IMO they should be far dimmer, no matter what type of screen tech is being used.

Yup, it’s the only thing that annoys me also. Especially when you’re watching something that’s predominantly dark, and all of a sudden, Bam! They really need to work on fixing the brightness of subtitles.

That’s another reason I like watching HDR movies on iTunes on my Apple TV 4K. I can customize the brightness and opacity of the subtitles. Works wonders. Others should take note.

That and the color detail. The 1080p version I watched a bit of to compare is pretty dreary looking.

Dunkirk was not as bright as let's say The Dark Tower, but it was beautifully shot overall.
I would like to see Hugo remastered. That movie had lots of close up facial shots and interesting backdrops!

This is what is so great about HDR. It gives such massively wider scope for different artists to create different things. Beautiful things can be done in so many different ways. And it's so early days too!

EDIT: Just to add, I'm working my way through the extras (on one of the Blu-Rays in the pack). I highly recommend them, especially if you're the type that normally doesn't bother. Lots of stuff about how Christopher Nolan aims for maximum realism - there's one part where he, knowing his history and uniforms, told an extra he'd threaded his shoelaces the wrong way! That made me proud . And as a Brit, of course the film was very emotional for me to watch at times. Those events were a key turning point in World War 2. Wikipedia has a good page on it when you have a spare 5 minutes.

It only got delayed to April 20, 2018 from February 2, 2018. Not as bad though as the first delay that pushed it from February 2017 to February 2018.

The last part of my original post points to color or wide color gamut.

Or more of a nice boost to color volume with 300 nits. I plan on picking up Dunkirk, at some point.

Got my eye on "IT" coming on the 9th.

For people buying It (2017) on UHD BD, according to this review it has Atmos, but defaults to DTS-HD, so make sure you go into the audio tracks and select Atmos (if you have an Atmos setup).

No specific mention of HDR yet, but I'll always assume hdr until confirmed otherwise.

Will we ever see JurassicPark1 in 4K and Atmos, those thumps would be blasting!
Also, Id love it if they did the Matrix trilogy, Pirates trilogy and the Hobit and LOTR trilogies in 4K! Just a wish list really I know Matrix one was already in the works... any updates on that?

I noticed a few new titles in HDR on streaming services I thought I'd mention. Most don't have 4k discs. FandangoNow has The Prestige, Braveheart, 2:22, and The World's Fastest Indian. iTunes and FandangoNow have Happy Death Day. Google Play and iTunes have Victor & Abdul. All three have The Snowman. And iTunes has Heat, Wolf Warrior 2, When the Bough Breaks, and Victor Frankenstein.

Two things I noticed about Terminator 2. First when it starts it claims to be a 3D version lol. Second it does not have immersive audio like I assumed. I thought we would get DTS:X.

That all said, the colors and detail are far and away better than any other version. The opening scene of the future war is incredible to me.

One of my top 5 action movies and never gets boring for me too. I thought it looked very good on UHD. Some small nitpicks with soft scenes around some of the CGI but it's a very good upgrade over the 1080p release(s).

Is there a way to tell if a FandangoNow title is 4K and not HDR? Looks like they have Limitless in 4K as well (can’t tell if it’s HDR).

I think that one is 4k SDR. Their site isn't very well organized. They don't seem to put HDR info on the individual titles. The only thing I see is that they have an HDR collection separate from their 4k collection.

The Cloverfield series release date was restored.

Also, looks like the USA will have hdr10 only for Bladerunner 2049, while other countries will get Dolby Vision disc's. 1st time this has happened.

They now have all the HDR titles in one place:

The other link on this page includes both HDR and SDR titles. They used to have all the SDR titles together which was better.
