It was shown here between Xmas and Near Year on the BBC. It was fantastic.

I wonder if it'll be 4k or HDR, it wasn't either of those on the BBC.

I think folks are going to like the look of Velvet Buzzsaw. I enjoyed the movie and see it as an almost modern take on
Spoiler!
I can see this easily being not someone’s “cup of tea” however.

Finished the 1st Episode and it was indeed Ultra HD and in HDR. The show is dark but some good highlights here and there. Got some crazy color though... like a little too much at some places but im not complaining. It does seem a bit bit-rate starved? Saw bunch of jaggies and banding in dark scenes. Like that there's no grain however. Good image overall and good show too, definitely has the remenance of Benedict's Sherlock, which is what I was looking for.

Watched Velvet Buzzsaw last night. Took me a bit to get into, but then I found myself enjoying the ride. It's a visually good looking movie and the DV is nice. Just a heads up, don't watch the trailer. It gives way too much away. Go in blind and have fun.

Whoops... I just watched the trailer. It looks interesting. I added it to my ever growing 100+ title Netflix list.

Right now though, I think I'll try watching the Hunter Killer UHD BD rental I have.

ABC murders looks pretty great in HDR. Nice bright highlights, really sharp image. I want to say this is reference quality stuff, but as I watched it on my 930d (not the best local dimming in HDR), I couldn't judge the black levels very much, but highlights, resolution and color all looked great. Similar image to what I saw in the Doctor Who: Twice Upon a Time 4K Blu-ray as well. Both being BBC shows, I may consider buying Sherlock S1 in 4K now.

Show is a little slow, but pretty interesting.

Yes, Velvet Buzzsaw. Really weird, really creative, great characters. And I thought the Maltese Falcon was dangerous art.

Watched about half of Hunter Killer last night and quality is indeed "killer" on both audio and video front. New fancy logo of Lionsgate shined like a star and from there on the pq was amazing throughout. Very sharp, colorful, no banding in the water scenes etc. Audio and the bass was engulfing. Enjoyed the movie so far... big fan of gerard butler since 300 days.
BTW 300 in UHD would look and sound epic! Ahh one can dream 🙂

Pacific Rim Uprising is on sale at BB this weekend. How is the PQ and HDR on this? I know its not a great movie. At the Dolby pop up store in Soho NY, there was a short clip w/ Dolby Vision that looked impressive.

Seems like Netflix has heard the complaints of dark HDR, Buzzsaw was another bright, lively presentation like Polar. I thought the film was alright. Definitely different.

For those interested, the first episode of Hanna is streaming now on Amazon. It’s available for 24 hours. Then it disappears until the whole first season premieres sometime next month.

The more I watch Punisher Season 2, the more it seems to be the best Netflix HDR series I've seen... Even though Altered Carbon had more specular highlights, Punisher's highlights seem slightly better - more deliberate and defined if possible. So impressed.

Iron Fist season 2 also looked great, no grain and very good HDR. Altered Carbon looked great, but my only minor complaint would be that the blacks were a tad raised throughout and could have been a little inkier at times. Iron Fist season 2 had better blacks so the HDR really popped at night time more so than Altered Carbon.

If you get a deal on it, it's probably worth it. The PQ was pretty good. Part 1 takes place mostly at night, part 2 is mostly daytime.

Hanna looked pretty great to me, but I always have a hard time judging Amazon HDR10 because if I leave my HDR10 settings the same as every other HDR10 source, every single Amazon show appears to have appallingly bad black levels, this show included. However, the "correct" black level setting is also difficult to find. It seems to be somewhere between 47-49 for my C6, but I can't know for sure whether there's actually a black level issue with the app or whether these shows are just all poorly graded in the black levels. Other native apps look fine with my normal HDR10 settings, and non-original HDR content on Amazon also appears to look correct at normal settings as well. It's just something funky with their originals. I'm guessing there may be a decoding/encoding issue in their pipeline somewhere, but I can't say for sure. Does anybody else notice an issue with black levels on Amazon's originals? Jack Ryan looked fine but that was Dolby Vision, not HDR10. I kind of wish Amazon just did DV for everything because of this.

Anyone have thoughts on PQ for Game of thrones Season 1 in UHD? Read favorable reviews online. Just deciding on where to purchase? I have $25 in BB points. But amazon has it for about $13 cheaper, and maybe I use my points on other UHD’s?

Netflix released a teaser trailer for Our Planet. AFAIK, it's the first 4k trailer they've released on their YouTube channel. I haven't yet checked to see if the trailer is 4k and possibly HDR within the Netflix app.

PQ and audio wise its great. No grain, excellent shadow detail, colors are good, image is sharp. You just gotta decide how many times you'll watch the same season to justify the purchase price. In fact, S1 in UHD is what hooked me to the series as I hadnt ever watched GOT before that. Now I just finished S7 in hdx of course. Kinda stupid when studios upgrade 1 season or 1 movie in the series and not all.

PS, whoever was wondering about Expanse S3, Amazon add said all three seasons are dropping within one week. Didnt say in 4K and HDR would be far fetched. But one can hope!

I’ve gone through the series twice already and certain episodes 4-5 times. It’s has mileage!

Some interesting stuff here from Chris. Apparently Amazon has quietly throttled their 4k content. Side effects include banding etc. Amazon 4k always looks soft and the texture is usually not the best so this may explain why.

I don't have an external source for Amazon unfortunately so I can't test that.

Sony has officially set the original Karate Kid for April 16th 4k BD release.

Also, they will be showing it in theaters March 31st and April 2nd, using the new 4k Scan. They will also be showing an exclusive sneak peak of Cobra Kai Season 2 at those showings.
