Hmmmm. Possibly. Would a different antenna fix that? Or am I just stuck with the leaves?

Possibly. What antenna do you have now? If it's something like a ChannelMaster 4228, probably not, unless you can move or adjust it.

While I have no idea why you're having issues with ABC 7 (It's fine at my house) If you're anywhere near Plano I can tell you why you lost reception on the 48 series channels. After many months of being shut down the Nelson's (WSPY Radio) have again fired up their silly poor quality tv stations (WSPY-LD) on real frequency 32 and 18. They show up as 32.257 and 18.257. The video quality is awful (rolling lines) and the audio show up as being mpeg and the station operating on frequency 32 is blocking the same frequency that channel 48 uses (frequency 32.) So, the station from Chicago and the station from Plano are cancelling each other out. I do know the folks at Weigel (channel 48's owners) are not happy about the situation.

Yeah i'm in Plano North side lakewood springs. They did just throw up a new cell tower by the menards DC also and it's active. I did order an LTE filter so when that comes hopefully that helps some. Thanks for the heads up about the other station being active it's driving me crazy.

You're welcome. Yeah, I'm just as frustrated as you are about the situation. I can't understand how two stations can be allowed on the same frequency so close together.

Installed LTE filter today and signal is perfect again except those cbs 48 channel but you explained that. so it's that new cell tower that was messing things up.

What's the news on WJYS/ WEDE?
WJYS has 62-10 with MCTV.
Retro Tv has 34.2 WEDE as an affiliate, but there is no 34.2 reading?

During this time of the year through most of the spring/summer months I lose WGN 9 almost every morning anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours. It's usually back to normal by 10:00 AM. Sometimes it even happens on WLS 7. I have also seen it happen now and then in the evening. I would suspect (although I may be wrong) some sort of atomospheric or tropo conditions as the cause.

It looks like the rest of the Phase 8 stations (WWME, WCPX, WGBO & W40CN) have requested to move to Phase 6.

Should their requests get the greenlight from the FCC, this would make all of the stations move around the same time in the fall. FCC already granted WLS's request to move from 8 to 6 earlier this year.

The Courttv.com website reports WGN will carry Court TV as of November 1, 2019 on channel 9.3. No word on what will happen to This TV, which is currently airing on 9.3.

I doubt This TV is going off the air in Chicagoland. Tribune Broadcasting owns too much of a stake in it!

There's no one size fits all when it comes to OTA reception...

It must have been another batch of transmitter maintenance.
Both channel 26 and channel 38 were out last night.
I noticed that around 1AM this morning channel 2s' signal wasn't registering at all through our OTA DVR's tuner, but somehow it was barely coming through our TV's own built in tuner. Wonder if that was related somehow?

Does that mean that all the Chicago stations will be on their new channel frequencies? Or were there others that were beyond phase 8? (I assume there are more than 8 phases)

There are ten phases altogether. But the Chicago full-power & class-A LPs are on Phase 6 & 8. The four remaining Phase 8 stations requested to move to Phase 6. Their reasoning is that so viewers won't have to do another rescan in the Spring. Should the FCC grant their request, then all of the major stations in town can switch over in unison in the fall (likely mid-October). But if not, then those four stations would have to wait until the Spring of next year to switch.

And this doesn't count the regular low-power stations (ie WSPY, W25DW, WDCI-LD, etc.). No telling when they'll have to switchover.

Thanks for this detailed info! Appreciate it.

One other question - has WCIU divided it's bandwidth differently over the last month? I feel like 26-2, the UToo, looks to be more clear recently. I know 48-1 is HD, but 26-2 is just 16:9 SD, but looks a lot better than it was about a month ago..

Actually, I might have answered my own question. I went to another TV in the house that is newer, and it says 26-2 is being transmitted in 16:9 720p HD. So it looks like 26-1 and 26-2 are both HD now and I can't tell a difference between them. They actually both had the same infomercial on and it looks identical in terms of bits being allocated to both channels. I have a feeling this change is due to the fact that 26 will become the CW network and The U programming is getting moved to 26-2.

Tribune Media (controlled by Sinclair Broadcasting) owns both WGN TV, Antenna TV and This TV. I believe either they will add a sub-channel or take over TBD (9-4) for Court TV (owned by Scripts)

Sinclair has never controlled Tribune, that got squashed long ago, it's now going to be Nexstar:

Rumor has it that Tribune will be parting ways with This TV in the fall. (November 1st, exactly 6 years since the network transitioned from Weigel's ownership). It appears that Tribune's O&O stations carrying the network will replace it with Court TV on that date, particularly in markets that don't already have a Court TV affiliate. The Court TV affiliation is expected to carry over once the Nexstar merger has been approved.

The future of This TV however is unclear at this point. It will either transfer over to another owner (likely Sinclair as both them & MGM operate Comet & Charge), or it will shut down entirely. I'm leaning towards the latter as it appears that This TV hasn't gained any new affiliates in the last few years and many viewers have complained about repetitive movies. Plus, seeing that the Tribune station near me (WJW/8) never acquired This TV after the last station carried it back in 2015 almost tells me that Tribune doesn't really care about the network anymore. WJW would have been the obvious choice as they've been carrying Antenna TV on their .2 sub since their launch, but instead they choose to carry Comet & Charge on their .3 & .4 subs in December 2017.
