I looked at rabbitears again and it looks like WTXF is scheduled to move from RF 42 to RF 31 in Roxborough in 2019 for the repack. The antenna that does NOT serve your direction is at the antenna location that they plan to use for RF 31 about June 2019. Perhaps they had temporarily switched to transmitting on RF 42 on that antenna to check out their coverage (which apparently sucks to the southwest due to the side-mounted antenna). So when they switch to 31 next year you'll probably lose them again for a month or two. Leasing two different tower spots allows a station to use one antenna while the other is being replaced, so I suspect they'll ultimately keep the omnidirectional real estate for the final 31 antenna (since I see the FCC license on the 31 antenna that doesn't serve the SW expires on 08/02/2019, the same date the repack is to be completed). My guess is that it'll be an interim antenna while they replace the main antenna. You can see that this repack is costing stations big construction and equipment bucks; FOX is no-doubt kicking in to remain (relatively uninterrupted) in the Philly market; the FCC is kicking in some reimbursement funding too. Hopefully when it all settles out later next year, they'll be back to omnidirectional on 31. This is all conjecture on my part; if you really want to know what's going on you'd need to have a beer or three with the station engineer!

The good news is that no other channels will be sharing 31 (PAX is moving off of 31 during the same repack cycle); WTXF has more than enough subchannels already. June to August 2019 should be fun because none of this is likely to work correctly the first time. Keep your finger near the rescan button

I've now lost WFMZ - it was coming in perfectly since the digital transition and now - poof - gone. Forever?

Depends...
If you were getting WFMZ on RF channel 46 from the Lehigh Valley, they are now channel sharing on RF channel 9 and you may need to just re-scan, or perhaps add a VHF-HI antenna if you don't already have an antenna that can tune the VHF-HI band.

If you were getting WFMZ on RF channel 45 from Roxborough, it's still on the air on 45 with virtual channels 69.1 thru 69.4. You can also get H&I (69.3) and RetroTV (69.4) on WDPN (WFMZ-owned) 2.4 and 2.5, but since they are on RF channel 2, you most certainly would need a VHF-LO capable antenna for that.

Did something happen to channel 57.1 CW ?
I lost it recently. I tried re-scanning several times and it doesn't show up.

Ok here in Lower Bucks this morning. Lost on all sets? Try a manual scan on RF 32 if you can.

It is back today. one antenna, two TVs. Both lost it for about a week. After scanning again today it is back on both TVs. It is the weakest channel that I receive. Maybe the wind and the nearby trees were causing the trouble. Thanks for the replies!

Just checked 57.1 - it seems like the signal has dropped 20 dB or so since the last time I checked it.

Hmmm .... WPSG (57.1) has gone from poor to undetectable here in Lansdale - anyone else having issues with this channel?

Case in point, I checked my logs and back in July, I was receiving that channel with a SNR of ~29dB (through a bunch of trees!), now (with leaves fallen) I cannot get a lock on it.

I thought the Hopper 3 was a satellite receiver?

It is but Dish has a dual-tuner OTA module that plugs into one of the USB ports on the unit.

Just for fun, I ran a tvfool report. It shows my strongest station is 6.1, which generally gives people apoplexy (I get it moderately well, but not great); I should get 2.1, which I don't; it doesn't show 10.1 or 12.1, which I do get.
What gives?

What are you using for an antenna?

Sorry, don't remember the model, but it's a full-sized outdoor antenna in my attic.
It's working fine; it's the report that doesn't make any sense.

To diagnose your problem it is important to know your antenna model since many antennas are not designed to operate in the low-VHF band. Being in the attic also can raise difficulties because of the susceptibility of channel 2 to nearby interference.

I'm not having a problem; I just don't understand why I'm (still) watching channels 10 and 12 and they're not on the report.

Last,

Sorry, I thought you were lamenting over the fact that you can't receive 2.1. I was just trying to help with that.

Instead of tvfool, try www.rabbitears.info to see if it is giving you the same results for 10.1 & 12.1.

Back to 2.1 & 6.1, I am about the same distance from the 2.1 tower as you, but in a 2edge zone (not a LOS site as you). Using a dedicated low-VHF antenna in my attic, I receive both 2.1 and 6.1 very well (6.1 with a 30 dB SNR and 2.1 with a 26 dB SNR) - no amp, no filters needed.

Thanks.
rabbitears shows (if I'm reading it right) 2 and 12 both out of Wilmington, but 2 is grayed out, whatever that means.
I'm getting 6 adequately; 2 doesn't even show up on the scan.

Unfortunately Michael, TV Fool has not been updated in about three years. Also, a number of TV stations (like channels 10 & 12 in Philadelphia) are missing from the database. Fortunately, the guy (Trip in VA on AVS Forum) that runs www.rabbitears.info is working on a "Strength Search" tool that will make a good replacement. Right now it is hard to find on his website, but he let me know that he will eventually perfect it and put a link to it on the homepage of his site.

As for your problems with channels 2 & 6, your attic antenna might not have any VHF-Lo elements. It could also be some local interference from some electronic device messing with your signal. It doesn't take much for a VHF-Lo ATSC signal to go poof on you.

I was there for the first time for the post, above.
Thanks for the info.

Since the "db datecode" on my tvfool report was 2018..., I assumed it was current. Apparently, not.

I've seen Trip in VA around. I wish him luck with the implementation; I can't imagine the headaches involved.

It's here: https://www.rabbitears.info/search.php

Needs work, but should function well enough. Choose the TVStudy Mode, and you must put in an address or it will just provide a list of stations within the given distance and not actually do a strength prediction. As indicated, it's a work in progress.

Grr, the geocoder didn't work so it didn't do the strength prediction anyway. If you PM me with your address or coordinates, I'll put it together for you.

FWIW, this is how those numbers correspond to my measurements from the HDHomerun config.
Many thanks, again.

WCAU was down

I'm curious why WCAU was off-air for several hours this evening. Just came back up at 9:30PM.
