The movie does have some great visuals. The 3D in theaters was fantastic, but I could tell it would probably look great in HDR. Kind of disappointed in the lack of 3D Blu-ray for it considering the 3D was so well done, but I might consider renting it in 4K at some point to check out the HDR. Didn't really care enough for the movie to buy it though.

I am a sucker for Luc Besson's work. I agree this isn't his finest effort, but I at least had fun watching it. That's all I ask from this kind of film.

True. I felt that Dane Dehaan was a terrible choice for that character. Movie would have been a lot better with someone else in his role. Also, the whole scene with Rihanna's character (about 30mins) could be cut and it wouldn't affect the movie's story in any way.

Total agreement regarding Dane DeHaan. Very mis-cast role. Rihanna's character was really more for entertainment filler rather than drive the story. While not necessary I did enjoy it. The biggest surprise for me was Cara Delevingne. I was not expecting much from her, but she was easily the best part of the film aside from the visuals.

How are the special features? I usually buy movies for iTunes Extra, regardless of how good the movie was or not.

Maybe some of this is on purpose and how they want the show to look, maybe some of it is due to the upscale... I don't know the reason but I'm not a fan of how it looks so far. Very disappointed there. Comparing a few scenes back and forth between the 1080p and UHD release you can see it's a bit brighter and maybe slightly sharper but it's not the upgrade it should be.

The show itself is pretty cool with an engaging story line and is very well acted. I have no complaints about that. The audio is pretty good too being Atmos and all.
I completely agree with your video quality analysis. It’s sort of shocking considering the show looked so good streaming on HBO. I was expecting a reference quality UHD disc, but instead it is not much better than the 1080p counterpart. I love the series so I’m still happy I own it, but it’s not the leap I was hoping for.

I still haven't looked at mine, but I'm glad that the UHD BD of Westworld was cheaper than the 2K BD.

I’m really liking the show. Especially the trippy repeats of each character’s day with the slight edits to various roles for each of the hosts etc. great sci-fi atmosphere.

Later on in the show there are more things happening outdoors that look a bit better. The explosions for example are much better than the 1080p version.

Agree. And if you own a TV prown to banding (like my ef9500), Westworld will make it pop! Looks as good or better in 1080 streaming on Vudu.

Vimeo now supports HDR10 HEVC. And unlike YouTube, they actually show a badge indicating the video has HDR. Unfortunately, like YouTube, I don't see a way to search for HDR yet.

It says it works on Apple products now. Hopefully support for Android/Chromecast and other apps are coming.

Right, I should have clarified that it shows a badge at all times, like on a desktop browser, identifying that it is an HDR video; not for just showing you are watching an HDR stream on an HDR-compatible device. This will at least help in finding actual HDR videos.

As I said, you can't search for them yet as far as I can tell. But when you do find one, it has an HDR badge. Here's the one they had in their press release:

I'm a long way behind in my backlog of film review podcasts so only recently listened to one where he was interviewed for the promotion of Valerian. He was in great spirits and there was a lot of interest from fans of the Fifth Element. He was good at answering listener questions - like "If you want a sequel to Leon, then just watch Leon again! He's dead, I can't make a movie about the plant!".

The best thing was that he finally, at long last, gave an answer to the massive plot-hole in Taken: Who's driving the boat?! (At the end of the film, Liam has killed a whole boatload of kidnappers, but the boat remains on its course, moving at quite a pace. One would imagine that any boat captain who was aware of the relentless slaughter happening on board would try to escape. Liam himself doesn't seem to want to investigate the bridge. If the boat is not being driven, it is going to crash.)
Spoiler!

They didn't mention it in their main blog post, but they also support HLG HEVC uploads. Which I believe means people with certain cameras like the Panasonic GH5, the Sony a7RIII, and other Sony high end camcorders can upload directly to Vimeo straight out of the camera with no editing, mastering, transcoding, etc...

Well, I believe we are talking about HDR10, which has been out forever. I was surprised that they had issues with static metadata in the firstplace.

Completely understandable, since this is a console first, and a media device second. All of their efforts were appropriately directed towards the gaming aspect.

As far as that other issue with elevated blacks on a certain HDR format, there's really no excuse for why it is still occurring.

Sure but the UHD BD playback was hyped a bit by their marketing team and when it didn't work correctly for so very long, and really still doesn't because of black levels...it's a problem and a very big one when you can buy UHD BD players for $200 now. A lot of people upgraded from launch day Xbox consoles because of the UHD playback or bought it instead of a PS4 for that usage and well...disappointment is all I can say to describe it. Did they at least fix the HDR bug for Netflix where HDR is on full time? PS4 still has this issue. Doesn't affect me as I use the Nvidia Shield for that.

What do you mean that UHD BD playback was bad for so long?
I've been using the One S as a UHD BD player since last October and never had a single issue. It was as good as if not better than the Phillips and Samsung player I had for a bit. Never worse.
The elevated black issue only occured in the last week of October and was fixed in the beta stream a couple of weeks ago.

The XB1X, XB1S, and PS4 pro all still have the netflix HDR issue.

I've been using the One S as a UHD BD player since last October and never had a single issue. It was as good as if not better than the Phillips and Samsung player I had for a bit. Never worse.
The elevated black issue only occured in the last week of October and was fixed in the beta stream a couple of weeks ago.

Not the black issue. Converting everything to RGB yet getting the colours wrong. See this post . Florian Friedrich's credentials are impeccable.

I see. But is it visible to the naked eye?
I have not been able to tell the difference when watching UHD BD.

Many discs wouldn't work for early adopters, bitstream support took forever, poor colors as compared to stand alone players (mentioned above), now elevated blacks and if what you said is correct, the fix isn't public which is just idiotic on Microsoft's part.

It could be for people with properly calibrated displays and have a discerning eye for it. Can't say everyone will but knowing it's not correct can be an issue for the OCD among us.

A few new Pre-orders have popped up over in Europe.

Jurassic Park 1, 2, 3. (1990s edition, jurassic world likely coming when part 2 comes out.

And a surprise movie, with a listed release date of April:

The Incredible Hulk (2008).
