Crazy impressed by the HDR of Extraction. Nearly perfect, reference quality stuff. Great sound too.

Interesting. I watched it via an ATV4K and had no HDR and a generally underwhelming picture. Will check again later. I know Bezos and Apple like to play hard to get with each other.

I did not get HDR on my ATV4K either. I switched to my Fire Stick 4k and I got HDR. This happens from time to time with Amazon content. If you call about it and push, they fix it.

I liked it, had some laughs, decent enough story. I didn’t have any expectations though so it didn’t have to live up to anything for me. It’s not perfect, that’s for sure, but enjoyable enough (for me) for a “light” comedy. I can see it not being everyone’s cup of tea, all depends on what you want out of the show.

Netflix added The Disaster Artist in HDR. Maybe this is a trend and everything Netflix gets from A24 here on out will be in HDR.

Penny Dreadful 5-31 episode on ATV via Apple TV Channel, UPDATE: It dropped

I was unable to stream the 5-31 episode (6) of Showtime's Penny Dreadful City of Angles, to view through the Showtime Channel in 4k DV on ATV4k. Earlier episodes were fine!

Anyone else have this problem? As of now the episode is still not available to be streamed on the Apple TV Channel, though earlier episodes are able to be streamed.

Other Showtime series continue to stream fine so it seems to be this one episode only.

Finally, to be clear, this issue is for streaming through the Apple TV Showtime Channel NOT the Showtime App on ATV (which I don't have).

Any comments. Thanks!

**And of course after I watched it last night on the LIVE Showtime Feed the 4k DV version is now available....

Watched some of The Goonies via ITunes, reminds me a lot of Jaws. It won’t win any awards for HDR, but colors are benefited and while maybe a tad “soft” PQ has been improved from what I remember if it. If you’re a fan of the movie I think you’ll be happy.

Extraction is a guy aggression video about rescuing a child. It takes place in the extreme poverty of Bangladesh.

The same criticism as The Fight Club can be applied here, "The awful truth is that Fight Club jettisons its sense of humour 60 minutes in, and, so far from satirising the tiresome "crisis of masculinity" stuff sloshing around the airwaves either side of the Atlantic, the film simply endorses it, with Tyler presented as a deeply interesting Zeitgeist anti-hero."

However, The fight scenes are well choreographed and the unlikely repeated victories can make one suspend skepticism. Extraction kept my attention and the video quality was top rate. It is a adrenaline packed satisfying action movie.

So, if you enjoy this sort of thing it is an good use of your Netflix subscription.

My prayers have been answered... just saw PITCH BLACK is coming to UHD on Aug. 18th in DV! Hope Chronicles of Riddick and Riddick follow soon after!

PS, I just jumped over to the dark side and bought a 77 C9. This is how the Long Night episode of Game of Thrones is meant to be watched! My biggest concern was the oled will be too dim for my taste coming from a 1600 nits Samsung, I was happily proven wrong 🙂

Even the HD episodes of Game of Thrones looks incredible on the C9. I could easily tell on those nights I watched part of an episode on the C9 and then moved over to the bedroom to finish on my LCD TV, the difference was extraordinary.

Well I did go back to finish the first episode. After talking to a co-worker that said it got a little better. And I'm on episode seven now. And it did get a little better. But it is certainly nothing great.

It's definitely one of those shows that is low on my list and I need to be in the mood to watch it.
And last night I was in the mood. So I enjoyed it more than when I originally tried watching the first episode. Not sure if I'll be in the mood to watch it tonight though.

I though that title sounded familiar. My GF and I saw it in the theater earlier this year. We really liked it.

EDIT: I see it's also only $3.99 to own the UHD version on Vudu. That is a steal!

The Silence of the Lambs is the don't miss current offering on Netflix. It is a compelling, tightly scripted murder mystery/psychological thriller. Even if you have seen this before it has been snipped here and there to make it leaner and quicker moving. The audio and video is the best presentation I have seen. All the actors are superb but Jodie Foster as FBI agent in training Starling and Anthony Hopkins as the Psychiatrist Hannibal the cannibal Lecter steal the show.
