Watching IMAX Journey to Space, Ghostbusters 1&2, Startrek etc all weekend.

Haven't posted in a while.

Watching HDR DTS:X Independence Day.

Dear God it's amazing. Better than any Atmos mix or anything I've watched in the last 2 years.

Tons of overhead effects and very objectional.

On video front there's very little film grain unlike the BS Ghostbusters releases (who's atmos was nonexistent and HDR was trash).

Buy it!!!

Marantz NR1607, Crown XLS1500 (2 in bridge mode for mains)
JTR 210RT, JTR Cap S2
Samsung 78” Curved LED 4K (KU7500)
Oppo UDP-203 UHD HDR BD player, AppleTV Gen4, Synology DS216play
STOKED Home Theater Build

If all the studios (the ones making money with movies) could do what 'Journey to Space' can do with their full package, they would make less money by not being able to double and triple dip us...even quadruple.

Since these aren't released until tomorrow, how did you watch them? Are they all on Vudu or something?
Thanks.

Ray
If you order them to ship to your home or office sometimes these discs come a day earlier as these are often shipped before the actual in-store release date.
FYI, you won't get DTS:X from VUDU, you'll be lucky if you get Dolby Digital Plus if your setup allows it.

It's the new immersive audio standard. Gravity is dethroned.
Insane immersion. Benchmark stuff. No demo time stamps Cus it's the whole movie.

Keeping on topic. The HDR is....well it's a 20 year old movie. Nothing special

Just watched Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

The colors are excellent. The hdr grading is very good. The picture has a 3d look at times with great dimension of objects and shiny objects and costumes. Resolution is good and picture is clean. Reminds me alot of a couple amazon hdr shows, Casanova mixed with Man in the High Castle. Outdoor scenes looked spectacular at times. Indoor scenes sometimes looked good but my tv bloomed alot with all the candles and dim scenes (just like with Casanova and High Castle). I think an oled tv would handle this movie alot better. Dolby soundtrack was good and super punchy at times. There was an unexpected gun shot at 1 point that was super loud and punchy and it scared the crap outta me lol

The movie itself was very slow moving at times. Not sure if I truly enjoyed it. If there's a sequel, I think it would be better than this one based on how it was set up.

Hdr grading seems to be getting better from the early stuff. Some of Those early sony and fox movies were very weakly graded imo.

Watched now you see me last night

Pretty poor transfer. Smearing of facial colors in some scenes. Not sharp. I know it's older but damn it was pretty bad.

I had to pop in the revenant after to make sure none of my settings were out of whack Nope was gorgeous lol

Love that the DTS-X Track is Great but i Hate the fact that i have to wait for Onkyo to update the firmware on my receiver before DTS-X is enabled. C'mon Onkyo what are you waiting on!

Ghostbusters 2 4k is on sale for $8.99 at Target!!!

The targets in my area show 1-2 in stock. I just placed an order online for in-store pickup to gaurantee the price. But i think it said shipping not available anyways. Also, best buy will price match this price.

http://www.target.com/p/ghostbusters...d/-/A-50918009

EDIT: others are saying that if you do in-store pick up, they will set aside the regular BD, and that it may be easier to just have best buy price match.

The minimum cost for UHD is $50 on http://timescapes.org/products/default.aspx

I know this is not a blu-ray or HDR and probably not suitable post for this forum, Please delete or move if required.
I just tried watching this title again yesterday and today on AIV and it would only stream in 1080p. I then contacted Amazon and they said the content provider had removed the 4k version and that she would remove it and issue a credit and then I could buy it again when it becomes available in 4k again. I said "No" as we don't know what the price will be when it becomes available again. So it's now on my account but I can't watch it in 4k? Can others check as well to see if that's the case for you as well?

I'll need to check mine. I had purchased the 4K version too when it was on sale. If it's only going to be available in 2K then i don't have much use for it. the 4K streamed version seemed similar to the 2k BD. So i doubt the 2k streamed version looks very good.

I just placed an order for in store pickup. I certainly hope they set aside the UHD version and not the 2K version. If I can get the UHD version for that price I will just return the one I have coming from Walmart. of course now the prices are only $1 higher than Walmart has them for. Yesterday they were all $6 more.

EDIT: It's showing that it's ready for pickup already. And it shows that the store is out of stock now. So I guess I'll find out tonight if they pulled the UHD version. If they do try to give me the wrong version hopefully I can get a gift card out of them for wasting my time.

I don't think tyrok posted this here, but best buy is supposed to be setting up a nice looking 4k shipper stand today, it's basically a 4k rack holding all the movies. It is supposed to be setup in the home theater department. Getting reports that some have it out and some dont. He said it'll be out for at least 4 months once they get it set up.

Even at $8.99 it still isn't worth it for me. Only the original is worth watching to me.

The targets in my area show 1-2 in stock. I just placed an order online for in-store pickup to gaurantee the price. But i think it said shipping not available anyways. Also, best buy will price match this price.

EDIT: others are saying that if you do in-store pick up, they will set aside the regular BD, and that it may be easier to just have best buy price match.
Yes, that's exactly what happened to me. I placed the on-line order for pick-up and when I went over they had the "Mastered in 4k" blu-ray version for me. I didn't have the virtual number credit card number so they could only give me cash back. I then went to BB which is right next door and got a price match. But better yet, BB priced matched both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II for $8.99 EA. When she gave me the total I had to ask if that was the cost for both of them.

Watched the Martian Extended Cut today. Jesus it looks good. I think I read that the special effects were done in 5k, and the real stuff was done in 2k, with everything being mastered in 2k. It sure looked like it to me. The special effects looked insane, and most of the stuff on Earth looked pretty good. I hope we start seeing more stuff done in 4K.

Edit, attached a picture
The Best Buy in my area had that same 4K Stand up and it looks great, too bad its in the aisle next to the BD and DVD racks, but it is much better than the original display that is getting a bit ragged, as there are no new 4K discs are being filled up in it or replaced with additional stock.
In other parts of the "New Releases" section, 4K copies are mixed in right next to the BD and DVD versions, making it easy to see what is available in stock, too.
-I just hope this new 4K Stand is easier to find than it was, it was so far back in the store aisle near the Home Theatre section.
Maybe a topper on the rack itself would help, like a big "4K Movies" sign, it just didn't grab me at first, maybe it was just me.
