You know, I’ve met Adam Sandler in person down here in FL. He lives in Boca Raton not far from me. He’s a tremendously nice guy for real but I think his latest movies are just bad. Something is missing that he had before.

So you didn't see Thor The Dark World or Iron Man 3 then?

The Incredible Hulk isn't a masterpiece, but it's a fine movie, and underrated imo, and honestly, I prefer this version of the Hulk over Ruffalo's. I still like Ruffalo, but Norton gave a better performance and his Hulk was more imposing and lifelike, whereas Ruffalo's feels more cartoony.

Thanks for info. On the fence with the Batmans. It's a head scratcher why Nolan doesn't like the new immersive audio codecs. These new 4K versions are only 5.1. Who am I kidding? I'll still buy 'em.

Altered Carbon looks awesome but I just couldn’t get into the story world after watching the first episode. I may give the second episode a try just because it looks so damn good.

It gets much better. Both visually and story line also. There's some surprise villains and quite a bit of great back story from when he was his original self, coming together the last few episodes for some good story.

4 episodes in and Altered Carbon is just not my bag (story/pacing/acting). However, I will finish it.

Also, I usually use the Dolby Vision Dark setting in a blackout room, but that was way too dim for Altered Carbon. DV Bright fixed it.

New iTunes title for the Master List: Hotel Deluxe is now in Dolby Vision.

Cool Blade Runner 2049 UHD would not load in my Samsung 8500s

This has never happened with any other title in the time we have had these BD players. The 4K, UHD disc would not load in two different Samsung 8500 BD players. (However, the Blu-ray Disc would play). We're gonna ask for a refund from Amazon, but has anyone here had a similar result? Very disappointing. We had a guest over for "movie night" and ended up renting this flick from Apple TV where we did not have an Atmos soundtrack, and did have streaming issues which affected the resolution throughout much of the movie. It was offered on iTunes/Apple TV in UHD and DV/HDR, so we opted to rent rather than play the Blu-ray Disc, which actually had an Atmos soundrack and probably would have been the better "second choice" for viewing this flick.

Well, Oppo did release a beta firmware update this month for their UDP-203/205 and one of the update notes said that it fixed playback issues with Bladerunner 2049. So maybe it's something that can affect any player. Maybe you just got a bad copy though, I had no issues playing it in either my Philips BDP-7501 or Sony x800. I also have an Oppo 203 but just received it yesterday so I really haven't done much playback with it.

Wow, that was it. Thank you! I manually updated our den machine and then tried Blade Runner 2049 and viola, it worked. Then I went to update the living room machine. Ironically, it must have updated automatically over night, because there was no update available and Blade Runner 2049 worked, now just hours after our failure of last night. Go figure. So now I guess we need to add check for update to our trouble shooting check list right before try a reboot. :-) Thanks again.

Lol well this disc is a little unique I think. The mastering was at 10,000nits for one which may play havoc with the software not knowing what to do with it.

I'm at half of the episodes now of Planet Earth II on Netflix and even though it's not HDR, I'm really enjoying it. The video looks like the demos we downloaded a while back but you can see them for 45 minutes or so.

So far my favorite has been "The Jungle" episode but they are all very good.

That's very odd, it's the BBC's flagship HDR title. The 4k Blu-Ray is HDR10. It looks fantastic and has been widely praised? Why would Netflix only show an SDR version? What a waste.

You are correct sir. HDR quality is about how well your display tone maps static metadata or ignores it and creates it’s own.

I would love to see Godfrey Reggio's Qatsi trilogy* released on 4k Blu-Ray.

Has anyone heard anything?

Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance (1982)
Powaqqatsi: Life in Transformation (1988)
Naqoyqatsi: Life as War (2002)

They would be a real feast for the eyes in HDR...

I'm not saying the display is at fault, I'm suggesting that a player seeing a max luminance value of 10,000 might simply think there is an error.

Watched the first 2 episodes of Altered Carbon and wow! Excellent use of HDR. Really helps that the aesthetic is very Blade Runneresque, with all the neon lighting everywhere.

Cloverfield 3 debuts on Netflix tonight. Not the trailer...the whole movie. Fingers crossed for HDR

Yes, it's in Dolby Vision, but I think it's only 1080p DV. I was watching an episode of Altered Carbon earlier and it was full 4k, so I don't think it's my connection.

I'm getting HD, as well. Not unusual for Netflix (there is anime DV in HD on Netflix).

Hopefully they add the 4K of it later.

I doubt we'll get in in 4k unless they release it on disc. I'm thinking it's a 2k DI. Shot on film. It was a Paramount production, not Netflix. But we're lucky they released it in DV.

Definitely bummed about the lack of 4K, but beggars can't be choosers. At least we got it in HDR. I actually re-signed up for Netflix tonight... going to watch tomorrow. I will cross my fingers that this eventually makes its way to 4K BD.
