Thanks. I’m ready for three weeks of normal before the second replacement. I treated myself to ceiling speakers for all my troubles. Should be 5.1.2 next week.

Where did you get the 4K version? I checked Amazon UK and mine won't arrive for 2 weeks (along with Shutter Island 4k).
Thanks.

Arrow Solo UHD Blu

I was also finally able to watch Solo on UHD Blu, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

It has a very muted palette, but the resolution is definitely there for this 4K DI transfer; my teenage son actually looked up from his phone at one point and commented, "wow, that looks so clear" (mind you, we've watched quite a few UHD BR disks in the exact same setting; he was lost in the film from then on ). No grain, seamless CGI, but again, besides the not-so-colorful palette, and not very many specular highlights, the HDR was decent enough (especially in the darker scenes).

I'm glad I picked this one up, and regret missing it in a Dolby Cinema for the cinema-flavor of Atmos (if it was even played in them).

Do we know if Disney's service will support HDR?

Btw, just watched Fallen Kingdom tonight. Hollywood (and Nolan in particular), take note: This is how you do black levels and shadows. I wish more movies would take better advantage of what HDR can do for shadows. The highlights weren't anything special, but I'll take okay highlights and great shadows over great highlights and crap shadows any day. While I probably wouldn't call it A+ reference because of the lacking highlights, I'd still say maybe A- Reference.

Yeah I’ve always said that the biggest benefit I notice with hdr is the increased detail in the shadows. Low light detail is insane in the best examples. Highlights are nice but I don’t really care if a movie is like staring into the sun lol

Not if they are smart. There is a reason Netflix cancelled it. It was easily the worst of the MArvel shows on Netflix.

I know I've been in no rush to trudge through the second season of Iron fist. But I'm guessing I'll need to watch it before the 3rd season of Daredevil. Or can I jsut skip Iron Fist and go straight to Daredevil? Either way though I guess it will be nice to watch it in Dolby Vision.

I watched the Skyscraper UHD BD rental Friday night. And the Dolby Vision presentation was noticeably better than the HDR10 presentation. I've checked out many scenes from other DV discs and didn't notice as much of a difference between the two. But I think Skyscraper is also the first disc I've watched in DV in it's entirety. Since I got a DV capable Tv a few weeks ago.

Just watched Ant-man 2. What a trip! My kids and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The picture was crisp and bright with nice usage of HDR. The audio was decent, but still Disneyfied. A fun movie.

As for Iron Fist. I'm a contrarian. NF should have given it one more season. The way S2 ended was the best part of the series. And that's the storyline I want to see. Sadly, it's been sent to the Quantum Realm.

I'm watching this one tonight in 4k HDR so I'm getting excited about it. I guessed the video quality would be good because the first Ant Man is easily in the top 5 of the best 3D discs I have.

Depends On the app you’re using. I had to go to the “Originals” section then in the top row it shows the shows offered in UHD and it was there. It was not in the usual place (green square) UHD section.

For the rumor mill, this Android Police article uncovered some code which makes it look like Google Play will give some free upgrades to 4k like iTunes does. Unknown if it will be only movies purchased from Play, or movies redeemed from Movies Anywhere as well.

Thanks for this. Crazy.

I knew there have always been issues with finding 4K in the apps, but I had no idea that most of the last slew of UHD content, other than Jack Ryan, was totally missing from the app. Bunch of stuff here I assumed just wasn't in UHD. Finally suspected something was up when I couldn't find the Man In The High Castle in UHD. Had no idea how much was "missing."

In the scheme of things, it's obviously not a big deal. But the continued burying of UHD content in the Prime apps is one of the most perplexing things going, considering how long it's been going on. How can their apps be this bad for years? I'd really love to understand how a company that has been so on top of so many things can fail so miserably in this area. It's not like it's some fringe service, they're spending untold millions on content, and then it's basically invisible to anyone but the most dogged investigators.

Just bizarre.

Nice! I think a few White Russians are in order to honor his Dudeness. You make a mean Caucasian, Jackie.

Curious to hear anyone's opinion of the picture quality on this one. I thought it wasn't great. I was kind of expecting it to really shine with a lot of dark scenes, etc, but I just wasn't that impressed.

But I also just got a new TV, so I'm still kind of feeling out what is the content and what is the limitations/settings of the TV. So did anyone find the picture quality on this thrilling, and I should be fiddling around with my TV settings?
