Hi guys - as I remember, one of our fellow AVS members works for Hollywood doing studio Atmos mixes and sometimes posts in this thread. Anyone recall his AVS user name? Thanks!

Deadpool 2 re-release

Christmas PG-13 version is being re-released in theaters in December with profits and portions going to Charity. I believe the Fudge Cancer foundation (name changed for the holidays). Curios if this will get a disc release (with 4k hdr would look nice). There is apparently newly shot footage and also deleted scenes added in.

Ryan Reynolds had 2 requests to do this :

1. Profits go to charity.

2. He gets to kidnap Fred Savage.

Just throwing my hat in to state how bloody amazing Jack Ryan looks on Amazon. Watched it through my ATV4K and it looks sharp AF on my C865" (the 8 series tone mapping prob helps a bunch). Even though it only came through as regular HDR10, every scene still popped with amazing luminance and the colours were on point the whole time. Great show in of itself as well. One of the best 4K HDR streaming shows I've seen to date, right up there wih Altered Carbon in DV.

Does anyone have any insight about this? Amazon has it for pre-order for 35 bucks but that's way more than the $16 that I had it pre-ordered for.

I got the same thing. I called customer service and they said that I would be able to get it for the same price I had for the preorder. Although my preorder was $22. They supposedly made a note on my account. Currently the new 2001 listing is not available to order yet. It just says it's coming soon. But once it can be ordered I need to contact best buy customer service again to get it for the price I had.

Because it has to do with cost and viewership. A show like iron fist is very expensive. Like all the marvel shows. So it needs lots of viewers to be worth it. While other shows might not cost much, so they could have a lower viewer tbreshold.

Glad you liked it, BUT, I'm pretty shocked you would watch it that way, because you have a very big dolby vision avatar. If you watch using the C8's internal Amazon, you will get it in Dolby Vision. Why downgrade your picture quality needlessly by using an external device, when you can get the premium picture and sound quality (Atmos) with the built-in app? The only reason I can think of that makes sense is that you didn't realise it was in dolby vision in the built-in app. So, HTH, and please try it using the built-in Amazon app on the TV, make sure you select it from the "UHD" section and it says "UHD" at the end of the title to be sure it's not the 1080p SDR version. Then see if you like that even more

You're right, I didn't realise I could watch it on the TV, or more specifically I'm not sure I am able to. I'm in Australia, and I have access to the Amazon US video content (which has all the good stuff) via various Smart DNS trickery that I am not sure works with the TV apps (I honestly haven't tried it, so it might). Also even if I can, getting the audio out into my HT setup will be tricky (I mainly use my Sony MDRHW700D Headphones via a HDFury Vertex). So getting surround audio from the TV might be an issue (possibly optical would be the only way to go, but I'm not sure that supports at least 5.1 output).

But yes, your point stands, I will give it a go and see how it is with DV!

Not sure if relevant but I did a comparison of the UHD 4k of Pacific rim uprising and the Apple TV 4k. UHD picture was much improved, far sharper and more detailed. Also watched the dark crystal on UHD, amazed at that picture. Nicely surprised as the labyrinth UHD is so mediocre

Decided to finally watch Hot Summer Nights 4k HDR on Amazon through the apple tv since it was now a free prime movie. 15 minutes in and I couldn't help but notice the picture seemed kinda soft and smeared. Something I've noticed on Amazon often. This movie does have a 4k DI according to the DCP. Decided to buy it on iTunes since it's on sale for $5. The difference in quality, as expected, was much better through iTunes via the Apple tv. The smeared look was gone and the picture was sharper and with much better texture giving the image a cleaner look with better depth and more realism.

Not sure if it's because Amazon is applying filtering or DNR or maybe just a poor bit rate.

How is Pacific Rim Uprising’s 4K HDR transfer? The film is meh, I watched it on cable but visually it’s impressive. I imagine with HDR it’s perhaps demo worthy?

Vudu has added more Fox titles in UHD, the following popped up in my account (originally 4k redeem in iTunes into MoviesAnywhere).

Predators
Life of Pi
X2
Rise of the Planet of the Apes

It's really bizarre when they only get one movie out of a whole series. I can only assume more are coming.

Just watched Outlaw King on Netflix. Thought it had very good HDR. Not much in terms of HDR highlights, but shadows looked phenomenal, and just a ton of added nuance to midtones and color that really stood out, especially with the fantastic locations in the movie.

For those of you that haven't purchased "Planet Earth II" in UHD, it's only $14.99 on Amazon:

I purchased it and had a $5.00 digital promotion so only paid $10.00. The episodes look absolutely amazing. I know some who paid $10.00 per episode when it first came out.
