Probably cheaper than acquiring syndication. WVLT wouldn't be the first station to have done this.

Why not just put it on a new 8-3 station?
Pulling the syndie material from 8.2 probably save WVLT a bundle of cash, unless it's all sent over to 8.1 as fill material. 8.3 may be coming in the future for yet another diginet.

They're not pulling it all. Zap2It's schedule goes to 9/5 now and 8.2 will only be AntennaTV between the hours of 11PM and Noon, meaning only overnights and mornings. The rest of the time is either syndicated shows or MyNetworkTV.

Antenna TV had earlier stated that their service would wrap around My Network TV. But to not air Antenna TV service from noon to 8 pm is a shocker. The viewing public will cry foul, and the local affiliate will gradually yield, IMO.

I generally don't watch a lot of WATE except for a few shows and maybe a college football game here and there. I have noticed the last few times I have watched something, and they switch to local commercials, the picture quality is just awful. Looks like an overly compressed video you'd see online somewhere.

Are you watching WATE-6 via OTA, cable (which company), or satellite (which company)?

I'm watching on DirecTV. The commercials for network programming are fine. It's the local ones that get jacked up/

Still seeing video issues with 6. I guess I need to watch it OTA to see if I see the same issues. But it looks pretty crappy most of the time.

10-4, 10-4, 10-4. No, it's not Broderick Crawford, but Quest, a new diginet will be coming to WBIR 10.4 near the end of January. You may see a test loop of what the network will be offering before the January 29th launch date. Not all markets are expected to be ready by the launch.

My station, WATE, is adding COZI TV as our new 6.4 sub-channel tomorrow (January 23rd).

However, our chief engineer is making some adjustments in our back end, so after we put it on the air, everybody is going to have to rescan their TV sets to find all of our channels.

Cable systems will have to make some adjustments as well, so there may be some angry phone calls here at my station tomorrow.

Does that mean the picture quality on 6 is going to become even worse? It's already one of the worst in the area.

I see that Nexstar (owner of WATE) is in another dispute with yet another provider. This time it's DirecTV. It's no big loss during the summer.

A new sub-channel will be landing soon in Knoxville, DABL, the lifestyle network startup from CBS, has affiliated with LPTV station K45DF. The network will air on 45.3. Programming will draw from the libraries of Martha Stewart, Emeril Lagassee, and others. The network is set to launch on 9 September, but not all affiliates may be up and running on that date.

WTNZ has moved to ch 15 on the WVLT/WKOP tower. The signal is dramatically weaker than other stations with it dropping out during the daytime hours. The ch 34 reception was much better. They are definitely not replicating their original coverage area.

Is anyone still getting WVLT via OTA? They updated something last week and told people with an antenna to rescan. I have done that and can't get any of their channels.

Two Knoxville anniversaries occur during October. WATE-6 came on the air on 1 Oct 1953, while WTSK-26 signed-on 18 Oct 1953. WATE still operates on channel 6 with the same call letters. WTSK changed call letters several times over the years, as well as changing channels from 26 to 8. In 1973, while employed at WTVK-26, it was suggested to me to put together an anniversary show about the history of the station. A quick look around, and not much history could be found. WTVK was a station on a tight budget, being operated by young ones, some still in high school. The idea of a show was scrapped for lack of material.

Here's the broadcast log for the first day of operation WTSK-26, from 18 October 1953.
