Yes. This has happened to several people I know, over a long period of time. They were all caught out without realising it until it was too late. Vudu is a despicable company for operating this way. Vudu knows exactly what this problem is and refuses to do anything to prevent it. All they have to do is require you to have an account before you can redeem anything. But no, that would help people.

Really? They let you redeem a UV code without an account? How the heck does that work? I didn't even think that was possible. Since without an account there is no way to associate the title to someoene

When I went to their website there was a giant "redeem code" field right in the middle of the screen. Being from Canada I didn't bother registering as there is a small disclaimer under the field that does say "offer valid in the U.S. only". I can't confirm if it would steal my could if I did enter it without having registered but part of me was tempted to test that!

It certainly has, many times, in the past. They steal the code, and only tell you after they've done it that you can't use their service. All they have to do is change their process to verify that you're in the right country before the redeem happens - problem solved.

Anyone know if Top Gun will be released on UHD HDR Blu-ray? I was thinking of jumping on the 3D version but wanted to check on this first.

A long time ago I remember reading a list of catalog titles that various studios have marked for possible HDR grading and this was one of them. No further info past that. So I'd say as of now do not expect it.

LG 65" B7A OLED, Samsung 55" JS9000, Sony 43" x800e, Denon AVR-X2200w 5.1.2, PS4 Pro, Nintendo Switch, Gaming PC(GTX 1080ti + 4.7Ghz 8700k), Sony UBP-x800, Philips BDP-7501, Oppo BDP-203, Nvidia Shield TV

Thanks for that, maybe one day I will have to double dip.

Pick up the 3D while they still exist. If Top Gun does come out with a 4K HDR vesrion, it will be an easy choice for a double dip, hopefully. The older titles have not been that great in 4K.

I've been approaching my collecting philosophy so far as 3D first because a) the format is disappearing and b) 4K discs are still very expensive. HDR is so very tempting, wish other studios would release like; Sony 4k/3d combo discs.

I select 3D first as well. I'd like to find a way to remux the UHD exclusive Atmos tracks with the 3D versions. Like I am able to do with Gravity.

I started doing the opposite choosing 4k first since 3D seems to be disappearing and my latest main display is a Vizio "P" series which is not 3D capable.

I love the P series. Have checked out the demo material on The HDR Channel on YouTube? Some great stuff, especially the 60FPS LG material!

Other than the codes in the packages, I believe streaming rights are a whole other ballgame with studios like MGM. Vudu lists Magnificent Seven as MGM, not Sony - even though I redeemed the code at Sony's UV redemption site for the UHD UV rights.

You know, I assumed it could since it essentially has a Chromecast Ultra integrated but I appear to be wrong. Even GoogleCast TVs need the Chromcast Ultra (bummer). That is a big WTF that you need to add a Chromecast to a GoogleCast TV!

I have the LG E6 and I have the Chromecast Ultra for YouTube HDR and DirecTV Now.

It's so odd to me that HDR is not supported on any TVs other than Samsung so far. Most odd is that HDR capable streaming devices like Roku, nVidia Shield, PS4, and Xbox One S still don't support it! Hell, the XB1S doesn't even display 60fps in the native YouTube app last I checked. I had to use the Edge browser to get 60fps. SMH

I'm not a huge Apple fan but I've become a big fan of the Apple TV 4. I am eagerly awaiting a 4k Apple TV with hopefully all relevant flavors of HDR supported. HDR is a bigger FusterCluck than home 3D at launch!

(P.S. I'm an audio guy who only adopted UHD {in Dec.} because of Atmos exclusives and HDR gaming. I was perfectly happy with 1080p Blu-ray.)

You're far better off downloading them from here, since unfortunately, the versions on YouTube have the wrong soundtracks. This loses much of the impact of the original clips. Especially if you're an audio guy

Yeah, when I first noticed MGM was releasing UHD on Vudu, I tried to look up and make sense of their complicated partnerships. They partner with Warner and Sony to release new movies, and those respective studios release the disc and digital. And I guess MGM can do their own digital with the new movies too as Magnificent Seven shows us. Then Fox owns the rights to release the back catalog on disc. But MGM keeps the rights to the back catalog on digital, hence Silence of the Lambs and Princess Bride on Vudu. At least, that's how I understand it.

Amazon has added Inferno and Passengers both HDR to the 4k movie section.

Amazon added season 2 of Hand of God in HDR on Friday.

And in a surprising move, Amazon also added Spectre 007 to the UHD prime section, though no HDR.

How do I identify what titles are in HDR from Google Play? Or are they all just 4k sans HDR10?

Hey does the X800 have the Sony Ultra App built in?

Yes, but we're talking about streaming rights.

Example: I have many Fox & Sony titles converted on Vudu via Disc2Digital and none of them are MGM titles - they don't allow it.

My opinions do not reflect the policies of my company

Does anyone know the story on why newer Sony UHD titles on Amazon aren't being included with Dolby Vision?

There are 10 "older" Sony DV titles and then all of sudden the newer releases are HDR10 only.

Oh, and I assume Amazon's UHD presentation of Billy Lynn is at 60 FPS? This one was slow to come over to Amazon for some reason, since they've been getting Sony UHD new releases to stream day one since Resident Evil Afterlife.
