Something happened the other night when that big storm came through. It's not showing up on my TV at all now. I will have to do a rescan.

It IS now showing up on my converter box that I have connected to my VCR though.

Strange things can happen to receivers if they get a glitch at just the right point in time. I have Toshiba Tv in my office that freaks out over any little change in the cable QAM's. Let us know how a rescan does.

18.4 scanned back in along with all the other sub-channels.

I think that 18 was the only channel affected on my TV. That's never happened before. The box that I have connected to my VCR was not affected at all. $20 technology beats $1500 technology.

Does anybody have any idea what the progress is with the WTVI booster (or whatever it is) that was supposed to go up in Hickory?

I am still hoping that when WHKY moves it's tower, I will be able to pick up WMYT.

Does FOX Charlotte (WCCB-18) still plan a signal tower on Crowders Mtn like ch 9? Estimation when?

I got enough audio to hear WHKY-AM through their SAP -- Country Boy, do they still offer this? And, what is "Tuff TV"? All contact sports, all the time?

I rescan channels about once a month. I did this last night just after 10 o'clock. WHKY was coming in (first time ever) at 30-40% with a solid picture. 14.2 had RTN as expected (the A-Team was on), and 14.3 had an old episode of Daniel Boone showing and the Tuff TV logo.

I wondered what the heck that sub-channel was since I had never heard mention of it.

Just went to WHKY's website: http://www.whky.com/default.asp

Scroll toward the bottom, and you will see an "announcements" section. In addition to the new "Tuff TV" channel, WHKY also plans to air a new family oriented programming network on 14.4 this Fall -- 14.4 should be "live" now showing their Jewelry Shopping channel temporarily until Fall. When you re-scanned, did you get 14.4? Wow, WHKY is really taking advantage of their sub-channels.

Eric

PS - Just got off the phone with someone at WHKY. I wanted to ask when (or if) their tower was going up on Bakers Mountain. He said work is underway - he estimated a 6-month completion date. I'm sure many factors can effect that target date, but at least work is underway. I read on the FCC website where last year WMYT had asked the FCC to reject WHKY's construction permit for Baker's Mtn. Reason was potential adjacent channel interference -- WHKY is on 40, WMYT on 39. The FCC ruled in favor of WHKY, so they're moving forward. This may be old news to some of you -- but it's new to me.

No, I didn't get 14.4. As strong as 14.1, 14.2 and 14.3 were coming in, if 14.4 was active I think my rescan would have found it.

Yes, the radio station is still broadcasting on 14.1 SAP.

From their website:
"TUFF TV launched on June 30, 2009. TUFF TV is the first digital broadcast network to offer original programming targeted at men and the specific pursuits, interests, and hobbies they are passionate about."

http://www.tufftv.com/

It is nice to see the folks at WHKY taking advantage of the sub-channels available to them. I hope they can make enough money on these endeavors to make it worth their effort.

14.3 and 14.4 should now be up.

I set the PSIP for 14.4 around 5PM today.

Launch date was this coming Monday.

There is a sound picture sync issue on 14.3 and 14.4.

Will try to get to that problem tonight.

New transmitter project (DTS) Baker Mt and WTVI Charlotte site on schedule for over the winter.

On another note WTVI repeater at the Hickory site should be up in the next few weeks.

I just got done watching I spy on tuff tv! Love the new channel option!

I especially like the tuff tv promo spot that is the running chainsaw on the tool bench. Very manly.

Bob (and others)...you may or may not know that today's Lite 102.9 WLYT was co-owned by WHKY-AM-TV until about 1987 -- as well as having a PHYSICAL presence in Hickory at the current AM-TV studios. Way back when WHKY-FM went on the air (in the 40s I believe with 200 kw) their tower was atop Bakers Mtn, but for not too many years. Like many of the very early FMs, they lacked listener and financial support and went dark. With the "technology" of the time, it was costly to run 200kw w/o significant cash flow. When WHKY-FM returned to the air many years later it was from the current AM site on Tate Blvd at a much lower power. Maybe tesla_engineer can fill in any blanks or clarify anything I stated. I walked up to the old site in the late 80s and again about 10 years later and the old piers for the self-supporting tower were still there along with the xmtr building. It was quite a sight to behold.

That'll be a nice addition for Hickory. Along that line, are there any new rumors about a possible WHKY repeater for Charlotte?

do the Long's still own HKY?

you're not Tom Long are you?

edit: did some web research. i think your grandfather hired me, and your dad fired me.
he told my dad i was very talented but hard to control. at least that's what i remember. it's been a long time...

back then the cameras were all b&w. and the FM played beautiful music off a drop-changer in the (mono) am studio during the day. stereo was accomplished with audition being the left channel and an outboard amp being the right channel, so the turntable had two pots. simulcasting am/fm at night (music) with 2 pots for each turntable. and those magnacorders would take a finger off in fast rewind! but the racks accessable from a back door in the hall behind the studios was awesome.

hey, reception report. i'm in forsyth co, north of winston. cm-4221 in the attic, no rotor (yet). i get hky sometimes, but not all the time. usually no signal, but some nights and early mornings it comes in fine. watching rtv and tuff. i get charlotte stations good here, as well as local triad stations.

Almost 3 weeks since the last post, so I thought I'd throw a pebble in the water.

3.2 ThisTV has been a welcome addition, solidly improving the mix of local OTA. I time-shift Highway Patrol and Sea Hunt Tue-Sat in the wee hours using my DVD recorder (which has a digital tuner). These are great oldies, far better IMO than a lot of current network programming.

The Outer Limits and Bat Masterson are also worth a watch.

YMMV, but I like these classic B&W series.

This morning, WCNC was off the air when I awoke at 6:10am and returned to air around 6:55am. This must be one of the worst dayparts to be off the air - the early morning news. About a week ago, my son said they were off the air during the midday news.

Was traveling near Baker's Mountain earlier today and noticed a huge crane atop the mountain. Good sign that work is well underway on WHKY-TV's new tower. I suppose getting the tower (itself) up won't take too terribly long. Running transmission line, mounting antennas, lighting -- that's a whole other story I suppose.
