance of boosting power on 9.5 signal on Crowders mtn? And have they ever considered 2000 ft primary signal tower in Gaston area like other major stations? I am just on the brink of receiving WSOC ...they tell me Greer area, Greenville-Spartanburg county line is the digital cliff for consistent reception of ch 9. Only receive 9.1 and 9.5 at night but keep hoping. Other CLT channels come in strong - except 9 and 18.

WSOC's antenna has always been top mounted since 1999. WSOC has no plans to move to Gaston Co. with a 2000' tower. Hence, the reason for adding 4 translators to fill in coverage by WBTV and WCNC. WSOC will file to increase power at Crowder's Mtn. when ever the FCC creates a filing window. One was scheduled for July 26th but was canceled last week. 9 and 18 are on 1000' tower in NE Charlotte.

I hope you can file to increase to maximum power for 9.5 as soon as the FCC filing allows. As you know, WBTV, WCNC, and WJZY are much stronger in the western Carolinas than is WSOC, even beyond your target market area. Also, for some strange reason, PSIP data and program info for 9.5 and 64.5 does not decode on Samsung TVs, but does on Panasonic ... can you work on a solution?

WBTV website's "What's On" schedule shows that 3-2 will switch to THIS TV at 2:00 AM next Monday, July 12. Titan TV confirms this, but Titan also shows that WBTV will have weather doppler radar on 3-3. First I'd heard about that, not that we need yet another weather channel, and I doubt that it could give FOX 18-3 any competition.

When you say PSIP data, what do you mean? MGT, PAT, PMT, and VCT being transmitted are within A/65 specs. We do not transmit an EPG, we will when the internet makes it to Crowder's Mtn.

On a Samsung TV, when you press Info button on remote, there appears a rectangular block on the top of the screen that provides station ID and program information. On 9.1, it says WSOC-TV, gives title of current program being broadcast, and provides a brief description of the topic of the program. On 9.5, it says WSOCTV1, but then says No Title and No Program Information. On Panasonic TVs, it does give the title of the program. Perhaps it is an internet issue or some other kind of technical problem.

Why doesn't WBTV place an HD camera on their studio tower? They always had the best studio shot of the Charlotte skyline...Tired of looking at the airport all the time.
