Glad you thought it looked better than I did but "... truly massive improvement..."? I guess I don't remember what the blu-ray looked like then? I'm going to watch the 2nd one tonight and I'm hoping it looks better than the first? Someone posted here the the third one is good so hoping they get better and better with each movie.

Thanks for the heads up. I added it to my ever growing Netflix List.

It's constantly over 100 titles now and I keep adding more and more to watch.

^^^^^ @aaronwt , no (they are not MA), but the code should work for both services (iTunes and UV; UV includes VUDU and FN I believe? The list also says UHD in FN)

If the trailer is any indication according to my Samsung’s Netflix app’s Info screen in the upper left corner it is streaming at 2160 (see thumbnail below).

Many times the Netflix trailers are only 1080p even when the actual movies are UHD so hopefully a good sign it appears in HDR10, DV.!

Noob question here. I bought the 4k discs of Dunkirk, BR 2049 and the Dark Knight Trilogy. I have to go to wb.com/redeem to codes for those movies than I can watch on Vudu correct? I have an LG 55B7A that has a built in Vudu app. I see that all of those movies are in Dolby Vision on Vudu. By watching those movies there, it downloads them to my Vudu account and I can now watch them in DV which my Xbox One S can't do? So they will look better than my disc copy and I will have no use for my 4K disc anymore other than selling or letting someone borrow it? The trailers are only in SD.

No, the disc is better because it has higher bitrates and is sharper and the IMAX aspect ratios are retained. Vudu doesn’t always have the changing aspect ratios for IMAX scenes. Your B7 TV can analyze each scene and adjust contrast on the fly if you set dynamic contrast to low when watching HDr10 content. It actually works pretty well, I have the same tv.

Yes I know I recognize you from the B7a forums. You've helped me out many times. I was under the impression that DV is better than HDR 10 since all Netflix content is in DV. I guess I'd have to research if the IMAX scenes translate well.

In general I feel that Dolby vision is superior but the physical disc always looks and sounds better to my eyes and ears even if the disc is only hdr10. Sometimes it’s hard to see differences but mostly it’s in the sharpness and fine details like shadows and near black detail. I find the disc to have fewer artifacts compared to streaming. Again even when the disc is only hdr10.

As it pertains to the movies you mentioned. The IMAX scenes on the disc are pretty impressive. If you lose those when you stream, which is often the case, then it would be a vastly inferior experience in my opinion.

I wouldn't be streaming though correct? It's just a digital copy. I can download it I thought. I could download it on my computer and then hook it up to my TV and watch it in DV no? Can't I download it on any device I want?

Just watched the second one (Mission Impossible II) and I thought the video was tons better than the first. Don't know how there could be such a dramatic difference in video quality between the first and second with only a 4 year difference in release dates? I guess this one may go back to the quality of the original transfer?

Okay so then I could download it in itunes, hook it up to my TV and then watch it in DV correct? Also, why doesn't Vudu show a preview/trailer of the movie in DV? If I am thinking about buying a movie, I would want to see it looking and sounding the best it can. Do people just buy DV blindly hoping the transfer is good?

Not correct.

As @galonzo mentioned, if you download it to a PC it is only available in HD which means SDR even if you own a PC with a 4K video card that supports HDR hooked up to a compatible TV.

However according to iTunes exceptions may exist if you own an iOS device that supports HDR such as the iPhone 8 and newer, iPad Pro (2017).

From the iTunes support site:

You can download a local copy of an HD movie to your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC, and you might be able to download HDR and Dolby Vision versions to your iOS devices, but you can't download a 4K version.

I guess this question would better be answered by VUDU but generally speaking all streaming services only provide trailers in 1080p or, at best, 4K... but none of the studios that I am aware of are releasing trailers in 4K HDR yet.

Some do while others rely on threads like this and other review sites before buying 4K HDR content.

Anyone buy or rent Death Wish 2018 on iTunes that don’t have DV? It’s not available on UHD disc so I’m thinking of renting? How is PQ?

Sony 55 A9F
Panasonic DP-UB820
Sony UBP-X700
Samsung HW-K950 Dolby Atmos sound bar

About 30 minutes in, it's still boring as hell...not much to speak of in terms of the DV HDR. Watching through Vudu.
Ha! You listened to the wrong guy mate. This movie sucks and I saw it in Dolby Cinema, there was nothing 4K, DV about it. Colors were bland, no HDR and so on. And the ending was even worse. Rent it at best to see how such an amazing concept was ruined. I will say the sound was awesome.

Best,

Everything is a personal taste, I get it, but this is a horror suspense thriller, what did you guys expect? World War Z? It's called "A Quiet Place"! The Atmos sound and bass are awesome, the PQ on my setup was great. Great lighting and shadows. I'm sure the technical aspects will be even better on disc. It seems most critics and viewers disagree with you, but every movie isn't for everyone. To me this was a top notch and original horror movie. Sorry it wasn't a Transformers movie or Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer.

Its amazing how you were able to
connected and lump together my extremly broad opinions about the movie to WWZ, Transformers, and Abraham Lincoln VS. Random too as these movies dont have anything in common either. Wild imagination I must say, no wonder you liked the movie 😄 You want a similar concept movie thats engaging... try Dont Breath.

Right, I did, because you didn't even explain why the movie isn't good. Please explain in detail. Ok, so it didn't look great in the theater you saw it in, so I guess it's a technical fsilure of the film itself, right? The concept was ruined, because you didn't like it, right? Tell me why, IYO (with spoiler tags of course). And by the way, I liked "Don't Breathe" also, should I not have recommended that to you if you hadn't seen it? 🤫
