As far as the Nexstar buyout of Tribune...I'll be able to easily see what they end up doing to their "new" stations in NY, LA & Denver, since I get all of them on my DISH Superstation pkg...as well as their Chicago station WGN (the actual, local version) as I get it on DirecTV. NOT looking forward to this...but I guess it's (a lot) better than if Sinclair had got them!

Has anyone heard any news of Retro TV coming back to the Chicago area?
Thank you in advance for your response.

Help with picking an antenna?

Hello,

We've just purchased a new TV and would like to try to get OTA TV working. We're in Addison and have a two-story home with the new TV on the second floor. TVFool shows a lot of channels in line-of-sight within 20 miles of me (but line of sight also means it's the back of the house, where the TV is in the front of the house). I'm trying to figure out what indoor antenna to buy and am of course confused by the variety available as well as the sometimes dubious claims for range (150 miles range for $14.99 seems sort of optimistic). This seems to be an area thick with snake oil.

I simply don't know what I need to make this work well. Should I get an amplified antenna or non-amplified? Flat to place on wall facing transmitter towers or a stand-up "omnidirectional" type? We do have a couple of spots where a stand-up antenna could be placed, a bit more limited on the wall hanging models due to existing decor.

Does anyone have recommendations for make and model that they have success with at a similar distance from the transmitter locations?

I'm considering items like the below:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RFLGH5E..._t1_B00RFLXC1G

This one looks "too good to be true":
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HB9Y8S7...detail_0?psc=1

Or perhaps just rabbit ears?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075352NG3..._t1_B000HKGK8Y

Literally weeding through all of the antennas available on Amazon is giving me a headache.

post your tvfool please as noted in the sticky that says "please read before posting"
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/45-lo...e-posting.html

For antenna issues of ANY kind. Even if you can't possibly imagine location mattering, do this ANYWAY: Go to TVFool.com and include a LINK ..I repeat.. a LINK to your TVFool report. Please use street addresses and not lat/lon. Most of us don't have time to go plug that in and see where you are. Your exact address will not display when you use a TVFool link. Plus, with a link, we can click on stations to get more information. Can't do that with an image.

If you don't do this, you're going to be asked to, anyway, and that costs time. No two points in the US are exactly the same, so the answer to nearly all antenna questions will be different in different locations.. even those that may only be a mile apart.

Your first link to the "50 mile radius" (ha!) antenna might do the trick, but with being inside a house and on the "wrong side", which will produce a lot of signals bouncing off the walls ("multipath"), this will be a challenge. I say get that antenna, but use with caution and make sure you save the receipt. I will say I'm not very optimistic for great reception...

I'll try it, it's not a lot of money for the experiment. Amazon is pretty good about returns, and I found a model with a 20' cable - a few feet of coax extension may actually let me put it on the "good" wall if I need to (and if I can conceal the cable well enough s the wife acceptance factor comes into play for that).

Thanks!

I think 99.9% of those 'flat' antennas are made by the same Chinese factory....

I once tried one of those when I lived in Schaumburg after the apartment complex I lived in took down the antenna's on the buildings (I had GREAT reception with that). I had an east-facing patio door right next to the TV. I couldn't get anything to work.

WRJK Channel 22. I used to be able to get these channels in Mt Prospect. According to a post on another local message board, the signal is now pointed Southwest from Willis Tower and does not reach its city of license which is Arlington Hts. Why would they point the signal the wrong way? One of the subchannels is running a new news channel I’d be interested in checking out.

I believe the transmitter went down on Sunday. I've performed scans on Sunday and this morning. No signal was found.

Hey everyone! Can anyone recommend an OTA antenna installer for the western suburbs? I'm out here in Sugar Grove, and I have an existing antenna on the roof that is probably about 15 years old, and is a powered StealthAntenna installed with my Voom HD satellite service way back when. it has served me pretty well over the years, but has recently been dropping out quite a bit on many channels. I'm ready to just upgrade to a better antenna, but don't want to be the one climbing on the roof to do it.

Assuming they're still there and in business (they were last year) Antenna Installation Service right there in Sugar Grove. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. I contacted them and a couple others, and I think I'm going with Nick from Nicel Technology. He was much more inexpensive then the others and sounds like a good guy so far. He suggested a couple items and I'm going to purchase them myself. Likely going with the following items unless someone has a better suggestion. I want a new antenna and a pre-amp, as about 45 miles out I need all the help I can get. These seem like they'll work...
  • Winegard Outdoor HDTV Antenna VHF UHF 45 Miles (HD7694P)
  • Winegard Boost XT 20dB Pre-Amp for Outdoor HDTV Antennas (LNA-200)

WJYS now added 62.9 HSN, and is in true widescreen. That now makes 3 stations in Chicagoland carrying HSN, W25DW-D 25.1, WCPX 38.5, & now WJYS 62.9.

MNTV programming will move back into it's normal 7-9 prime-time slot...since both this station & MNTV are owned by FOX, it only makes sense.
Since CW prog only took up 2 hours of prog Sun-Fri, I don't think it'll be that much of a stretch for FOX to fill the void...

At the moment, 62-10 is mirroring 62-1.

WRJK-LD New Addition

New addition to WRJK-LD 22.4 FN/X - First Nation Experience. I believe it had aired before on WYCC 20.2 before the frequency was sold at auction. It seems that the station has one channel open at 22.7. I certainly hope that they would consider bringing back Retro TV which aired there previously. If not then, possibly WPVN-CD could add it to their channel 24.3

Has channel 66 done anything with power recently? I have noticed that I have not been able to lock at all to LAFF on 66.2 for the past couple of days. However, every other channel is coming in very strong. I used to have 66.2 coming in at the 6-7 out of 10 bars on my tuner, now it is 1-2 and I get no signal very consistently.

I am wondering if the leafing of the trees has now given you multipath. This happens to me with WJYS-62 when the trees leaf out...and that just happened in the last week.
