Isn't Charlotte the largest TV market without a full power ION station? What a huge loss...

No, St. Louis is larger.

And you're not really missing all that much by not having ION.

Yeah, I get ION on Comporium Cable, so I know its not hitting on much. I don't think its on TWC, however.

I like LW on 36.2.

I am also loving the WTVI channels that I can now pickup.

With WCCB starting up MeTV, and talk of AntennaTV also, OTA is looking better and better.

If WMYT ever starts coming in, I will be a happy camper.

I rarely (if ever) discuss content. As Trip knows, my interest in television is almost exclusively technical (excepting sports).

As long as Ion retains the rights to Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas", quite possibly one of the five finest films ever made ("Citizen Kane", "Lawrence of Arabia", "The Godfather I & II" and "Judgment at Nuremberg" are in my personal best list), count me glad to have an Ion affiliate here in Dallas. Their occasional airing of this (next on 19 FEB 2011) classic justifies the existence of Ion, IMHO. I forgive their endless airing of infomericials since the saga of Henry Hill more than atones for all the juicers, weight loss schemes, vacuum cleaners, knives and other items they hawk.

If they were ever to get the rights to, say, "Donnie Brasco" and "Casino" and a Nielsen meter were to appear at my house, Ion might very beat ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC combined during that rating period.

Ion is on Dish Network. I've never seen anything on it that I would be interested in watching. While it wouldn't be my first choice as a subchannel in Charlotte, it would be better than nothing. I wish Capital broadcasting would sell its channels to someone who would actually do something with them.

I think Capital does pretty well with WJZY/WMYT. The problems with the CW and MY have definitely not helped them--I think they were prety flush with WB and UPN. I think WJZY was one of the top UPN affiliates in the country. Of course, the digital transformation didn't help themeither since both of their digital channels are seriously shortspaced--rather ironic since WRAL was THE HD pioneer. Maybe one of the stations will break out with Antenna TV, and adding a Spanish subchannel in CHarlotte is a no-brainer.

The TiVo has been ordered. ME-TV coming to 18-3 pushed me over. Looking forward to all the great old shows, some of them are rather rare. A few of them I haven't seen since their first run. TV Land and Nick-at-Night don't run many of the old shows anymore.

So who is bringing Antenna TV to town? Can't say there is anything I want to see on 36-LW.

This is what I think the sub-channel count looks like in Charlotte so far:
  • 3.2 - This
  • 9.2 - AccuWeather
  • 14.2 - RTV*
  • 14.3 - TUFF*
  • 18.3 - ME (~Feb 1)
  • 36.2 - Living Well
  • 42.2 - MHz Worldview
  • 42.3 - Create
  • 55.3 - The Word
  • 58.2 - PBS Kids
  • 58.3 - UNC Explorer

* Listed 14.2 & 14.3 (WHKY) which claims to be the Charlotte affiliate for these channels but from a practical standpoint 95% of Mecklenburg county residents won't be able to pick up these channels without an expensive antenna setup and/or a lot of luck.

46.2 is a repeat of 46.1 64 does not appear to have an operating sub-channel.

Feb.1 has arrived but 18.3 is still weather-radar as of 8:00 AM. Come on fellows, throw the switch!

Yahoo's channel schedule already switched 18.3 to Me-TV, while TitanTV has Me-TV's schedule starting at noon today. If Titan is right, I'll miss the first episode of Cannon (11:00 AM) that I have set to record. Bummer...

Sorry, but you're gonna miss Cannon..the launch will be delayed UFN due to some contractual issues beyond our control that have arisen with the programmer. Plus, we're still installing the "switch"..

we're waiting, hope those contractual issues can get resolved soon!

the lineup on ME-TV looks great!

on a related note, your weather broadcast on 18.3 is BY FAR the best one around. even when it was just the radar and NOAA audio it was the most useful weather subchannel in both CLT and GSO markets. I guess TW will only have it on their digital tier, which means standard cable and OTA viewers will lose it on our tv. we'll miss it.

For those of you interested in the revolution taking place in Egypt, WTVI/Worldnet is apparently showing Al Jazerra English on 42.2.

In certain time blocks. http://www.mhznetworks.org/news/271/

Things like this remind me why I love MHz Worldview. I am still upset they pulled it from free-to-air satellite, though it's possible to get the 24/7 Al Jazeera feed from the same satellite MHz Worldview used to be on.

add 30.2--The South Carollina Channel (includes many Create programs plus classic SCETV productions).
30.3--PBS World

Geeze once again they dangle the carrot. The same thing happened with 55 and RTV. We never got it, since it went to WHKY instead. Why is this so hard to make happen? Hey we geezers want to see our shows!

Since I have my antenna connected to my Dish Network sat receiver, it adds the OTA schedules to the satellite program guide and it now indicates the ME television schedule for 18.3. Hawaii 5-O is supposed to be on as I type this, but I guess the contract dispute means we will be getting weather for a while.

Yea, we think so too..It's a weather service and not an ad / promo channel disguised as weather.....Good News tho..It will still be available via TWC with basic cable via clear QAM...and on WCCB Mobile on Channel 18-11

I was just thinking about the "contractual issues" could it be for example a show like "Cheers" has a syndication agreement with station "B" and M*A*S*H has a syndication agreement with station "S". Could these stations object to this network airing shows they have rights to? From what I know the stations don't have to air these shows or perhaps they air them as some odd time. They still can lock up the rights to them for OTA broadcast. Is that the issue?

I am glad that WCCB has decided to do something more useful with their subchannel space and I do see some a few good shows. However after looking at the ME schedule, I notice that a lot of the programs are those that have been re-run endlessly for the last 20-40 years in some cases. They should drop anything that has been on nick & TV land as I was hoping for more of a selection of lesser known shows.

You can't please everyone...no matter what you do someone won't like the choice. Amazing how some people gripe about something that is free.

I was expressing an opinion of a broadcast schedule that I have seen of a still non-existent network in Charlotte. I did say that I thought it was good WCCB was attempting to make the move and I did say there were some good shows IMO too. Did you miss that part? As for the free part, I will note that WCCB is making use of the public's airwaves to make money so let's not go there.

I would hope the negative feedback on parts of the schedule would be taken from the viewpoint of what a single viewer thinks of what is being broadcast. I honestly think shows such as the Beverly Hillbillies should be given a rest for a decade or so. This is my opinion and I do think that everyone is entitled to one. Maybe you guys don't care much on what the viewers think, that is up to you, but I don't think you put your station in much positive light by making it personal.

We have nothing to do with what is scheduled on MeTv..that is all handled by Wiegel. So it is what is it is. And it's not personal..It's business.

You made it personal when you accused me of griping. However if this is what you really meant then I can accept this. I had incorrectly assumed the network might be wiling to take input from their affiliates. I guess this was a bad assumption on my part.

In any case I appreciate what you have shared with us on the matter.
