Bought a few 4k titles from iTunes store ranges from $4.99 to $9.99. I am done with buying dvds hoping Apple soon figure out how to deliver the sound they way it should be.

I have seen a couple movies both ways and I feel that IMAX is brighter and more immersive because you feel closer to the action but they do t touch Dolby cinema for black levels, contrast, color, and audio. I saw ready player one both ways but that movie wasn’t really made for IMAX screens.

Seems like it depends on the film with Dolby Cinema. It was a great viewing experience this time if I had one negative I should have sit a few more rows closer. Thats why I like imax more immersive and resolution and color is great. The IMAX theater I go to has a huge screen and its closer if not the correct size Imax screen should be. Like I said Jurassic world FK is going to be must buy on UHD also because it was a fun movie and could be a reference disc if graded right! Island scenes should benefit from HDR.

I don't know if that's accurate. I definitely watched Chance in 4K towards the end of last year. Most likely they meant that most apps don't have 4K support, so the service doesn't focus on advertising that until they do. The apps that do likely still do for that programming. And as I said, I believe the webos app may have been updated to support it as well.

Me too, but I've found that I've been buying more and more UHD digital codes instead of the discs lately because they're so much lower in cost. I know the discs have better sound and video but in most cases the difference is indistinguishable to me anyway.

I can't believe this!!!

I'm currently watching some Vudu content on the Apple TV 4k and the front of the AVR reads "Dolby Atmos". I would never have believed that Apple would have made this feature available after all these years. Unfortunetely, DD+ stills reads as PCM. I thought that Atmos and DD+ were related so why would Apple provide Atmos but not DD+?

Atmos requires Bitstream and not a PCM soundtrack in order to work since the extra Atmos information is an additional metadata track that doesn’t transfer with a PCM stream.

That being said, Apple is certainly preparing for the day that Atmos does work properly. iOS 12 beta is in the hands of developers and should be available for free download sometime in September. That version will have specific Atmos support and some people are already reporting that a few movies from iTunes already have the proper information encoded in them.

When iOS 12 launches, all iTunes titles that could have Atmos soundtracks (ones you’ve seen on services like Vudu) will have proper soundtracks. But right now, iOS 12 beta isn’t fully baked yet and has lots of bugs. But it won’t be much longer (3 months). And I’m sure that apps like Vudu will be updated for proper working support.

Thanks for the info! Does that mean that DD+ can transfer with a PCM stream? Are we already getting DD+ on the ATV4K when watching content that has DD+ available?

I just noticed the top of the metadata spreadsheet now says "Sheet is retired. No additional titles will be added."

Why was it retired? Is somebody else maintaining a newer version from now on? I always found this super informative, so I don't want to see it stop being updated.

So it sounds like it's what I expected it would be. Only Atmos and PCM output. No other bitstreaming except for DD, where the ATV4K encodes to DD after decoding to PCM..

The Vudu UHD version of Rampage is now available.

Watched about 15 minutes of a major fight scene. It's sharp and clear, although from a 2K master. Reminds me of how San Andreas looks. Much of this movie reminds me of San Andreas and I feel like it can't be a coincidence. Nevertheless - Some disappointing results.

It's another film where the grading brightness and colors seems to miraculously change from shot to shot. It's like shots are graded independently with no regard for what an immediately preceding or following shot looks like. One shot looks like its during a bright sunny day then the following shot within the same scene looks like its a cloudy day or at dusk LOL. One light source may be a bright blinding yellow then cut to a different angle and it's a dull one. I've seen this issue crop up more and more frequently (or maybe because I'm just watching more HDR content), but it looks bad.

It got me wondering whether or not bits and pieces of movies these days are outsourced to different units for grading/editing which would explain no real frame of reference and lack of consistency.

Itunes ATMOS isn't working on the TVOS beta yet but it should be coming soon. If you have these titles ported via Movies Anywhere to Vudu, then you should be able to play them with ATMOS via the ATV TVOS beta in VUDU

The Mission Impossible movies are Paramount so they are not part of Movies Anywhere. It appears like it's only DD+ on Vudu anyway. The discs are Dolby TrueHD and not Atmos as well.

According to BR dot com, Rogue Nation has Atmos on the disk (hopefully in VUDU as well, the UHD version isn't up yet there).
