Bought the uhd digital of Live Die Repeat EOT on vudu for sh*ts and giggles bc it was cheap. I already own the blu ray, but wanted to see how it looked with hdr.
Overall, not impressed.
Looked pretty much like the blu ray and this was viewed on my calibrated 900e.
At least it was cheap lol

Both Oblivion and Edge of Tomorrow need to be regraded and released again properly. They both have termendous potential to be demo material but so far have been wasted opportunities. Edge of tomorrow would have an insane Atmos track too with all the action.

Just today I watched the first episode of "Our Planet" and I thought the video quality was excellent. The Atmos audio, however, was weird to say the least. Attenborough's voice kept going from center to height channels in mid-sentence. I will probably be watching the rest of the series on a Netflix device that doesn't support Atmos.

Watched Winter Soldier last night. I forgot how much fun this movie is. The Cap movies have always been some of my favs in the MCU. It looked pretty good. The HDR is subtle but still adds nicely to the overall feel of the pic. I can't remember if the BD had the Disney neutered audio or not. But the audio on this was pretty good. When the helicarriers came to life my house was shaking. And shaking is good.

Those in the UK got a treat yesterday when Star Trek Discovery finale aired on NetFlix. Was able to catch this and it was HDR eye candy galore. It’s a real shame CBS doesn’t offer this show in HDR somewhere in the US/NA as this is a show that greatly benefits from it.

Or you could just flip your AVR's sound mode to Stereo. I'd want to keep watching it in Dolby Vision.

I think most people were expecting a terrible movie based on the reviews, so they find it more enjoyable when they go into it with low expectations.

I originally watched Marvelous Miss Maisel season 2 on a TCL 6 series. I recently upgraded to a LG 65” C9 and good grief, it looked marvelous (pun intended!). : P I ended up rewatching a few episodes over again.
There’s some impressive HDR and wide color gamut.

Would you say the C9 completely destroyed the TCL 6S in terms of HDR as TCL gets petty good reviews in that department.

For the money you can’t beat TCL. The 2017 6 series covers around 90%+ of P3.

OLED tech is in another league. After years of dismissing the tech due to burn in concerns I’m now converted. The C9 is close to if not 100% P3. Also The C9’s specular highlights appear 2x bright due to its dynamic tone mapping.

Seems like Universal are getting into both formats but not with any consistency. I do wish all hardware supported 10+ and DV though.

This article has a fanboy feel all over it... he seems pretty pissed and just making things up. He himself says Universal said a title may have "both" formats available and then he says Universal has made it "clear" that both formats wont be possible on a disc. He is assuming way too much and reading between lines just to stir [email protected]/+* up.
And from the latest HDR10+ reviews of those IMAX Enhanced movies, the picture wasn't even any better with HDR10+ pretty much a do about nothing. Hdr10 still rocks on good tvs, its okay if few of those clouds are not clear.

I think you may need to read that middle part again. He said Universal hasn’t promised to put both (as titles could have one, both or none) which is further muddying the waters of physical media.

Exactly, thats what he is saying and is wrong b/c Universal says "Titles may be released with one [format] or the other or "*both*" or perhaps none."
So Universal says they can do both but he says Universal wont do both and is worried what the outcome could be.

He doesn’t need to say discs because the discussion was about physical media to begin with. I read the paragraph more than once trying to figure out what he’s “making up”, I couldn’t find anything. It seems you’re upset over something that’s nothing.

Not sure how you are missing it.

"What Universal is making “clear” is that it’s embracing HDR10+ as well as, rather than instead of, its existing Dolby Vision support – but it isn’t promising to put both formats on every disc".

False, as Universal says the opposite about the possibility of a movie having both the formats.

They do say "Titles may be released with one [format] or the other or both"

But they aren't promising to do so on EVERY disc.

What Planet said...the article said “every disc” it could be one, both, or none. Which lead to the “messy” aspect the article was commenting on. I didn’t miss anything :/

Got a chance to watch Mortal Engines tonight (on VUDU). I particularly thought the highlights and color were great, near reference. Black levels were fantastic, and there was definitely some noticeable HDR benefit to shadow depth and detail as well, although I do think it could have been pushed a little further. Sharpness wise I think there was also room to improve considering it was native 4K, but it still looked more detailed than 2K movies. This is how I would grade the HDR on my ratings curve:

Got my copy of Alien in today and gave it a quick look. This is the best he movie has ever looked period. I know some of you hate grain, so you’ll probably want to stay away from this release. While not heavily pronounced, it is there (more of a fine grain from what I saw). HDR highlights looked well done too. I look forward to watching the entire movie soon.

Don't see Alien as 4k on iTunes, and it's past midnight; does the changeover usually take some time after the release day for physical, or is this the first instance of Disney's no upgrade policy carrying over to Fox?

Watched Alien last night and I dont know what I was expecting from picture quality but this is not it. I thought something was missing so I compared it to the old bluray I have. The image is probably a hair sharper but otherwise it was like watching the movie is SDR. Colors seemed the same but a bit darker for better contrast. Reminded me the early HDR conversions where ppl complained the image was darker and not brighter in HDR. Grain is there which is correct. But there's not more to see in shadows or anything, also purposeful. I guess I was too hyped up about it and expected to be blown away but could have just rewatched it on my bluray copy and it would have been just the same. Audio was regular 5.1 track so kinda disappointed there too.
Only positive I can think of is they stuck to the director's intent and there's not much change in the pq from previous bluray releases. Hopefully the rest of the series get better upgrades, if they do at all.

It could happen sometimes today, it might take a week. These types of things are never set in stone so all we are ever going by is what was previously done also, this is not Disney it was a Fox title release (before merger).

Saw it pop up in 4k HDR a couple hours ago (in the Canadian store)!
